I take a day off from the boards and you all go chatty crazy

We have a Starbucks franchiase in work (run by work staff) which is the only Starbucks I've known to give me the right coffee first time! Usually I end up with some weird concoction as I tend to order a Chai Tea Latte (techincally not coffee I know). Most places either guess its this syrup stuff with a shot of coffee (no) or make it with all milk (no) or all syrup (no). I've actually told people how to make it sometimes to save the hassel!

I used to detest Starbucks. But they have me hooked now and now I can only drink strong coffee. I go out of my way for the best thing ever for a hard-working gal: drive through Starbucks! Even my patriotic loyalty to Tim's has been quashed. Tim's tastes so weak and watery to me now that I don't even bother (except at the hospital where that is my only option). I was thrilled (and embarrassed at my willingness to take time away from exploring the city) to see a Starbucks in Nassau. I went up those stairs toute suite and treated myself to a cup o' joe.

I have a stupid song worm this morning that won't leave my brain. If I infect someone else maybe it will go away: 'Single Ladies' by Beyonce. That's quite, um, the video.:dance3:

Did it work?

Hey all----just checking in with a quick post from work. Things are still crazy busy here with work and cheerleading. All 3 of my teams---Varsity, JV, and Freshman/Modified are undefeated so far this season:cheer2::cheer2: Freshman and JV's seasons are over now....varsity have winter sectional championships next Saturday and then we are in Orlando for Nationals the second weekend in March (and, yes, Jason and I are going to be IN Orlando in March with my cheerleaders----we will be just miles from WDW and won't be able to go at all!!!:scared1:)

Anyhow.....for those of you who already know me a little from past cruises, as you can imagine Jason and I are literally despondent about Hadley and her family having to cancel:sad2: We've been planning this trip together as an "extended family" since the Fall of 2008....and to have it ripped out from under us is just heart-wrenching. Luckily we got to see them this past December at WDW for a week....but it's not fun not knowing when the next time we'll get the opportunity to see them is :sad1:

Morning all!

Only 32 weeks to go. Time to get really serious about doing some things I was going to do before the trip. I want to learn a phrase a week in Spanish before we go.

This weeks: ¿Cuánto cuesta? How much does that cost?

Most important phrase first!:goodvibes

I like this website because they will pronounce it for you. They have different tabs at the bottom for different themes for the phrases.

http://www.fodors.com/language/spanish/basic-phrases/

They also have a "Spanish to Go" file that you can print out and put in your wallet. For that very real possibility that 1. I forget everything I learned or 2. They can't understand I am saying!:rotfl:

http://www.randomhouse.com/livinglanguage/Audio-Scripts/Complete_Courses/Spanish_ToGo.pdf

Also found to my chagrin that Spanish isn't really the language of Barcelona! Catalan is. It seems to be somewhere between French and Spanish. Here is a little game with the Catalan language. They don't pronounce the phrases though.

http://www.digitaldialects.com/Catalan.htm

I probably will just stick with Spanish!

I know. I'm *SO* sorry for you as well. One cannot think of Hadley & Dave without thinking of you and Jason. I bet Rio is devastated to not see you guys, too. It seems that they're doing a good job of accepting and embracing with excitement their new adventure. For that, I'm thankful.

On a more cheerful note (pun intended), that's *fantastic* news about the teams!! :cheer2: I wish you all continued success!!

Morning all!

Only 32 weeks to go. Time to get really serious about doing some things I was going to do before the trip. I want to learn a phrase a week in Spanish before we go.....

It *IS* time to get crackin' with lots of things!

Great idea! I've also been picking up some phrases and tucking them away, too. I went to the library to get some tourism books, and one has a nice handy-dandy Appendix with really good phrases.

Hi everybody. The German school my children attend told us last week that we can have permission to take the kids on the cruise, HOWEVER if we do so Marika will have to repeat 8th grade:headache: It does not seem to matter what her grades are or if she is caught up or not--they will just start her in 8th next year because she will be missing two weeks:confused3 Sooooo, as much as it breaks my heart to miss this one and not sail with all of you wonderful people (I am especially upset to not be sailing with Erik and Jason now--it is hard only seeing your good friends once in a blue moon and then giving that up) we have had to reconsider. We moved the reservation to the May 26 med cruise as that falls during the two weeks Marika and Rio are out for spring break (yes that is late--but summer does not start until July 31).
I hope you all have a lovely, lovely time on the TA. Oh, and lanyard team, no worries, I will get the info on to Erik.

I can't imagine the let down. I do think it is little unreasonable that they will make her repeat the grade. :sad2:

The snow has begun to fall. Just can't wait to see how much we get this time and how much wind and blowing comes with it.

But guess what???? I don't care because I don't have a job right now!!!!! :lmao:

I have heard that the six people doing my job are going bonkers!!!!!:rotfl:

I did send out a resume to one place that needs someone right now. Now for lots of Pixie Dust to make it work!!!! They use the same billing system that I have worked on for the past five years.

Enjoy the snow and lots of good wishes for the job you applied for. :wizard: I know how that is with 6 people doing the job that 1 person was, makes you wonder how in touch they are with who actually was doing the work. Guess they will find out.

One good thing with this snow i got the day off of work. we have already have more then 10 inches and the say the worst is yet to come. It suppose to snow for another 8 to 12 hour. here are some pics.

Do you know if NEPA (Wilkes-Barre) is getting hit? That is where I grew up! Don't get back there much but 1x a year. I know the last storm missed them. I am sure my dad is hoping they get hit as he does snow removal in the winter (as his retirement job).

