SOUTH!?! You are further north then both of us, lol!:rotfl2: (It is 12 degrees F, here in TO.)

Oh, well see I did not know what part of Canada terapin was from. :rolleyes1Those friendly folks north of us in BC keep sending stuff to us. :headache:

The Olympic committee is in a panic because it is so warm up there, no forecast for snow at all, eek!

Pj

Does anyone think it would be a good idea to get a list of activities so that interested people can sign up to them on the Transatlantic pirates website .. like we have done with lanyards / fish extenders / secret mickey etc.
Then we can keep track of what's going on, who is interested in doing what and it would help the person doing the Navigator to put it all together.

I wonder if we can use the first 5 or so posts from our new thread to keep track of things like this... when meets are scheduled, happenings, who to contact to sign up for various things? Until we get things worked out?

Btw, has everyone signed up for the new roll call and/or edited your profile to include whether you are interested in the fish extenders or lanyards? Doesn't look like there are too many people interested in lanyards, according to that....

Someone mentioned getting maps for your Garmin GPS, here is the link to the Barcelona map. $9.99. I haven't downloaded any city maps from there, so I don't know how they are.

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=37113&ra=true

You can get an app for the iphone called CityMaps2Go that is free and they do have a Barcelona map that you can put on there. It loads the map onto memory so you wouldn't need wifi for that if you do it before you get to BCN. I don't know if the graphics are any better than just getting a good laminated type map that you don't have to worry about losing. But the app is free...

We wanted to use Skype on the iphone to call back to the States when we were in London. We had a hard time finding free wifi, so we really didn't end up using Skype the way we thought we might, but it would have been good in theory.

I did use the free White Noise App on the plane to help me sleep. Love the one with the crickets:hippie:

Also used the one with the currency exchange a little. Oanda only shows one currency pair at a time and does need access to wifi or data plan to update the rates.

Any one else have a favorite app for travel?

Favourite apps for travel...

Alarm tunes for my personal alarm clock.

aSleep for my background noise on planes, love the campfire complete with crickets.

Mouse Memo for specific WDW/DL travel tracking

Cruise Card for cruise spending

XE for exchange info, needs wi-fi/celluar

Awesome note for keeping notes on the city I visit and other stuff

Air sharing to keep PDFs of all my confirmations.

I downloaded exchange le for my iphone for exchange rates. It shows an entire screen full of different rates. Pounds, dollars, euro, Canadian $, Australian $, yen, peso, renminbi, Hong Kong $, franc all on one page. Push a button to update to today's rate. Love it.

I also have translator, so I can type in bathroom and find one. Or steak and get one.

I have 2 screens of Disney apps. I love my iPhone. I will have a new one when I go on the cruise. This one is too small. I can't fit all of my apps on it. I also bought the Navigon and I downloaded the map for Barcelona but can't update it because I have no more room on my phone. But it has a walking mode GPS. It will fit by September. :goodvibes:goodvibes

Fish extender...

On this cruise, due to the amount of people that originally signed up, we are doing groups of 25 cabins or in the case of some of our cruisers 25 room mates (2 FE's per room).

Groups will be assigned pretty soon so people can get started. I will probably also "assign" a day to deliver so that not everyone drops there goodies on the same day/night.

So, the benefit is daily you will get little treats/gifts/goodies from your DIS family!

So, each group of 25 is 25 cabins and/or FEs? Will there be any equilizing of numbers within those 25 cabins/FEs? Does that question make sense? I mean, not all cabins/FEs have equal numbers of actual persons receiving stuff, so will the actual person count be equalized (as much as possible) when sorting out the groups? (so, for example, our cabin won't be assigned to 25 other cabins with only 2 persons in each, and another cabin won't be assigned to a group that has 4 persons in each cabin)

I hope that makes sense.

:cutie:

Thanks for the good ideas! I will have to try some of those out. I just have last year's small memory iphone. So far I am OK with the memory that is on there, but I don't have many videos on it.

I have been admiring the ipad :wizard: and trying to figure out if I want that or just get an ebook reader of some sort. And then, if I get the ipad do I get one with 3G or not... and then what size hard drive? Decisions, decisions...

I am going to *try* to keep it like that, but no guarantees... I know for us I am looking at a FE gift for the cabin - not a per person. I had started out looking at a per person, but with air travel / baggage weight and space, I have changed my mind... Still trying to decide about something extra for the kiddo's...

If you haven't decided by the cruise, you can try mine out. :goodvibes

I am about 90% on getting one, I am thinking 64gb. I have been wanting a larger ipod touch for about a year now. I am iffy on the 3G (would mean going with 32gb model,) but it might make sense depending on the cellular fees up here, the GPS on the 3G would be a positive.

I don't know if i have the time to organize the bus right know. I got the price quote about a week just for info and it already expired. If somebody wants to be in charge of this i can send them the info i have or at least keep a list of names, number of people and which of the praktik you are staying at. If we do this we should do this closer to a paid in full date. Also that price may and will change do to the exchange rate and bus rates

Looks like a few more people have indicated an interest in using shared transport but no one volunteered to arrange or gather names so I'm happy to put up my hand for this (name gathering only at this stage :) ).

