Thanks Noel, I totally forgot about this.

Question.... my bank told me they would be happy to get euros for me, for a price, but I would do better to just use the ATM when I got off the plane. Are ATM's between the gate, customs and baggage?? If not, will the taxi's take credit cards?

Yes, yes and yes. We exchanged in 2007 down by baggage and I used an ATM outside of baggage.

:cloud9: Aw yes! Thank you Monica... somehow, I think some of us came out on the winning end of that one. :faint:

The day started out dreadful but turned out to be quite productive. Got DS an early birthday present, a mountain bike from a local swap meet, so he can use it this weekend when we go camping. Also picked up a couple of items he needed for football. Once we got home we watched Dead Man's Chest to get in the mood and do some costume research. While watching the movie, I did some online shopping and found him a complete tux for $46, found my shoes to go with my formal gowns, got a great price on another pair of shoes I had been wishing for, and got a new rolling duffel bag to replace one that had a hole courtesy of TSA. In total, I'm only out $190. Love those kind of shopping days.

The JC Penneys in Tanforan is pretty good, as good as or better then most Pennys, two floors, has everything but sales staff but that seems to be a problem at most stores now. There is also a Sears at Tanforan which is on par with Penneys. val

Thank you for the info. I would go to Stonestown personally but she figures after her radiation she will gain back some of the weight (and she needs to) so wants some cheap clothes to get her thru. Hopefully we can find something there for her.

Judy

Alas, it is over 18 months and my library isn't on here. Sigh - story of my life - I usually miss the :boat: on a lot of things but it can still work I'm sure.

Tom, you should be ok if you've prepaid DCL but you can always take some out of an ATM at the airport if you want. So don't sweat it if you don't.

:welcome: Judy.

Just an FYI - your friends are right - you will never look upon another cruiseline the same ever. And you will fit right in. Just a curiousity, how'd you fine the DIS? Most newbies don't find out about the DIS till after their first cruise - so your ahead of the learning curve. :thumbsup2

And young and/or young at heart is essential to having the best trip ever. Make sure when you go to dinner the first time that you tell your server when Shanna's birthday is. She'll get a nice surprise. :cake:

I learned about it from the Passporter website. I'm a researcher when it comes to doing anything. Sometimes I drive my DH crazy with tidbits of info. He keeps telling me I have too much time on my hands. He's probably right but I won't admit it.

One of the other friends travelling with us has been many times and has arranged for a cake for me on the second night out and a cake for Shanna on her birthday. I will be on the walking track everyday! That's deck 4, right?

Thanks for the welcome.

Judy

I am on the monrail between epcot and mk for one hour and no air. Ahhhh

Stop whinging, at least your there!!! :goodvibes

Well i am trying to avoid laundry ... i am on holiday beside i am away for a month so need a little more clothing ..
Jason, I too am trying to avoid washing, well, I'm always trying to avoid laundry, anyhoo, I was thinking instead of taking more clothes, how about wearing less? Hmmmmm, could be scary! :lmao:

OK, I am not normally one to make lists, but I realized that I needed to break down what is left to do into bite-size chunks or it simply won't get done. So here is my list:
Corinna, your list is amazing, whoa! I am impressed and may have to steal some of your organisational skills. :)

All commitments at work that is between Sept 3 and October 10th. I think my crewmate at work is going to be happy when I leave. He won't hear me saying "XXX days and XXX hours to go" anymore. :cool1:

You nearly had me! :surfweb::scared1::laughing:

Hi, I new to the DIS forums and forums in general. Also a late comer to the cruise. Is it possible to join in for the pre cruise meet at the Hard Rock. It sounds like so much fun and a great way to meet fellow cruisers. Thank you

Jump in, the water is warm! :welcome:

I AM ALIVE!!! WDW was not crowded today, but the monorail ride was from hell. We stopped between The Contemporary and the MK Park for one hour with no air!! They kept saying that the monorail in front of us had mechanical problems, but I am going to try googling and see if that is the truth or they had a medical emergency or something. It was unbelievable. If I was there for one day, I would have been upset. We got on the Monorail at 2:00 and did not make it back to Epcot till almost 3:30! It was exhausting and in the 90's today. Also, The Land was down, not working, Test Track fast pass line was not working and something else was down, but cannot think of it. I told the CM by the Land that every ride seems to have some kind of malfunction today. He said he has heard that quite a bit. Anyway, after the torrential rain, and the fabulous dinner in Mexico, we are now home. We had a fab time, but never made it to the MK.