I am trying not to even THINK about how much I'm going to miss having Rio aboard-----WHO is going to dance with me at the sailaway party?!? And the Pirates party?!?! And how am I going to get to play in the lab now?! :rotfl2: I'm going to have to adopt someone else's fabulously sassy & stylish child now!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I am sending pixie dust your way. I hope you find something soon. DH is working on his resume right now. We are enjoying a nice morning together before we head out - he to the union hall to do some work, and me to do home visits for all the lovely babies born on the weekend. Although we are in a much better position with DH working, there are some nice sides to unemployment - in your case watching the snow fall and knowing you don't have to battle it today!:happytv:

So far we have had good neighbors come and use their plows and snowblowers to plow us out. Right now with the wind tho, it will be either later today or tomorrow before the final plowing begins. At least the wind is blowing some of the snow off our cars!!!!

My DH is making a big pot of chicken soup with his home made noodles. YUM:goodvibes

Muchas gracias for the links. I printed the Spanish to go for DH to take on Friday to Barcelona!!

They can be hopeless, but I love starbucks, I reckon cause it minds me of my hols, I would never normally buy any type of coffee unless I am away somewhere.

LOL Starbucks rules! Definately a similar reason for me I think

Ha! I will make a bet that you haven't... hmmmm.....what to bet on....

Oh now bare in mind Ive lost every bet I've ever placed! I'm even bottom in my Fantasy Rugby League in work

LOL Definately takes a few tries to get there.

Yeah most people in Barcelona speak Catalan but I think most of them understand Spanish from what I've heard. Its like a regional difference rather than a whole language difference.

The snows looks amazing but I'm sure its getting a bit tedious! I know the small amount we did have here was bad enough

I have a friend on Facebook that lives in Harrisburg about 35 minutes away from here. This is what she posted. I cannot even believe the nerve of that mayor!!!

L****** lives in a city where the idiot mayor asks residents to call to have their streets plowed after moving their cars out of the 18 inches of snow in lieu of declaring a snow emergency, all major interstates that surround the city are now closed by the governor and PennDOT is pushing piles of snow to block the on ramps to ...said interstates, thus trapping us in the city. It may be the end of the world as we know it. :)

A lot of the streets are not that wide and where are they going to go with the snow they shovel??? What a moron.

Kinda, I LOVE that video, she IS amazing.

Night shift, Im tired, had a tough day today, moan, moan ,moan, just ignore me(and I mean it) (really):surfweb:

What makes it worse is that you use their terminology for ordering the coffee and they can't get the order right.

In Reading, pa it is not any better. We are ready have over 24" of snow. This is on top of the 16" of snow on Saturday Berks county is shut down for today and tommorow. It going to snow for about 6 more hours. The weather forecast only call for 6 to 12 inches of snow for this storm.:confused3

only 220 days till the cruise

Kimberly--rest assured I am sad to miss seeing you and other reat DISsers too:goodvibes Erik and Jason are like family though (well better than family really). Rio IS devistated--you know him well. He literally cried himself to sleep again tonight:guilty: It is freaking him out that we have no concrete plans to see them again now (okay it is freaking me out too--I cried far too much this weekend for someone who is still getting to take an awesome cruise). He keeps asking why Erik and Jason can't jsut change to the May cruise too:lmao: He is having a hard time understanding why they would want to do their back to backs if they could instead sail with him:rotfl: Kidding--he does ask but he knows it is not really feasible and that he is not that important to anyone but me and David! (none the less he has said ruefully a good many times that he really wishes the spring break were at the beining of May becuase he is convinved that if we were on the first med cruise he could talk you into changing over to the other TA and then sailing with us--so maybe he still thinks he is a little more important than he is) Meanwhile we are all on overdrive trying to make sure Marika does not feel responsible--because it is not her fault (good gracious even the school admits she is learning erman faster than the otehr kids and her rades are good!)--it is the highly inflexible German school system's fault:headache:

I can't imagine the let down. I do think it is little unreasonable that they will make her repeat the grade. :sad2:
Thanks. I don't want to give anyone the wrong impression--we have found LOTS to love here; this just happens to not be one of those things. I miss homeschooling:rolleyes1

I think I will NOT tell rio you think he is replacable:scared:

Rio is FAR from replaceable! And alas wouldn't it be nice if we actually COULD switch cruises...but even if you guys were on the EBTA we couldn't do it because of our stupid jobs....don't you hate having to have an adult life and a job?!?! :rotfl2:

Well it finally stop snowing after 24 hours. We had 29 inches of snow in this storm. This is after 16 inches on Saturday. So we have 45 inches of snow on the ground. Now all we have till deal with is the 50 mile hour wind gust. here are some pics.

I need a konk kooler!!!!!

Hadley, you and family will be missed. I looked forward to learning about your across the ocean life change.

Erik, I can completely relate, I am sailing with very dear friends, this is our third cruise and will be seeing many other dear friends for our 2nd cruise together, but we have also meet on vacation several times, they are like family to me now. I have cruised without them, but it is never the same.

Kathy, I have been practicing my Spanish with my iPod Touch. I don't have much hope, as I studied French for 10 years and I have trouble putting together a sentence. :sad2: So I also pick an app that allows me to put together a sentence and it will speak it for me, but I would have no idea the answers:headache:.

We ended up with about 4" of snow here in Ontario. I remember driving home from WDW in 2001 on December 26th, huge blizzard in NW PA, OH and W NY, well we crossed from PA to NY and there was a 10' straight up wall of snow on the thruway, they just stopped plowing. :scared1: It was the oddest thing to see for us from Ontario.
