What on earth are Tim Tams ?

Tim Tams are biscuits, the original flavour is 2 wafer thin biscuits with a chocolate cream in the middle, then the whole thing is dipped in chocolate. They come in other flavours like caramel, bailey's irish cream, etc...
We bite a small bit off each end and dip it in our coffee, then use the biscuit as a straw to suck up your coffee with all the melted chocolate coming through, Not at all lady like, but oh so worth it!!!

Ghiradelli chocolates for us, DW took her board name (hotfudgesundae) from her favourite item off their menu in DTD Allways have to bring a bag home with us evey year and ration them.

Have never tried them! Between the churros, beignets, turkey legs, taffy, rice crispies, dole whips, mickey ice-creams, brownies, etc....I have just never got to them. It's on the list for October!

Cherry Ripes! Yum! We can get these here occasionally now too (thank goodness).

DH loves Cherry ripes, I'm not a huge fan, But can def bring some for FE!

Ages ago we talked about doing a candy/chocolate swap where everyone brings along some items from their country or region - is there still any interest in this?

By the looks of this thread the FE is going to be food based!

I would happily trade some Cadbury's chocolate for some Reeces Peanut Butter cups .....

Cadbury is our major choccie here too. I'm not sure what the UK has. We have Dairy milk blocks, caramello, fruit n'nut, cashew, dream, there are about 20 flavours of the block chocolate. Then bars, we have boost, cherry ripe, crunchie, picnic, twirl, flake, time-out, turkish delight and bubbly. And that's just the beginning!

Our family moved to Germany andlife got too busy for me to keep up with two meet threads (especially becuase this one moves FAST) so I concentrated on the one for the cruise I took last month. Now I get to focus on the TA again

My name is Hadley. I will be sailing with DH David, DD13 Marika and DS11 Rio. We get to dine with some of the most fun people ever--Erik and Jason--I imagine Erik has been posting steadliy and you all know him by now. He handles most of the lanyards, but I play a small role in that too (more on that in a few days). We are super excited to do another TA (we did the first) and see many great friends as we sail.

I have not been reading along (sorry). From this page alone I see there is a book swap (DD got a kindle for CHristmas so I think we can load it up and not need more) and a candy swap (I am all for that and will bring German chocolates--probably Ritter or Kinder). Anything else i NEED to know right now???

But just wanted to say that our experience of Spanish trains is that they are incredibly good! Madrid main train station is a sightseeing highlight in itself to see, check out all the tropical scenery and terrapins! Madrid is a fabulous city.

Glad to hear that everything is going well and looks like you've settled in. So we've all just been chatting about life and answering questions of the week. It's been fun but more exciting now that we'll be sailing THIS year!! I believe someone above posted that there is a new website and everyone needs to re-sign. Wow - just a couple of months to the PIF date!

I have dole whip and ice cream cookie sandwich on my list for our one day in Magic Kingdom, but not sure if I could manage both in one day. I have never had either.

Chocolate in the UK .... our main brand is Cadbury, and we also have Galaxy, which is a bit creamier. Also we have more specialist chocolate sold by Thorntons and Hotel Chocolat. The slabs sold by Hotel Chocolat are out of this world:

Thanks everyone We are doing well in Germany. It was really overwhelming at first and we had made the decision to "ease" the kids into school here by putting htem in an insanely expensive, small private school that taught in English for the last half of last year (ie--when we moved). That turned out to be a huge mistake and the kids were miserable, not learning German (they were supposed to have classes 2 hours a day at te hschool but it didn't happen) and we were broke. NOW they are in a great public international school (school started mid September here) and are learning German very quickly amd making lots of friends. I have German class every day for five hours so I am making progress, but it is slow
Dave travells most weeks so he has learned the least German.

We really love it here and adore travelling aroun Germany and branching beyond that at times (we spent a week in Denamrk this summer which was wonderful and will spend Easter in Salzburg. I am still trying to find time/money to drop in on Lynn in Scottland too).

I have to get ready for Marika's birthday party tomorrow (she turned 13 the day after Christmas). One thing I love about the kids' school is that it is sooooo diverse. Comming tommorow are girls from Iran, Switzerland, Germany, America, Gambia and Palestine. Anyway, after the party I will get online to the new website and sign up for things (I PROMISE SUE).

We went to the Ritter factory over Christmas vacation. The kids got to design their own candy bars. Marika made mint stawberrynd Rio made sprinkles and crispies. The candy bars there were soooo cheap

Hadley - glad to hear everything has worked out with the kids school!! Hey - you tried to pick the best choice for your kids. Unfortunately, you don't always know until you're living it. As far as language, children pick this stuff up so much quicker than adults!!! And in my very limited experience, German is not easy! But I also know that you pick it up much quicker being there than in a school room in the states. Probably cause you need to. It's so great that the kids will have all this experience!

If you can only manage one, I would say get the dole whip. So so yummy!! The ice cream sandwich is a very good ice cream sandwich, but I can get good ice cream sandwiches other places. I have never found another place where I can get dole whip.

I wanted to mention a book to all you readers out there. My book group just finished Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It was good (not great, but certainly a worthwhile read) and is set in Barcelona with LOTS of descriptions of part of the city. I thought some of you may enjoy reading things set where you will be travelling (I always do).

What an awesome experience for you and your kids! I would love to have the opportunity to move abroad with our family. I lived in England for a year but that was before I had kids.

Have fun in Salzburg! I love Salzburg. It is my favorite city in Europe.

Oh do you have any must do ideas tips for Salzburg?
We have four days. We arrive <friday and have tickets for the Motzart dinner (I know it is totally touristy, but everything I have heard about it and my dad.s opinion is it is so well done so it will be our Good Friday treat). We will do a salt mine tour (Rio will ove it) and are planning to get Salzburg cards and seeing as much as we can but it will not be all so if you have tips on what to put as a top priority in your favourite city I would love to know

What about a book swap? I know that I'll be bringing a few books and will finish them quickly, esp with 6 sea days.

Me and my sister did this last time. We put a bag on our fish extender for people to put books in and take them out when ever they want like. It worked well actually. I don't mind doing it but read very little lol. Any books left in at the end we gave to Cove Cafe.

The Princess and The Frog. I adored it. I'm originally from Louisianna, and boy did they nail the accents and little expressions. So awesome!

Cant believe I overslept and missed seeing it for free! May pay to see it instead!
