Hey guys....we booked this cruise in December 2008 and I do not see anything on our reservation about a fuel surcharge....is it worked into the price of the cruise or is it stated as a line item?
Thanks!
Tom

No, those of us who booked on opening day (Oct 2008) or immediatly afterward were charged a fuel supplement. In Dec 2008 DCL dropped the fuel supplement for all reservations made from that time forward. So you probably don't have it.

:cutie:

Our anniversary is July 24th too! :) We celebrate 18 years this year!

Kristi

Hee Hee Hee - lots of July birthday and anniversaries. My son is 7/7, my oldest DD is 7/20, our anniversary is 7/21 and my religious ceremony was 7/22 and my birthday is 7/23. One dear friend who may still show up here has a 7/24 birthday too. Got to love all the celebrations

Kimberly?

You and I were thinking the same thing. 1st class sleepers which is why I yelled for Pam but I was wrong which I only figured out after looking at the link. Thus the  but on the good side, might have come up with another annniversary gift. LOL

Interesting note, I did a good deed and took my sister some lunch.....she works at a Goodwill, while driving there, DH was complaining about having to stop there. I told him, "What are you complaining about, everytime you go with me you find something."

Yup, you guessed it, this time, he found a King Cobra Golf Club and about 75 beanie babies which he SUGGESTED we buy and sanitize as prizes for next year's Relay For Life. We had a Carnival theme this year and my DD who ran the booth for a 2nd time had a "Sorry, Try Again Wheel".....well that wheel made over $750 in one day from all the kids and adults wanting to win stuffed animals. We had over 7 yrs of x-sm to jumbo stuffed animals and prizes which we won from Circus Circus in Las Vegas. Yup - she had a successful year.

Oh, I digress, the reason I posted was that he found a small silver clam-shaped, red velvet-lined jewelry box. He showed it to me twice. The second time I smart commented, "No, I don't like it unless your filling it with something. And since we will be in another continent I think a really nice "piece of candy" [read ring] from Spain might look good in there." His face fell. I think I might have guess a surprise for me. Drats. I tend to do that alot. :sad2: Anyway, he hesitated and said, "Oh I like it anyways, I'm going to get it anyway."

So, I have until July 23, to brianwash him into thinking its his idea. Can I do it? :scratchin - I'm always up for a challenge. ;)

:lmao:

They stopped charging for the fuel supplement on December 1, 2008. It is shown as a separate fee. So only those of us that booked when bookings opened in Oct 2008 and those in Nov 2008 were charged. Some got lucky in having it removed in early Dec and some reshopped early on where it was worth it. More recently they have apparently refunded to those that paid with DVC points.

But I just don't have time to read the past 20 or so pages I have missed. Amanda will have to catch me up. So if this has been posted, here it is again. Target has card games in their ad this week. Scrabble Slam, UNO, Monopoly and Sorry. My mission is to buy all of them this week so we will have them for the cruise. They should be easy to pack and at that price if I loose them, no biggie.
I promise to try to catch up soon but between the new job and school, I just don't have the time.

Well we went shopping today and I had hoped to buy a pair of shorts - instead we found DD a black formal dress with a white border - it looks so good on her and was on sale for $75 - it is floor lengh (we will have to have it hemmed) - it will match my formal dress! our theme is black and white for formal night - on princess/prince theme we just add a tiara :)

also got my son a pair of kaki shorts for summer/cruise - I am trying hard to keep him from wearing athletic shorts everyday!

I am still not sure what we are doing for semi formal night. But we are a little closer to our clothes for this cruise - think I am going to go and start packing!

Krisann

I cannot find the link to the you tube - can someone post it. I know Sarah watched it and I am trying to find it through all our chatting, but no luck. THANK YOU!

I would love to play Mahjong too, never played but LOVE 500 Rummy and willing to learn.

Great! I'll see if I can find 4 of us to play.

On another topic, I went online to check out those Dooney and Bourke bags and I guess I'll be passing on those. They are adorable but a little beyond my budget. Guess DH is safe after all ;) .

We were talking about the first class sleepers for the airplane.

http://www.letravelstore.com/475.html

gotcha! I normally just pull out my bag and stick my feet on it - but I may have to look into this thing further.

Yosemite was fab. Time to catch up.

Woody

I gave up trying to catch up! I just started anew! good luck! I will have to clean out my PM box before I can send you a message about Amsterdam. But I can tell you we will only be there on Friday afternoon - and will do a quick tour - and fly to barcelona early Saturday morning - I think we are the latest ones getting into Barcelona - but it is still at 9:05 am - so not too late :)

Krisann

. . . Amsterdam . . . we will only be there on Friday afternoon - and will do a quick tour - and fly to barcelona early Saturday morning
Krisann, it's too bad we won't be there at the same time. Have a great visit.

