Lynne--I forgot to say thanks for the link to the gorgeous steam train rides:goodvibes I have to put that on our to do sometday list:thumbsup2 I think we are going to camp in Holland in August. We found a nice campground near the ocean (for Marika) and a water park (for Rio) with easy day trips into Amsterdam.

Now I just have to find airfare for this cruise:rolleyes1
no probs:goodvibes
I think MacDonalds still does free wi-fi across Europe. Starbucks used to but now you have to have a rewards card to get it - like a gift card but you get bonuses.

Is the phone just like a touch but a phone as well??? Does it have like a garmin street map thing on it??? Will it cost me for stuff(roaming?? what is hat?) if I need to turn it on other than for phone?

My understanding from talking with them at the Apple Store is. Touch is what the iPhone was based off of. So it is pretty much the same thing with out the phone and AT&T subscription cost. There is no roaming as it uses wifi only. You can use free wifi hot spots or access paid wifi (like on the ship or in the airport). I am not into paying for my wifi while in port hence the curiosity of free wifi in Europe. So far Barcelona looks good, but other cities like Rome or Florence are not as promising.

I think MacDonalds still does free wi-fi across Europe. Starbucks used to but now you have to have a rewards card to get it - like a gift card but you get bonuses.

Thanks for the link -Good to know that McDonalds and Starbucks work the same on both sides of the pond.

As of now with the research I have done, it doesn't seem worthwhile to get a Touch. I was hoping to be able to use the maps application or walking tours of the city. I saw an iPhone commercial that had an app that did the city's highlights (think it was of Rome), but if I have a touch and can't get a wireless signal, then I am better off getting on a tour either on my own or through Disney.

As things with work get more and more busy and I get more and more stressed I am leaning towards an excursion with Disney, just given my lack of time to plan as I feel I need to do something otherwise and be able to relax and enjoy my time off.

I was very productive yesterday, cleaned both bathrooms, got most of the cat items put away (had to put my cat of 12 years down right before the new year) (litter box, cat tree, carrier, food dishes, toys, etc), did a few loads of laundry and got a little more organized for packing (starting to store items in my extra room).

So back to work I go this morning, another load or 2 of laundry, grocery store and more packing/organizing. The last 2 weeks I have been doing research on Tunisia and the 2 weeks before that on Malta. The next 2 weeks I am going to learn more about Corsica.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week and hope to catch back up next weekend. And yes, only 7 months and 5 days till I am on a plane to Barcelona. (thanks to who ever caught my typo yesterday)

BTW, yesterday morning they still had one room of each kind (single, double single, and double) left for Friday night. Just saying! I didn't look for the additional days, so there may be availability then, too.

.... maps for your Garmin GPS, here is the link to the Barcelona map. $9.99. I haven't downloaded any city maps from there, so I don't know how they are.

Thanks for saving me the look up! I'm glad I have the "Walking" feature on mine!

Favourite apps for travel...
Alarm tunes for my personal alarm clock.
Cruise Card for cruise spending

I downloaded exchange le for my iphone for exchange rates. It shows an entire screen full of different rates. Pounds, dollars, euro, Canadian $, Australian $, yen, peso, renminbi, Hong Kong $, franc all on one page. Push a button to update to today's rate. Love it.

I also have translator, so I can type in bathroom and find one. Or steak and get one.

I have 2 screens of Disney apps. I love my iPhone. I will have a new one when I go on the cruise. This one is too small. I can't fit all of my apps on it. I also bought the Navigon and I downloaded the map for Barcelona but can't update it because I have no more room on my phone. But it has a walking mode GPS. It will fit by September. :goodvibes:goodvibes

You can get an app for the iphone called CityMaps2Go that is free and they do have a Barcelona map that you can put on there. It loads the map onto memory so you wouldn't need wifi for that if you do it before you get to BCN. I don't know if the graphics are any better than just getting a good laminated type map that you don't have to worry about losing. But the app is free...
Also used the one with the currency exchange a little.
Any one else have a favorite app for travel?

I love my iPhone, too!!! It's the best toy I own and happens to double as my phone.
I have a few travel apps:
-ACTCurrency - a free currency exchange app
-translator - free app which includes Catalan. I speak Spanish and have heard I can get around Barcelona just fine with it but I'm also going to learn some phrases in Catalan. I hope this goes far when trying to get a good price for everything. When in Barcelona....
-eTicket - WDW and disboards app.
-Cruise Card (Thanks for this btw...I had not heard of it.)
-Southwest - free app. love this one. sends Ding messages with super cheap flights
-Google Earth

I'm going to check out the CityMaps2Go. Sounds like fun! I'm also happy the BR will have free wi-fi. I want to avoid any and all roaming fees.

I have been admiring the ipad :wizard: and trying to figure out if I want that or just get an ebook reader of some sort. And then, if I get the ipad do I get one with 3G or not... and then what size hard drive? Decisions, decisions...

