This is the post from the main board. It says Brent will be returning to the Magic soon. Who knows what that means?

Brent update
Hi everyone -

We just got off the Magic what a wonderful trip it was!!! Brent was missing and he sure was missed. Peter just wasn't the same... Anyway, on our last morning, we got to talking to Yolande and asked her what the true story with Brent was, as we kept getting different stories. We figured if anyone knew the truth it was her!!!! ANYWAY... Brent will be returning to the Magic soon and stay on until Dec and then is off for a bit and then will be on the Dream for some of Jan and all of Feb and is then moving to be head of DCL entertainment in Celebration. It looks like Brent's Cruise Directors days are definitely numbered!!!! I'll for sure miss him, but I think in the end this will be better for him and Yolande to start a family.

I sure hope that most of us stay in touch and perhaps plan a future trip together!!

What currency do they use in Gibraltar? For some reason I thought it was Euros, or US$, but fear I am wrong... I need to make sure we are covered for there... Anyone know about Madeira? I thought I was doing well getting Euros at $1.23 and not fees, and am now afraid I only got part of my job done...

The best answer to your questions I think was found on yahoo answers. With the answer I read, I bought GBP's.

Resolved Question
Gibraltar Pounds/British Pounds?!?!?!?

I just about threw a fit at my bank today. I needed over $1500 exchanged to BRITISH POUNDS and today was the last day. My flight leaves on Thursday. I canceled the order in fear of getting screwed. I heard you can use GPB in Gibraltar, but not vice versa. How right/wrong am I? I can't find a definite answer anywhere. Where can I get a last minute currency exchange?

There is no such currency as the 'Gibraltar Pound', despite what many websites say. There is one currency here, the Pound Sterling.

Also many UK bureau-de-change erroneous claim it is a separate currency, as they attempt to scam up to 10% from people changing Bank of England issued bank notes into Government of Gibraltar issued bank notes. In Gibraltar both Bank of England issued notes and Government of Gibraltar issued notes circulate completely intermixed, and have exactly the same face value as each other - they are denominated in the same currency, the Pound Sterling.

Also, both UK and Gibraltar coin designs circulate completely intermixed (they are the same sizes, just different reverse designs).

Many shops are usually to happy to swap any GoG notes you migth have for BoE isssued ones if you are about to fly back to the UK, etc. But in general usage, they are completely intermixed and trying to keep the separate when getting change would be abnormal.

So if you are trying to get some USD converted, you just want GBP which they will give you in Bank of England issues notes. These will be fine.

GoG issued notes are not legal tender in the UK, but you need to understand this just means people are not legally forced to accept them in the UK, they are however free to do so. But due to lack of familiarity with them, hardly anywhere will. BoE issued notes are fine in Gibraltar, but your change will always come back as a compelete mix.

Hope that helps and is clear.
N.b. I have answered previous questions on this topic in a lot more detail. So if you need more info, try a search.

So 1 week from now vacation will have started and I will be in the air on my way to EWR. Only 5 more days of work (hopefully not long days). :cool1:

I bookmarked the menus. I can't wait to have so many choices every night and to try new foods.

As for the budgeting... I am thinking $500 Euros as I will need them in Barcelona, Malta, Rome and Maderia to pay for my excursions since those are the places I am not using Disney. Been torn if I should get any Pounds for Gibraltar or just get them on the ship or hope for a Barclay's ATM (reciprocal bank with BofA so less fees) when we get off the ship. I am buying the pass online ahead of time so won't need too many.

I need to start packing. I have gotten most of the things I plan to pack in the loft, but I keeping making lists, but really need to start executing them.

Called the bank, credit cards and told them I was going away. Also, called AT&T and got the Intl plan and texting put on my phone to activate on Friday before I leave. Need to email the hotel again and reconfirm my reservation and make sure Kimmy can check in before me.

I am off to the mall (outside the city since the city doesn't have my size - Tanforan) to pick up some last minute things and do a return. So need to get moving as I have to take public transit (don't have a car) since they open at 11am.

Catch you all later tonight!