Hope everyone is well and will catch up tomorrow. I had to write to all my dis friends on the boards thinking I might not make it out alive. By the way, the monorail was standing room only and no water!!!! Okay, I am done venting!

OK, that doesn't sound fun at all, at least you had a good dinner to end the day. MK isn't going anywhere, your so close you can pop over another time, lucky thing!

newhaircut.jpg

I am still getting used to it...but I like it and it's going to be a lot easier to take care of I'm sure!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
Love it!!! :goodvibes
DH hair is just as curly as yours, but being a typical blokey bloke, he has no idea how to handle it and it's usually a big frizzy mess, hence I make him keep it short! :thumbsup2

Somebody asked about a ATM on Barcelona airport. So far i now there's on every airport in the world a ATM before you leave the building.

Connie

Jason, I too am trying to avoid washing, well, I'm always trying to avoid laundry, anyhoo, I was thinking instead of taking more clothes, how about wearing less? Hmmmmm, could be scary! :lmao:

Wearing less... hmmm... string bikini's sure would take up less space in the luggage! :rotfl2:

I was wandering around Napier today at lunchtime and went into the SPCA charity shop and was totally gobsmacked to find a massive pile of Disney soundtrack CDs for $2.50 each! I've come home with a whole bunch of them which I was missing from my collection.

I'd recently given Mum all my ones to listen to so was able to call her to see which ones were missing from the collection.

I got -
The Incredibles
101 Dalmations
The Sherman Brothers
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Dinosaur
Home on the Range
The Happiest Millionaire
Oliver and Company
The Rescuers Down Under
Pete's Dragon
and also Lilo & Stitch and Tarzan which I've already got but these are really cool moving cover images

I don't think the have ever been played. The shop assistant said a lady dropped off a huge pile of them last week and many had already sold. I left a big stack behind of ones I'd already got. I'm guessing we are probably less one Disney fan in the world as I imagine it was a deceased estate.

What a wonderful picture to wake up to this morning :love: .... thanks Monica :thumbsup2

We have made a fair bit of progress in getting ready for the trip over the past couple days.
Secret Mickey gifts.....check
Candy Exchange.........check
Euros........................check
Pounds.....................check
Stateroom host gift.....check
Started to pack..........check

Then we slowed down a little. Got a call from my dad telling me my aunt passed away last night. It was something we knew was coming, she is now at peace.:littleangel:

Jon

Well done on your cruise prep but sorry to hear about your Aunt

He's cold is better, he is a bit anxious today as the eye surgery is tomorrow.

Wishing Dennis all the best for his eye surgery ..... we will be thinking about you both today and sending over tons of pixie dust :hug::hug:

Friends vs aquaintances....friends are precious and are in our lives forever, aquaintances are wonderful people that come into our lives for a time, give us great joy and then move out of our lives. Both are to be valued. :goodvibes

It is of course personnal as to which one would skip, but we usually try to book Palo on Master Chef night, just because that is our least favorite of the menus.....not to say it is not good!

What a lovely way of putting it Angie. After perusing the menus my least favourite is the Masterchef so I may try to swap my Palo to that night. I was going to swap it to the Lumieres rotational night but the menu for that one seems different than last time and there is something I can eat on it now.

I always use Travelex from the UK and pick it up in the airport on the way. They give the best rate in the UK unless you are preordering through one of those "buy money now for December" type companies!

I have ordered my $$ dollars to pick up at Travelex at the airport. Have ordered euros through Crown Currency as I have never used them before and just wanted to see if they were any good. They should arrive first week of September. The rate was marginally better for both with Crown Currency but I thought I would hedge my bets in case they don't arrive.