If you want to sign up for a shared shuttle/bus etc from PR (or other area hotel) with no obligation at this point, please PM with your details - name, number in your party and hotel etc.

One week from today we will be sailing on the Sapphire Princess. So we will be packing this weekend.

This will be our first time on Princess. We're looking forward to it.

Woody

I've sailed on Princess twice and had a good time, there food was great but wasn't impressed with their entertainment - they were definitely catering to the over 70s in our opinion (I was traveling with Mum and she said it was designed for antique people).

Have fun :)

I am thinking about getting an Ipod touch before the cruise as they seem to be really useful with all the apps people mention. I am also leaning towards a netbook .... but would I need both ???? Decisions Decisions indeed !!!

Thats probably what I will do .... individual cabin gifts and then extra gifts for any children. Still haven't decided upon what to make though .......

Gracious you people post a lot on Saturdays:lmao:

I have a lanyard post to go up soon. I have been holding off figruing that this thread will be shut down and I should get it on the new one--but I will post here anyway if they keep us going past next week. SO, one way or the other stay tuned for lanyard infopopcorn::

Hi
just wondering if any Uk fellow sailors have any info on best value one way flights home from Orlando?

Thanks
Lyn
I agree Aer LIngus might work (we had good one ways on them to Frankfort last year). Yes you do have to change in Dublin.
Also, I am not sure that you can connect to the UK but I would imagine you can--MartinAir (KLMs cheap countepart) is pretty good. I do not think they release dates until 6 months out though. We flew them last month (you have to conenct in Amsterdam) and it went well.

Oh enjoy:goodvibes Princess is the other line we really like. Say hi to PV for me:)

***** WBTA SECRET MICKEY *****

Can those of you who have already signed up for the Secret Mickey send me a PM with the information as detailed below.

For those who have not signed up and would like to know what is involved ... here is the information:

It works along the same idea as a Secret Santa. Each participating stateroom will be matched with another stateroom, and the idea is to buy or make a gift or gifts, with a total cost per cabin of no more than $25. The gift (s) can be one big joint gift for all those in the stateroom, or small individual gifts for each person. The gifts can be left in the FE during the cruise, or you can have the room attendant put the gift in the room. You should have a tag/card that designates it as a gift from their Secret Mickey.

To enable me to match up the rooms, I will need the following information from each participating group:

1. name of participants
2. ages and genders of any children participating
3. DIS name
4. cabin number
5. each person's likes or preferences
6. each person's dislikes
7. any allergies
8. favourite Disney characters for each participant
9. hobbies or interests of each participant

This will help give the participants some idea of what they can incorporate into their gift.

Could you please PM me with the information required.

There will have to be a closing date to give people time to think about and make / buy their gifts, and I think July 1st would be about right, as that gives 2 and a half months.

Thank you all so much :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Well the weather is kicking our Canadian butts once again: it's -11c and cold. Yesterday it was -18. It was so hard to get out of bed and go to work this week!

I have had a hard time catching up on all the posts! We are all a chatty bunch  That suits me just fine.

I'm sorry to hear about the illnesses (hope you feel better Candida), the loss of a loved one, and job losses. I'm sorry I haven't responded individually.

Hoping to keep up better.
Stay warm!! we have aa gorgeous morning here, I am goin to check forecast as i am at work till tom, if it is nice tom, I am going to walk dogs up a ben near e I will post pics:goodvibes

OK, please tell me more about the iphone, white noise?? can you use speakers, I (like sarah) am thinking about a ip touch, I was playing with one at airport last week ans really liked it.
Is the phone just like a touch but a phone as well???
Does it have like a garmin street map thing on it???
Will it cost me for stuff(roaming?? what is hat?) if I need to turn it on other than for phone?

I was playing with a touch like I say and really enjoyed it,like it,I have a shuffle for running, but there was someone on the planelast week next omeand hers looked really tacky and I didnt think they had been out that long.

Lynne--I forgot to say thanks for the link to the gorgeous steam train rides:goodvibes I have to put that on our to do sometday list:thumbsup2 I think we are going to camp in Holland in August. We found a nice campground near the ocean (for Marika) and a water park (for Rio) with easy day trips into Amsterdam.

Now I just have to find airfare for this cruise:rolleyes1

Thinking about getting an iPod Touch for the trip, but not sure if there is a lot of free wi-fi in Europe as there is here in SF. Anyone have any insights that live over yonder or have traveled there.

I think MacDonalds still does free wi-fi across Europe. Starbucks used to but now you have to have a rewards card to get it - like a gift card but you get bonuses.

Had a nosey on this site:

Can someone please explain what a "fish extender" is for the benefit of a "newbie"? Much thanks!

Also, does everyone have the same paid in full date? Our pay in full date is May 21st - just curious?! Thanks.

pirate::surfweb::confused3

Hiya

Yes we do all have the same pay in full date as far as I know

As for the fish extender, basically its a way of giving and receiving gifts from other dis members. The fish extender is a series of pockets that you place outside your room hanging from your fish that is there with your room number on. Disers then exchange gifts in them. You come back to your room and find gifts from other people. Its a fun little exchange system

I really like the FE exchange. It is a fun way to give a little something and what fun it is to come back to your cabin to find surprises from others.

Now I just gotta find a different material from what I used the last two cruises I did. :goodvibes