Hi, since you are going to Tanforan maybe you know....I'm taking my friend into the city for radiation and she wants to go to Penneys. Is the one at Tanforan a good one or should I take her to Pleasanton?

This should make post number ten!!!!!! I'm feeling more like I belong. Thanks everyone! :cheer2:

Hi Everyone!

Does anyone know what time Disney transfers will be from Le Meridien to the port?

It doesn't say in our cruise docs. Anyone want to take a guess?

In 2007 I think it was an 11 am pick-up from the hotel I stayed at.

Judy

I have never been in JCP there. Never had much luck with them. Sorry I can't be more help.

Oh Radar Trap! YEAH!

Hope you feel better soon!

I am feeling much better! I'm almost back to my normal self, but I'm still very wiped out. I spent most of the day relaxing, but I think that was probably the best thing for me.

Good Morning from California. Hi, I'm Judy from the San Francisco Bay area and this is my first, but I don't think last, Disney cruise. My birthday was a week ago and I turned 60. My DH gave me this cruise as a birthday present and I will be traveling with four friends, 3 cabins. We are meeting up in Barcelona from different places in the US. My cabin mate, Shanna, will be celebrating her 37th birthday on Sept 28th so this is a special cruise for both of us. Shanna is one of my best friends so you might can tell that I am young at heart even if the old body doesn't think so! We have both cruised, separately, on different cruise lines but neither of us have been on a Disney cruise. The other three in our group have and love it! They said we would never go on another cruise line after this trip. I am a Disney freak and have been to DL so many times I don't think I can count but never to WDW, so will make it happen at the end of this cruise. Thank you all again for the info and the welcome. I looking forward to meeting you.

Judy

Hi Judy! My name is Amy and I'm traveling with my DH Dave as well as my DMIL MagicMe. This is Dave and my second Disney cruise and first TA voyage. Looking forward to meeting you on board!

Reall sad to hear about all the heartache those poor families must be facing, will be thinking of them (and you) x Hope you soon start to feel better too, these virus things can really hit you sometimes.

It's funny, I was sitting and watching TV tonight and I thought to myself, "I can't believe Nikki is dead"...I guess it's going to take some time for it to become a reality. She wasn't my best friend or even someone I would see or talk to all of the time, but she was the kindest person and she cared for everyone.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was it to get the International plan for your phone? I have AT&T also and I was wondering.

He's cold is better, he is a bit anxious today as the eye surgery is tomorrow. He is reading all about it :surfweb: I tell him too much info! We will be glad to be done with that and then Thursday will finish up with the 2 last root canals. :headache: We should be right as rain by the weekend. We will be camping (RV not really roughing it!) Wed thru Sunday. We will be close by so will drive into town Thursday for the dental appt then take him back out to the camp and put him to bed. Lots of friends joining us by Friday. 7 of us Wed on and another 6 coming in Fri night and a final 2 joining us Sun night. We expect to eat alot - well maybe not Dennis so much with the fresh dental work!! :rotfl2: I did tell him you were asking about him and he was very touched. Can't wait to meet in person! :grouphug:

Best of luck tomorrow, Dennis!

It sure sounds like you have a very busy week!

Apparently my parent's decided to start cleaning out my sister's bedroom today (well, it's my old bedroom because we shared a room up until the time I got married)...so that means there may be some cruise clothing that has been hiding in the closet! I know it's a pain for my sister, but I'm excited to see what they found! LOL!!!

I can't believe we are so close now! It doesn't seem possible!

If you don't mind me asking, how much was it to get the International plan for your phone? I have AT&T also and I was wondering.

I added the World Traveler for $6 which gives you some discounted per minute rates in some countries. If I was just doing the TA I probably would not have added this. I also added Global Messaging 50 for $10. You can read about them here. I was also able to put this on my phone to become active on Friday, 9/3 before I leave, since they prorate the plans for the dates they are active on your phone. Hope this helps.

Judy

The JC Penneys in Tanforan is pretty good, as good as or better then most Pennys, two floors, has everything but sales staff but that seems to be a problem at most stores now. There is also a Sears at Tanforan which is on par with Penneys. val

We are getting close to a pirate... but I am going to bed. Hope everyone has a good week. Not sure how much I will get on before I leave.