It's GROSS here today, too... :sad2:

I couldn't face going anywhere - just huddled indoors and had smoked salmon for brunch with a couple of Pamplemosas!!!
10.gif
That's what I call 'em anyway - pink Prosecco & grapefruit juice... ;)

That drink sounds delicious ... I love grapefruit juice :thumbsup2

Oh....and I now have a full length formal dress Marilyn & Kaz, after trying on some of my dresses from our honeymoon!!!:cool1::cool1: I'm so pleased they fit again!!!:woohoo::woohoo:

Wonderful news about the dress Mandy. It must be a wonderful feeling and you so deserve it after your hard work and perseverence

I am going to kick my diet up a notch for the last 2 weeks as I wasn't happy with how I looked in the dress I wore for the wedding yesterday. There was also a problem with the "magic knickers" I ordered from the internet as they seemed to come up to my neck which wasn't quite the look I was hoping for. I will be starting Slimfast on 1st September for sure .... and hopefully exercising a bit more as I have really let it slide of late!

Good Morning from California. Hi, I'm Judy from the San Francisco Bay area and this is my first, but I don't think last, Disney cruise.
Judy

Hi Judy and :welcome: aboard this wonderful cruise. We are Sarah and Tony from Wales and we are cruising for the 2nd time on DCL. Look forward to meeting you.

TIDBIT: : DD's BF works for LAX baggage carrier. He was telling me some DO and DON'Ts of luggage and how to "avoid" getting your stuff um....say we say, damaged? Anyway, luggage handlers :furious: duffel bags and poor packing. (I know they work so well too). Reason is that most people will pack them right but when they get moved from point A (desk) to point B (back) - things shift and weights and formations go out the window. They will shift and get back-end heavy and they throw off loads. Thus, many of them will get "extra attention" NOT OF THE GOOD KIND. If a loader is having a bad day, they will pay extra attention to those bags and sometimes they come home with damage. Same thing with bags labeled "FRAGILE" - per his words - that's just an invite to toss them extra high. :scared1:

I don't want to scare anyone but this from the mouth of babes - the boy can't lie. So, while they might be convenient for us - don't pack anything of value, glass or souvenirs you don't want broken. He also said that while most of the workers don't deliberately do anything, there's always a few in the crowd that do make a game of it. I can attest to the fact that while sitting on the runway in Barcelona, we saw a small pink suitcase fall off and sit in the runway while the entire crate got loaded. Then loader got onto cab started to drive away, noticed the case, stopped, got off and literally threw it HIGH into the air and bounced onto the loading belt. Um, yeah, it had a few new black marks and I hope nothing got broken. Don't want to scare anyone just wanted to give you all a head's up. I was looking at a nice one in Ross today and he stopped me with that bit of info. :scared1::sad2:

I learned about it from the Passporter website. I'm a researcher when it comes to doing anything. Sometimes I drive my DH crazy with tidbits of info. He keeps telling me I have too much time on my hands. He's probably right but I won't admit it.

Judy

How cool is that! You'd of fit right in with this group.:lmao::rotfl2:

We tend to "plan" a bit ourselves. :rotfl:

:welcome: and hope we get to meet onboard. BTW, I'm Laura and DH-Steve and DD - April. I, however, will be traveling on the back to back with a few of the other cruisers so I won't get to meet you in at the HRC if you go - but catch my cruise buddy - Pam AKA DisneySweetie. She's a sweetheart and a great person to know.

3 days and counting.

OH YEAH! I got flights. I'm officially checking out on Wednesday, 10:45 am. Y'all have to catch up on FB as I'm not sure I can load onto the DIS if the past has been any indication.

Now, off to start packing. I didn't do anything this weekend.

Hi Everyone,
well in the past couple of days we have returned to Dubai, adjusted six hours difference in time zones, finished making our fish extender and last and by no means least managed to catch up on all of these posts. (actually i was surprised we weren't already on part 10 :rotfl2:)

I did try to do a massive multi quote on all the exciting things i've read.... but it didn't work :(

to sum up at least some of the things i wanted to say:

THANK YOU for the Navigator!!! :thumbsup2 It is brilliant!!! :worship: and we really love being able to download it on to our ipads! :jumping1::jumping1:

Hayley - sorry we didn't make it up to QLD this time, i would of loved to have a mini DIS meet.

