German sounds as good as polish to learn.:scared1:

Oooo that looks like a great way to see the city - we might do that one.

Would anyone else be interested if we did a "group" event for this?

As an aside, is anyone collating an "agenda" of activities and meets onboard? For the EB Panama, we had a fairly extensive agenda and daily activities planned that people could attend, some of these events turned out to be real highlights too.

Also should we consider getting a bus/shuttle or even minivans to the port instead of taxi's from the PR and other nearby hotels?

Bus/shuttle or even minivans sound like a great idea.Any group thoughts:drive:

what flight are you on from Philly? if it us airways 742 on Wednesday there is few of us on the flight. a group of us have row 6 through 10 on the right hand side. if you are on you can join the party.

I checked a different website (http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/en/airport/barcelona-airport-transport.html) and it turns out I had incorrect information. It will be 25-30 euros (depends on which terminal you arrive at) for the trip and there is a surcharge for bags. So it's cheaper than I had previously been told but costs more than public transit. The website says the taxis in Barcelona and clean and reliable. I will have two HUGE suitcases plus a carry-on so I may pay for the taxi because I don't want to haul all of that on public transit. And I can split the cost of the taxi with my friend. (Thanks Jennie!) :rotfl:
Oh I'm so glad it's not as expensive as you previously though. Awesome! :)

I will look into this tour. Sounds perfect for the first day. I can get acquainted with the city before venturing out on my own. Thanks! :hippie:
I agree!

One of the best tours we did in Barcelona was the fat tire bicycle tour ....Real easy to peddle and keep up and it takes through all the different parts of the city ... I would do this again if we have time ..

Wow that sounds great too.. something we'd probably do if it weren't for the kids. Somehow I think for us it might be different than riding the bikes around Castaway Cay. I'm not sure I want to trust all 3 kids to stay with us, not run over someone, not get hurt before the cruise, etc. But that is neat! If we were by ourselves we'd definitely do that!

ooh thanks for the link- I'll check it out!

That is much closer to what I remember us paying in 2007. Taxis are pretty much always clean and reliable. We had 6 people and lots of luggage last time around and had no issues at all. We split into two taxis leaving the port and going to our apartment. They followed each other and we paid about 15 Euro each (apartment was close--in the gothic quarter). we took one van to the airport. The driver strapped extra luggage on top:eek: and Dave and his dad both said it was very secure. I think from the apartment to the airport ran about 20-25 Euro. I know we had budgeted more than we even needed.

I am so very glad to read this:goodvibes
Thanks for all the info!
I think we're going to have to get a van or something- thru our TA or something. DH is not fond of us splitting up (him not staying with me/any of our kids) to go in 2 taxis and with 5 of us and our luggage- it would have to be 2 taxis...

Just an FYI here--they have quite a few vans which are taxis. They are quite plentiful at the airport. This is what we used going to the airport with my in laws in 2007 (six people and a slew of luggage)--not a private van at all. We oculd haev had one at the port if we had waited a few minutes but we did not mind splitting up (and the taxis did stay right together). It is also pretty common and easy to arrange to have a taxi driver you liked come back the next day (or whenever0 at an appointed time to ceom and take you somewhere else. So, you could have someone take you from the airport to teh hotel, and then arrange that same van sized taxi to come back for you and take you to the port when you need. Get a phone number just in case (and tip well as an added incentive.

Bus/shuttle or even minivans sound like a great idea.Any group thoughts:drive:

It would be great to share a van or shuttle to the port from the Praktik Rambla ... I wonder if the hotel could set this up for us ... or at least be able to recommend a company.

It would be great to get some group activities set up for the cruise .... I know some people are interested in a Ladies Tea and maybe a group Beer or Wine tasting session, and there was talk of a scrapbooking group. Any other ideas?

I'm just asking, Marilyn. :confused3 Someone might want to know. :rotfl::lmao::rotfl2::laughing:

See, someone like Lynne. :lmao::rotfl:

Lynne came to your rescue!!!

I'm sure Angie, Dennis, John and I will host an Old Geezers and GIT's soiree in Cove Cafe one or two evenings!!!;)

I would first see if there is a taxi stand at or near the hotel.

In some cities, if the hotel calls a taxi for you, the taxi starts charging right away -- including the drive to the hotel.

Was the booze cheap? :rolleyes1

Very good question.

Reasonable. The Sangria was cheap I know that. Also I think we got a bottle of lime Vodka for around 11 euros which I thought was reasonable. However there are 2 booze shops and they have different prices so shop between the 2. We saved a bit doing that. Didn't have much wine but lots of spirits

Sounds like I'll pack an empty suitcase to load up on spirits for the cruise.

Can someone post the link to the new thread? Forgot to bookmark it the first time. Thanks!

This one has to be close to closing...any post now!! ;)

By my count this thread had been running for 8 months with 4032 posts. We have 8 months to go and we are picking up steam. At this rate we'll burn through another thread in no time.:surfweb:

Yes, she did!

Likely a Geezer meet early in the cruise, then nightly meeting for anyone interested in a do over. :woohoo: That is what happened on the PC cruise. We had so much fun that every night a few geezers would show up.

Thanks for that info, Woody. :worship: I appreciate the help of experienced travelers. This is our first time in Europe.

I saw on the ebTA page that they have organized group dinners and brunches at Palo. Is that something that we're considering doing as well, as we get closer to the booking date?

I think someone was organising a navigator weren't they? Cant remember who - hope it wasn't me now as I sound like a fruit loop if it was

Oh thanks Woody ..... never booked a taxi in Europe ( apart from GB) so thats interesting to know.

:rotfl::rotfl: I think it was you !!!! That makes you a fruit loop :rotfl::rotfl:

Does anyone know if it's possible to WALK to the port from the hotel if your luggage has wheels and is easy to manipulate ( I am rubbish at estimating distance). That would eliminate all the taxi hassle.