Woody

Wow i think I missed almost all of thread 6 and it's taken me two weeks to catch up again.

There are too many things going on to quote them all:
but to those with health issues i hope they clear up soon.
To those who are celebrating weddings and anniversaries - congratulations.

I have finally convinced my DM to join us. she is now paid up and confirmed. The kids are so excited and are already planning on everything they need to show Grandma.

School finishes for the kids this week and we start ten weeks vacation - that ends.... you guessed it one week before our cruise starts! oh well the school wont be happy but what to do? :confused3

For all the Aussies we are heading your way in tow weeks and will be home for six weeks. we will prob visit the Goldcoast for a week in August - so if anyone is up for an Aussie DIS meet just let us know! :thumbsup2

I will try to be more a more regular poster now - however i think i will just have to let DH know that it is time he became a real DIS DH and either ordered pizza or scavenged something up himself. Constantly expecting me to stop DISing and feed him is putting me too far behind. :rotfl2:

Just dropping a quick note to say goodbye for the next 10-14 days. The packing up has started with a bang. The garage sales are done. The bin is still in front of the house and I keep throwing more stuff into it. They're coming to collect that on Tuesday so gotta move, gotta move, gotta move!

All things working correctly our movers should be arriving next Saturday morning. We'll load their truck and then watch them drive away; hopefully we won't be too far behind them. Looking forward to a stop in Phoenix at a favorite restaurant over there; Barrio Cafe. From there on to Las Cruces, NM to visit a night with one of my brothers and his family and then on to someplace....not sure if it'll be Laredo, TX or McAllen, TX to cross the border to head to the new digs. We're HOPING that we'll be in San Miguel de Allende by either Thursday or Friday of the next week. The dogs know somethings up cuz we NEVER clean a house like this!

I'll try and catch up with y'all on the new installment - hopefully you won't be on No. 8 by then!

Oh, and if y'all decide to have another type of drink tasting, put us down for it!

Until we next check in with you, be well, be safe, and enjoy life.

Adios y hasta luego!

Michael
Good Luck
I, for one, am glad you posted. Everything else is usually top notch and I would rather be informed so that I can take precautions than assume that DCL would be prepared. At least now I know that if something happens, it can be serious. For all I know, I might have waited, if something goes wrong and it might be too late. On our first visit to FL, my oldest DD (about 12) at the time, got so dehyrated after 1 week there, that upon entering Universal, she got sick but I didn't notice. 1 hr after getting in, we ended up in their clinic and were in there for 3 hrs. They finally recommended we go back to our hotel room and hyrdate her. I had no clue. We live in SoCal and she plays sports nothing like this had EVER happened to her. I felt bad but really, I didn't realize how bad she was until after the fact.

Also, we have been on board when there have been medical emergencies and other more drastic events. I guess I need to pay more attn to that and realize there's a reason they call for back-up. I must never forget CC and first PC cruise. :sad2:

Just a quick note to everyone who posted their thoughts about DD and the blood clot. We believe as does her physician that the clot was cause by taking Yaz. She is fine now with no restrictions.

All of us need to be diligent in our pursuit of quality health care. If you don't agree with a diagnosis get a second opinion. If you have an HMO, get the patient advocate involved. You would be surprised how much help you can get if you are persistent.

Just my thoughts...
:surfweb:

....
I Totaly agree re 2nd opin. the good people(me and you) just believe what the healthcare profesion tell them without q, and although they are nearly always correct, they are only human.
FYI--Just checked the cruise port schedules. They aren't always 100% accurate but it looks like the Magic will be the only ship in port in Madeira, Gibraltar and Tortola; the Epic will also be in St Maarten that day. Should keep the crowds manageable.

Andrea
Thanks for that.
It has been a busy weekend prepping for the cruise. I cleaned out my closet, tried on clothes and my gowns. I am going to need some alterations, but feel like I have a good handle on the attire. Will neeed a seconf formal gown. I will need to purchase some unmentionables. Just need to sit down and get them ordered. I even had a new bathing suit in my cruise tub. It fitd great, so need to find a new one:cool1:

Still working on the tours in Barcelona. Maybe I will do some more research tonight.

Today Dsis and I went grocery shopping at Walmarts, Costco and Sam's. To say I am tired is an understatement!

Off to work on FE gifts and maybe do a little web surfing for tour ideas.
Thats EXACTLY what Im away to do now.
Our anniversary is July 24th too! :) We celebrate 18 years this year!

Doesnt time fly?

Thats great Grandma is coming.

I just love the pic of you and your brother. You were so cute!!

What do you mean "were"? :rotfl2: Seriously, thanks I thought it was cute (and that you all would understand my excitement finding it).

