It is nice to see all the stories here. What wonderful memories!!! I never did get to take my dad on DCL, and I really wish I did! I know he would have loved it. But I am thankful for the memories we had from our WDW trip.


I am praying for all of those in the tsunami warning area right now. Hope they are all safe!

Sorry, no time to read all the posts but you have been quite busy!!!

We had a great cruise as usual even though it was cold, and we had 2 rainy sea days, plus not being able to dock and tender to Grand Cayman a change in itinerary to Nassau. I guess some unhappy guests but what can they do?? Fortunately we were blessed with a beautiful day on Castaway Cay yesterday which would help some people feel better, but there was a very cold wind on Serenity Bay(brrrr), so nobody was swimming. Not on the Family Beach though, that was lovely round that side.

Hopefully in 2011 we can also bring my Mum .... well I say hopefully but it's a bittersweet situation really. Mum will only travel if we look after her dog, who is a 14 year old golden retriever. She will NOT leave the dog with anyone else. So the only way we will all travel together is when the dog is no longer with us. That said it will be very sad when that happens as the dog has been my Mum's focus and priority since Dad passed away, and I'm sure it will have a massive negative impact on Mum when the dog passes. The only up side is she will be able to come with us on family holidays.

Sorry about another sad post ..... I promise to be upbeat and positive for the rest of the evening .....

I have the same think with my Mum, Sarah. She's in hospital at the moment and we have had a terrible time finding someone to look after her little dog. Snce Dad passed away in 2008, Mollie has been her constant companion.

My sister finally agreed to take her as she is retired. My sister and I both work Monday to Friday and Mollie would have to be alone for almost 10hrs every day. That's not fair when she is used to being with Mum most of the day, every day.

So funny. But not so funny is that my DH is very partial to his Disney fanny/bum/buffalo pack. He swears by it. Hides his expensive camcorder in it...so no one can get to it............but he can get to it quick. And he hates carrying anything when on holiday. Who can argue..certainly not me!

Re events:

Wasn't there some mention of a ladies afternoon tea and a group beer tasting session and we will also have to organise a DIS meet on embarkation day at some point.

Plus the drinks meet in Barcelona on the evening of the 17th.

Also months ago we discussed a chocolate/candy swap from the country/region you are from.

Other ideas - PJ breakfast, ladies lunch at Parrot Cay on a sea day, likewise for a men's lunch, the ice cream eating contest on the EBPC was hilarious and we really enjoyed the scavenger hunt too.

Also for each port, if people want to get together small groups to do excursions is always fun.

Hopefully I'm not stepping on any toes by doing this, but I just dropped an email to Pratkik Rambla to inquire about the possibility of a group rate. I'll post whatever I hear back.

LOL I know! Logically the pants thing though is so mixed up. Underpants does kind of suggest that trousers are pants yet we don't call them that! Very odd! Fanny Pack is still my all time favourite one

And there are just the other words that we use that are just different...
fortnight = two weeks, autumn = fall etc. Here in NZ we call candy, "lollies" but they are sweets in the UK . Potato crisps are called "chips" and fries are also called "chips" (though I call call them crisps and sweets as my Mum's english). What the UK call ice lollies we call ice blocks... and so on. Why is it mostly food related?

And then there are just some words we pronounce differently. A computer "router" we pronounce with a long "ow" sound rather than "root" as in tree. The word "rooter" has sexual connotations.

And don't even start on the way the NZ/Aussie accents differ - we could go on all day about that one!

If no kids, then does that mean we might even be allowed to go down the Mickey slide?

Its only not allowed if they can catch you - we could stage a coup at the pool and take over the slide. Who's with me?

I don't know if there are any cruisers on the WBTA who are in the tsunami warning area, but if there are, I hope they all stay safe. What a scary thing!

That'd be me and probably the Australian's in the group. We are safe and its a bit of a non-event though they have said to stay away from the beaches today - hard to do on a hot summers day!

My favourite Disney memory:

I have a few but the one that comes to mind is from last March when we surprised the kids with a trip to Disney (their second time) after telling them we weren't going for at least 5 years. We kept all the planning a secret, and woke them up at 4am and shuffled them into a fully loaded car (warmed up by going to Tim Horton's for coffee for the road) a few minutes later. I gave them 5 minutes to pack up their favourite things, having pre-packed activity bags and the things that they would want to have along with them. We told them that Nanna had rented a condo in Florida (true).