I need to do research on the iPad. I think it looks like fun. I wonder if the ebook will be as easy on the eyes as the Kindle.

Looks like a few more people have indicated an interest in using shared transport but no one volunteered to arrange or gather names so I'm happy to put up my hand for this (name gathering only at this stage :) ).

If you want to sign up for a shared shuttle/bus etc from PR (or other area hotel) with no obligation at this point, please PM with your details - name, number in your party and hotel etc.

Thank you Paula.

I wonder if we can use the first 5 or so posts from our new thread to keep track of things like this... when meets are scheduled, happenings, who to contact to sign up for various things? Until we get things worked out?

Btw, has everyone signed up for the new roll call and/or edited your profile to include whether you are interested in the fish extenders or lanyards? Doesn't look like there are too many people interested in lanyards, according to that....

I'm interested in a lanyard. I thought I signed up for them when I registered on the website but it says I haven't. I'm going to try again.

So a few weeks ago we did Chinese food for lunch. My fortune was "You wil soon cross a great ocean on a fantastic trip". My staff all thought it was funny and asked how much I paid for that one... :) I should play the lottery with the numbers...

Love that fortune!!!!! That is so cool! :)

Hey guys!

I have a possible silly question for anyone familiar with exchanging currency. 'Cause I have noooo idea! :)

How do I know what a good exchange rate is?

My parents are also going on this cruise. In May they are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary!! So this cruise is like their big celebration. For their anniversary I'd love to be able to give them some euros along with their gift.

I found that I can get euros from my bank, bank of america, but I don't want to bother getting them from boa if it's a bad deal. But how do I know what is a good exchange rate?? I've traveled overseas, but it's always been an all-inclusive style, so I've never had to worry about this.

Bank of America is offering 1.4692. Is that a good rate?? Being that a euro is 1.3866 in usd, I would think this IS a good rate??? :confused3 Or could I do better once I'm over there??

I'm so confused!

TIA!

BTW: I'm not planning to get my whole trip's amount, just some for my parent's gift. I found out that Dublin has a BOA, so when we're there for a few days I can use their atm without all those pesky fees! :woohoo:

Were staying there too but not flying in until late on Friday

We've just changed to here for the one night. We were at Hotel Continental. But the price was a lot better with free shuttle from airport to hotel and then only €10 fom the hotel to the port. The shuttle from the hotel to downtown is €6 but only leave 4 time a day, so I guess we will be using the subway and the hop on/hop off bus round town.

I managed to get a good deal on Virgin but used airmiles so this worked OK. Also I think some people on the last TA did return flights. Oh and haven't USAir got a sale on at the moment so might get something good there?

Ditto.

Hi i KNOW the answer is out there some where but these threads are so long i'm not sure where to look.

What's the difference between the "fish extender exchange" and the "secret mickey" that will be running in the WBTA.

What are the rules?

Many thanks and big hugs

SW

I am going to *try* to keep it like that, but no guarantees... I know for us I am looking at a FE gift for the cabin - not a per person. I had started out looking at a per person, but with air travel / baggage weight and space, I have changed my mind... Still trying to decide about something extra for the kiddo's...

We will be doing one gift per cabin, unless there are 2 separate parties in the cabin. i.e. PJ is rooming with us so that would be two. I think there are others as well.

In the FE exchange, you would put a small gift or momento in the FE of each cabin participating (or in the case of this cruise the 25 cabins in your group). And you would receive small gifts from 25 others. The Secret Mickey you would get a gift for just one other SM participant - around $25 gift. And you would get from just one other SM participant.

No such thing as a stupi question and that definately isn't one! I always prefer FE because that way I can make a few cute gifts instead of having to choose something specific! Really rubbish at choosing gifts for people so this is a much better way for me.

I think were doing per person depending on numbers within the 25 option - can't work out if we are in groups of 25 people or 25 rooms.

Thanks was wondering what the rules for, number of gifts per person/ per cabin and as we're at sea for 14 days is there a designated day when everyone swaps or do you just make deliveries when you feel like it?

SW

Do you want to know how many bags people will have??:scared1::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I don't think we need to know that. After doing this on the panama cruise buses from Disney land I'm not planning to fill the bus to capacity. I'm hoping to leave 10 to 15 seats for luggage storage and every one will have a seat.

I was thinking of have the buses start picking up at around 9:00 at the praktik barcelona and load up. Then going to the praktik rambla by 9:20 and load up. Then head to the port around 10:00. I look like it is only a 10 to 15 min drive to the port.

Its when ever you feel really. Its best for everyone not to do it on the first day just because it makes it boring for the rest of the cruise but its when ever you have time.

That sounds good timing - as long as Angie, Dennis and PJ get up in good time!!!