Eric: love the new hair.

Corinna: love your list. i think i should write one of my own.

Sue: Happy Birthday.

I agree that it is a bit nerve wracking to meet everyone in person - but it is also super exciting at the same time!

See you all really really soon!

I just read on the main board that Brent isn't on the Magic right now. He's apparently taking some time off. Will be back for a short while in December and then on the Dream for a couple of months before becoming DCL Entertainment Director in Celebration. :sad2::sad:

:cutie:

Oh I hope this isn't quite correct. I also hope we don't have Peter as CD!

Congrats on the Pirate, and THANK YOU for the pic!!!:thumbsup2:love::love::love:

Monica - congrats on the pirate - couldn't have picked a better one myself! :lmao:

.Then we slowed down a little. Got a call from my dad telling me my aunt passed away last night. It was something we knew was coming, she is now at peace.:littleangel:

Jon

So sorry to hear about your loss. Even when you know it's coming and it's a blessing, it's still never easy. :grouphug:

Happy Birthday to Sue xxxxx

Hope you have a lovely day today !

:cake:party::cake:party:

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Yeah - Happy Birthday Sue!!!!!:banana::banana:

So today was totally wasted by a stomach bug that I picked up somewhere. Yesterday I was feeling funny but I thought it was the new injectable medicine I just started. I worked at the Disney Store last night and I felt pretty bad the entire night. When I finally got home, I started to feel really sick and sadly I didn't really sleep much at all last night. I sent my poor husband away for the day so he doesn't catch it too. I hate, hate, HATE being sick.

Although I felt sick all day, I found out some news that truly made me sicker. My sister called me this morning and told me that a mother of one of her former student's passed away on Thursday. She was only 33 and had three children, one who is only 2. My sister was really torn up about it. A couple of hours later, I was going through my Facebook and I saw my one friend hadn't posted anything for a while so I went to her page. I started reading her wall and people were posting about "missing her" and that they "would see her in heaven". Here my friend who is just days younger than me passed away in April. I went to college with her and she was the kindest person who cared about everyone. She suffered from anorexia for years and sadly I think it was her heart that gave out, though I don't know for sure. It makes me sad to think that Nikki isn't here anymore. She always loved ladybugs so whenever I see a ladybug from now on, I'll think of her.

I hoping to get some cruise related things down tomorrow. I'll have to see how I feel...I'm finally hungry again but I'm eating very carefully because I don't want a repeat performance of last night.

I hope everyone is doing well! :)

Happy your feeling better, Sad about your losses.

Well it serves you right for having a lovely weekend on you boat, you should have been working like me!!

Work? What's that? :dance3:

I ran around shopping all day. Found my tiara. Bought more magnetic paper. Did the laundry and found that I have more than enough mentionables to last the 18 days without having to do laundry.:laundy: Now I just need to squeeze them into one suitcase, as my second suitcase is completely taken over with f.e. gifts. ;);) Found my final f.e gifts, got the cards to do my tags.

Sounds like your nearly organised, feels good huh? :goodvibes

Nope, we just hang around here Hayley and chat about nothing much until you come back......
I thought that was the case! :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

Good Morning from California. Hi, I'm Judy from the San Francisco Bay area and this is my first, but I don't think last, Disney cruise. My birthday was a week ago and I turned 60. My DH gave me this cruise as a birthday present and I will be traveling with four friends, 3 cabins. We are meeting up in Barcelona from different places in the US. My cabin mate, Shanna, will be celebrating her 37th birthday on Sept 28th so this is a special cruise for both of us. Shanna is one of my best friends so you might can tell that I am young at heart even if the old body doesn't think so! We have both cruised, separately, on different cruise lines but neither of us have been on a Disney cruise. The other three in our group have and love it! They said we would never go on another cruise line after this trip. I am a Disney freak and have been to DL so many times I don't think I can count but never to WDW, so will make it happen at the end of this cruise. Thank you all again for the info and the welcome. I looking forward to meeting you.

Judy

:welcome: What a fantastic birthday gift, Happy Birthday! We are also embarking on our first Disney cruise, actually first cruise ever, very excited!