We managed to keep the Disney part a secret until we directed them to look at the main gates. They had no idea that we were staying on property. When I told them we were, and asked where they wanted to stay, my dd shouted "Animal Kingdom Lodge!!!" as this was a dream for her. Unfortunately, my son shouted "Polynesian", and didn't get his dream, but he was thrilled with AKL. We drove up to the front and were greeted by concierge (40% code and got a concierge room - awesome deal). My kids got out of the car and literally danced and whooped it up. My daughter was yelling, "This is the best day of my LIFE!" and they were genuinely so grateful, surprised and thrilled. It was obvious to everyone around that we had kept it a secret and the kids looked so beautiful so happy. Other people were smiling and congratulating them. It was wonderful seeing how happy they were, the sun was warm and beautiful, the lodge was amazing and friendly, and the best part of all: the 2.5 day drive was over!

(A runner up was when I arranged a secret private Wishes cruise so Paul could propose to me: he obliged nicely! The fireworks were bursing, the Wishes music was playing, and the kids were in awe of being so close to the fireworks in our own private boat).

Favourite disney memory, April 2005 I took DM to WDW for the Flower and Garden Fest, one of our favourite times to visit. Our 1st day it was damp, I slipped and fell at Oscar's Garage, in the process of getting mom an ECV. Pull something in my ankle, keep on trooping thorough out our MGM day. Ice and elevation that night, off to Epcot the next day. Pull it again on the way into epcot, so mom suggest an EVC for me too, as there is no one to push me around. So we putter around during the day and we head to Rose and Crown for dinner before Illuminations, it was a fabulous dinner.

It was pouring as we went into dinner and still raining when we came out, but we knew that the show would still go on. So picture this Mom and I huddled under our mickey ponchos on our twin EVCs as the rain pours down, watching Illuminations sideways to keep the rain out of our eyes. We were wet and I was very sore, but we were in the world and watching our favourite show together, nothing could have been better.

Apparently the tsunami has hit our local port twice today with the waves of 2m high, the third wave is hitting now, no damage has been reported thus far.

It's been snowing on and off for a couple days now. We still don't have the amount that some of you got

When Rylea goes outside to play she likes to run around with sticks and chew them up. She is like a wood chipper. She'll break off small pieces until the branch is just a pile of chips.

In the winter the snow covers the branches on the ground so she goes right to the source. THE TREE.

No low level branches in our yard

Jon, you might have to bring Rylea over here. We have a garden in severe need of chopping and trimming. Very useful to have a wood chipping dog! Save on electric for the garden shredder!

Ah bless her! I can't blame her on that one! We had/have a great dog sitter who has a farm so our dogs (my sisters since ours died) usually go there as its so big they have a great time! My sisters new dog Zoey was her focus after my Grandad followed by his dog who she cared for died a few years ago. We get to look after her for 2 weeks at the end of March while Lindsay, her hubby, mum and dad go on another cruise! Itll be the first cruise theyve done just the four of them so should be nice, and I get a dog to play with!

At least your mums dog has had a very good (I assume by how your mum is about leaving her) and long life. Ours lived to be 16 I think in the end and were loved so so much! We were with them when they went and that makes it somehow easier. Morbidly we do have thier ashes in the house, which actually is comforting. Dan thinks Im mad cause I say hi to them when ever I go to my Mums but they are still part of our family.

And yes - happier posts please lol! Trouble with being ill and on my own this weekend means Im sat here moping around as it is so need to be cheered up! lol

Oh, bless. You are not on your own on this one. Our little doggie was 16 1/2 when she died a few years back. And we would never leave her last few years with any one but my son., She was old and senile. We were so tied. But wouldnt have changed anything. And we still have the ashes on the bookcase

We said no more dog, we travel a lot and enjoy going out, so dont want to be tied again. But...we didnt hold out in the end. Now we have Madge (short for Magic: a disney dog of course) 16weeks old and full of fun and fluff!

So here's mine. My DH is a real man's man, typical Aussie guy, and very rarely shows any emotion. So on our first DL trip, Our DD's, 3 and 5 at the time met their first princesses and were so excited, I turn to my husband and he has tears in his eyes. Was so cute!

Word that are different with countries seem to all be clothes and food! We have thongs here, NZ have jandals, and I think you have flip-flops?
We call Sprite lemonade, we couldn't understand why we kept getting lemon squash or cordial when we ordered lemonade.
We have tomato sauce, not ketchup!

OK, my bed time now, how sad I am going to bed at 8:30, Just tired today, Nighty Night.

Oh yes the flip-flop ones lol. Thongs to us are undies and thats it. Lemonade in the UK is like Sprite too! Its only in the US that for some reason Lemonade is like squash (so glad you use that word too lol). We have loads of different "ade" drinks that are basically any fizzy pop.