That's just fantastic! I love it!! You're just adorable, too!
Although the cart may not be there today, you should try to find the exact location (I assume Main Street) and get your picture taken again!

Thats exactly what Robert said about taking the photo in the same spot. We should look out for it :)

The last time this happened was her son's graduation where we showed up in the same dress. This time, I am going to wear a different dress. I am SO glad she emailed me a picture of the dress! I know she told me her dress was one of a kind but oh, well...

Last time I was in the UK, I was staying with one of my identical twin cousins - the other twin came to visit and mentioned she'd just bought a new pair of cord trousers - turns out they had both purchased exactly the same brand, colour and style within a day of each other...

Must of been late summer or early fall. Main Street by the carnation cafe?

Back of the photo says October 1980 - also remember that we are from the southern hemisphere so coming out of our winter, it would have been feeling pretty warm to us. I think you are right about the location. I can't say I remember much of the trip but I do remember the tshirt. :lmao:

'Advanced passenger Information' Paula :)

And next dumb question - for where? I know about the form for the US but didn't know of any others.

Nordkin----congratulations on your wedding. I do remember reading about that on the LGBT boards a while back. That is fabulous. Jason and are "patiently" (or not so patiently, actually) waiting for NY State to follow the lead of MA, IA, NH, VT, CT & DC (and half a dozen non-US countries) so we can do it here, too!

You can't "marry" here in New Zealand as a gay couple but we have civil unions which give exactly the same rights as a marriage. In fact, last I heard, straight couples outnumbered gay couples in getting civil unions.

Any defacto couples actually have all the same rights as civil union/married couples after 2 years living together as far as the courts are concerned. Its one of the reasons Robert and I have never bothered.

The only other thing that is gay couples can't do here is both adopt a child - one parent can but not both. I suspect this will change very shortly.

I thought I`d better have a look at our reservation on the DCL site and it says we will be getting onboard credit for the fuel supplement. We booked with DVC points. Anyone else get this message?

I tried to find it on the DCL site and couldn't see it - where should I look?

For anyone wanting to see which pins I have to trade, here they are - let me know if you want to trade any. I have duplicates of some of them.

How the candy/chocolate swap works
Each player (or stateroom in some cases) will bring 1 small snack/treat sized candy/chocolate bar for each other member of their designated group.

For example, I am playing in 3 groups (2,3&4) so I need to bring 27 candy bars - 9 for each of the 3 groups I am in.

If you would like to play, please PM me with how many groups you want to be in and your stateroom number.

For those playing

Also for those playing, please confirm the following -
1) you still wish to play
2) that you are down for the right number of "groups"
3) your stateroom number if I don't have it noted

Any questions, please ask :)

Below are the names I have for those interested in shared ground transport from Barcelona area hotels to the port.

PM me if you would like to add yourself to the list - no obligation at this stage.

Position vacant
We need someone to take on the task of actually arranging the transport from the hotels to the port? Pretty please...

welcome back! That's a long time the children have off....lucky them! :thumbsup2

Paula ......as far as I know the Advanced Passenger Information is required by airlines. I had to fill it out for BA & Virgin (to Barcelona & the U.S.) so I'm guessing it would be the same for other airlines? May be worth checking under the 'manage my booking' on the websites. :) (and there are no silly questions in my opinion!:thumbsup2)

I believe Spain requires API, and the fact that we had to fill in one for our one way ticket to the UK means folk need one if going there too.

Doctor on board is pretty useless. DD had terrible pain in her leg. He said just rest, it must be sprain. Turned out she had a blood clot in her leg that by continuing to walk traveled into her lungs. When we got off the ship, she ended up first in emergency, then in the hospital for a week in Florida.

When we queried DCL about this, they were very unconcerned. Never did get an apology or any real reason why they did not take her pain seriously.

Totally life threatening.
I suffered from a thrombosis during my pregnancy last year. Didn't leave the hospital for 6 weeks. And didn't leave my bed only to go to the restroom.
So NOT fun at all.

I decided to go to a check up a little before the cruise. I'll see what the doc wants me to do during the flight back.
Maybe I'll even have to get injections again
smiley3642.gif
and wear my good old friends: compressions stockings...

That must have been scary for you. You may need an injection for a long haul flight. We both wear flight socks for any flights over 4 hours and do plenty of leg/foot exercises and walk around a bit. some people take the low dose Aspirin too. Even on a car journey we stop and have a short walk every 2 hours. The driver particularly can suffer a DVT because their leg is in one position for such a long time.

By the way, congratulations on the win. Germany really deserved it!! We were rubbish, but I am not a football fan, so not as devastated as many!!!:lmao: I'm just sorely embarrassed!!!:rolleyes1