Nope, I have no life outside the DIS!!
Oh, I know you have a wonderful life, with your great camper van and beautiful surroundings!
Please let us know how DrHug goes, sending lots of pixie dust his way. :wizard:

We had our spa day today and it was amazing. We both had booked a neck, back and shoulder massage, but this morning I was given the option to have a facial, shoulder massage and scalp massage instead and I went for this option. We then had a couple of hours to use the gym and pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room, before I had my second treatment, which was the Ginger and Lime Salt Glow. It was absolutely divine. I also found out that they do a hot stone massage after all (it was removed from the price list about 6 months ago) and I booked myself in for this on September 10th. Looks like Captain Mickey is not getting any of my spa Dollars this time round.

After the last treatment, I met up with Graham again and we had a lovely Japanese meal near the spa. Now I am just catching up with things and I will work on the last two things on my to do list for today shortly. One has already been done.

Corinna

Sounds amazing and so indulgent! Pure bliss, I bet! :cloud9:

I was wondering where you were off too! Hope that this weekend was better than last, and that Holly stayed slear of the bait...

Nope, no fish hooks for lunch this time :lmao:

Then we slowed down a little. Got a call from my dad telling me my aunt passed away last night. It was something we knew was coming, she is now at peace.:littleangel:

Jon

So sorry to hear that Jon. :flower3:

Wearing less... hmmm... string bikini's sure would take up less space in the luggage! :rotfl2:

At least everyone else would lose weight, as no one would have an appetite after seeing me in a string bikini! :lmao:

Hayley - sorry we didn't make it up to QLD this time, i would of loved to have a mini DIS meet.

No worries, see you in a few weeks anyway! :thumbsup2

I am sooo excited for this cruise I cannot tell you - well, I have told you and I know you all are just as excited!:cool1::cool1:

:banana: Your excitement is very infectious!!:banana:

I wouldnt have actually read it because its to long for me to read because im lazy but since you maaaaaddddddeeeee me read it YAY!!!!! thank you mommy. just makes it now truly our birthday tradition besides just the cruise. it truly is a surprise.

Aw, what a lovely mum you have :goodvibes

Apparently my parent's decided to start cleaning out my sister's bedroom today (well, it's my old bedroom because we shared a room up until the time I got married)...so that means there may be some cruise clothing that has been hiding in the closet! I know it's a pain for my sister, but I'm excited to see what they found! LOL!!!

I can't believe we are so close now! It doesn't seem possible!

Just love those magical 'Narnia' wardrobes, don't you? :thumbsup2:cool1:

Then we slowed down a little. Got a call from my dad telling me my aunt passed away last night. It was something we knew was coming, she is now at peace.:littleangel:

Jon

Our condolences to you Jon, and to your family x

Ditto, If you don't like it, don't look, if it's like a car wreck and you just have to look, don't slow down, just keep moving!!!

Absolutely!:thumbsup2

:littleangel:

Nice!!!!!:thumbsup2

I will be starting Slimfast on 1st September for sure .... and hopefully exercising a bit more as I have really let it slide of late!

Thank you for that Sarah, Mark and I are really pleased.....we each lost another 2 lbs this week so fingers crossed we can keep it going!:rolleyes1

Good luck with yours, I know you don't have much to lose so it's always harder

...Not sure I like the sound of knickers up to my neck btw!!!!!:scared1:

OH YEAH! I got flights. I'm officially checking out on Wednesday, 10:45 am. Y'all have to catch up on FB as I'm not sure I can load onto the DIS if the past has been any indication.

Sounds like you've had a busy time! see you soon :dance3:

oh....nearly forgot.......!!!

Happy Birthday Sue! Have a lovely day!!

:littleangel:

So let me get this straight...we are getting in about 8 am in the morning of sail day....we may or may not get a quick tour of Barcelona by DCL transportation....if we board the ship when they allow us to will we be able to leave and explore for a little while or is it when you are on the ship you stay on the ship? I must apologize that we have so many questions--this is our first cruise where we do not get the ship in Port Canaveral.....
Thanks all....
Tom:cool1:

From everything DCL has said, I think yes you can get off once boarded but must be on for 4pm lifeboat drill!