With a group this large, I hope to maintain friends after. I would still come on the thread and chat and of course there is always Facebook too. This had been too long of a time chatting to lose touch!!!pirate:

First of all, A huge hug and Thank-you to Sarah and Penny for the navigator. What an awesome tool for a first time cruiser, ie me, it is worth it's weight in gold! :goodvibes

I was at Boscov's the other day and something caught my eye. It was a set of buttons that you can use to extend the waist of your pants. I bought it thinking after 9 days, my clothes might not fit. The best part is that it was only $1.99. What a deal. In case I lose weight,I can also use it to make the waist smaller.
Sounds very handy, I think I need one! Sounds like those belly belts you use when your pregnant, I was considering taking some of my sisters maternity clothes! :lmao:

:rotfl:
Ive got a better idea, order a bottle of dry white, vegi lasagna and steak fries and see how fast I can polish them all off
Remove the wine, add a creme brulee and I'm there!

.adn we want to be at the Universal Parks early the next morning to try to get on all the Harry Potter rides (we have the insane idea of trying to do both Universal Parks and both Sea World Parks in just 2.5 days if we can----and we've pre-paid for the express passes at all the parks and everything). So he called and they agreed to switch us onto a direct flight leaving at 5pm so we'll get in at a better time, be able to check in, get a good night's sleep and be up for a Universal marathon on Friday the 3rd!
Go Boys! I'm impressed! :worship:

I wanted to share this with you guys, it was on the main board, I loved it..

GORGEOUS! :cutie:

I just want to introduce myself. My name is Brenda, and I'm traveling with my husband Brian. We are from Wisconsin. We did the EBTA in 2007, and it was a lot of fun. This time we are looking forward to gaining hours instead of losing them due to the time changes. We love cruising.

I have some medical treatments before this cruise, and my dog is also having surgery on her mouth. Hopefully everything goes well. We are really looking forward to this vacation.

Brenda

:welcome:

I also got good news from my doctor they got the report from pathology and as suspected the cyst was not cancerous. It was the largest cyst that my Dr. and his partner who assisted with the surgery have ever seen and were very surprised I was not having more symptoms. They drained about 2 and a half gallons of fluid from it and it had lots of blood vessels to it and that is why they kept me overnight at the hospital.
Great news! ;)

Gotta run to down the rest of my cappucino and start cleaning up so keep up the charade with my mom that we aren't total slobs in her absence.
:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I really should keep all my bits under wraps too, but have got to the stage where I just think..."oh well, look at something else if you don't like what you see".......:rotfl2: At least, that's what I try and tell myself......
Ditto, If you don't like it, don't look, if it's like a car wreck and you just have to look, don't slow down, just keep moving!!!

Jon, what is the stateroom host gift? thanks val

Laura, if the Sony eReader you have is newer then 18 months, it should be able to use most of the free ePub digital book loans from the Overdrive system, my city's library allows for a 21 day loan.

Alas, it is over 18 months and my library isn't on here. Sigh - story of my life - I usually miss the :boat: on a lot of things but it can still work I'm sure.

OK....question for you guys....we are flying in Saturday morning and being picked up by Disney.....do we need to get euros before we leave or can we just wait til we get on the ship. We are not going to do anything in Barcelona as of right now.....what do you think?
Tom

Tom, you should be ok if you've prepaid DCL but you can always take some out of an ATM at the airport if you want. So don't sweat it if you don't.

:welcome: Judy.

Just an FYI - your friends are right - you will never look upon another cruiseline the same ever. And you will fit right in. Just a curiousity, how'd you fine the DIS? Most newbies don't find out about the DIS till after their first cruise - so your ahead of the learning curve. :thumbsup2

And young and/or young at heart is essential to having the best trip ever. Make sure when you go to dinner the first time that you tell your server when Shanna's birthday is. She'll get a nice surprise. :cake:

I was able to download the Navigator on my ipod in the ibooks as a pdf file!!!
