Just checking in quickly.

Had my first week of work since June. I was laid off in April and off payroll in June. It's been a long search. I had 1 interview in July that didn't lead to anything. Then was contatcted last month by a recruiter that found my resume on Monster. Right now this is a 3 month contract but they expect to hire me permanent next year.

You know how difficult it is to get back into the swing of things after a vacation? Well try doing it after a 6 month vacation. I miss my mid-morning naps!! But it is nice to be employed again.

Holiday tradition - I get my son and I new holiday pajamas (usually Disney) every year and we wear them on Christmas Eve. After opening presents on Christmas morning, we head to my mom's, still wearing our pajamas, for biscuits and gravy. YUM.

good luck, I hope it goes well, I think I would be lost without a job although i seem to complain a lot about it.

Thanks boosgram, thats from our trip 3 years ago, I love disney ties, you can dress them up or down.
Going to start looking on ebay for bow ites, Lynne

DH and I just got back from the wackiest christmas shopping trip ever.
We left after work Friday to head down to Manchester NH. (about 2.5 hours from our home) We checked into our hotel... Which had NO POWER. Apparently the storm that was mostly snow and sleet where we live was ice further south and parts of the area had been without power since Thursday night.
Every single hotel in the Manchester area was fully booked, so we either had to stay in the powerless hotel or go home. We had thought maybe we would just do what we could that night, and get DH a big coffee and go home that night, but The mall and several of the area stores we had planned to go to were also w/o power.
So we stayed in the powerless hotel with our GLOW stick they gave us. The next morning DH went to a different mall 30 minutes south, since the Mall of NH's message on the phone still said closed until further notice.
Totally crazy.
I feel awful for all the people who live down there that don't have power. And as a former retail worker at the Mall of NH I feel for all the stores who lost at least a day of sales right before Christmas.
When we were driving home we stopped about 45 minutes north, and the 2 gas stations and the mcdonalds (the only things off the exit) were closed due to no power too.)
I hope NHDisneylover and her family are ok.

The ice storm hit a large area - we were without power for a short time Thursday night but I have friends who live just a few miles away who are still without power and according to the power company probably won't have it back until sometime on Tuesday.

Keeping good thoughts for anyone who was affected by the storm and that those without power get it back soon!

Sorry so many people in your area are without power. I work for Dominion Virginia Power and am proud to say we sent help your way this morning. The people we send are all volunteers and they do a bang up job. We are known in the industry as the company you want because we get the power back on faster and safer than any other electric company in the country. If you see any crews from companies other than your local one, please thank them. They and their families are making sacrifices for them to be there to help Here's hoping everyone has power soon.

Donna

Morng everyone,
I hope the power is restored soon for all those people.
Next week we may loose power too due ot 2 big storms headed our way.
It is snowing like crazy right now and due to be in the teens tonight which means everything will be ice by morning.

We are very fortunate if we loose power because we are in an RV and have a generator. It is full of gas and ready to go if needed so at least we can stay warm, and since we had a propane cook top we can light burners if needed.

Not sure of our temp right now but I am still wearing my long johns, 2 pairs of socks and my sweats inside to keep warm:thumbsup2

Keep warm and safe everyone and if we dont loose our internet during the storms the next few days I will post again soon,

Kathy

I pray that all those who are without power have it restored really soon. It's so dangerous w/o heat in these frigid temps.

We lived in upstate NY for 5 years and had a huge ice storm one fall. Because the leaves were still on the trees, we lost many of them due to the weight of the ice (one black walnut fell right in front of our house onto our car and camper--lucky it wasn't the house!). And when you have a well, you can't even flush the commode  . (Now I remember why we moved to VA. And I agree w/Nordkin; we're fortunate to have Dominion in our area.)

I hope NHDisneylover and her family are ok.

Not sure but I think they were heading over to Germany. Wonder if they made it out before hand or worst, I hope they don't come home to an unwanted surprise! Buckeye Girl lost power for a long time in the storms in her area just before our DD cruise. She was working during the day, stopping at her house to salvage what food, etc she could and try to get ready for the cruise!!! At least she didn't have to worry about freezing temperatures.

I hope everyone makes it through and gets their electricity back soon!

Erik! Teddies??? You never cease to amaze me! And you started talking about your creative skills again. I'm swooning! :lovestruc (just kidding, my friend, had to stick it in once for this cruise, but I am impressed!)

Just wanted to send a big  to all of you over in USA suffering from extreme weather conditions and with no power. I know we moan a lot about our weather in the UK, but when you hear about situations like this it makes us realise that we should be grateful for our boring weather. Hope you are all managing to cope and that you have your power restored as soon as possible.

WOHOW all this bad weather. Hope everyone stays warm and safe! Here we just have a nice cold winter day outside looking at the sky slowly brightening (it does have a pink tinge still so might be in for some bad weather later). I don't think we've seen decent snow for awhile down my way! Last year we had a day of snow and it brought the area to its knees! Litterally it snowed in the morning after we got to work! By 1pm they closed our office so we headed home! Because of all the traffic backing up around the city we didn't make it home until 7pm (its a 20 minute journey) and by that time all the snow had melted! It was crazy!

Good luck Kathy! Hope it all goes OK with this job. Fingers crossed!

Well, technically yes it's 24 nights on the ship....however, at least 2 of those are formal (one on the 10 night and one on the TA----although I've heard that there may be additional formal nights on either or both) plus there will be a pirate night on each trip, too....so that is down to no more than 20 nights we'll need ties for. I believe at last count we had 36....so we need 4 more over the next 21 months to have our bases covered. However, if it looks like there might be a few more formal nights....I need to work on getting us some additional formalwear accessories, too. I'm going to keep my eye out for fabric that I can use to make additional tie & cummberbund sets and/or vests....or keep an eye out for pre-made Disney formalwear sets.

On the WB TA we had 2 formal nights in the end and 1 semi so I'm guessing it will be similar.

Speaking of which have any of you men out there used the Disney tux hire at all? Dan's not sure whether to get a tux or just hire one onboard and wanted to know whether people have ever had any problems?

My God this sounds like a nuts trip! Not fun at all

I ditto this! We get rubbish weather but at least we tend to avoid the extremes! Would have liked to have had a summer but glad we're not having power outages etc.

Morning all The bitter cold of teens and 20's has finally got to us.:sad2:

3 or 4 inches of snow during the night. Suppose to stay this way for at least 10 days with more snow on wednesday and thursday.

I-5 which runs through Washington, Oregon and California is close all the way through Washington and most of Oregon.

Ny hubby just called and he is stuck on the freeway trying to get to work.
2 semis jack knifed in front of him so nobodyis moving there.

He has plenty of gas to keep running the truck to stay warm.

He says when he can get turned around he si coming back home:thumbsup2

I tried to get him to stay home to start with,MEN!! Grrr!!

Thankfully we still have power for heat. Plus a generator to run if w eloose power, but its still really cold on the RV. They dont really insulate them.

The pups and I are all snuggled in blankets while sitting here.:goodvibes

Hope all of those in worse places than us are doing ok.
I will check back later if we still have internet service.

Wish I was back on the cruise. Only 10 days ago I was still in warm tropical weather;) I wanna go back !!! Mickey come get me, PLEASE:rotfl2:

You poor guys over there! I bet you wished you were back there!

It's even stormy in So Cal. They closed I-15 this morning, and I-5 over the Grapevine is trecherous. Glad we arrived a couple of days ago and are only experiencing the inconvenience of getting a late start at DL today. :sad2: We need to go buy a couple of umbrellas. We talked to our kids in OR and MT and they are quite chilly (-2 in MT mid afternoon yesterday, -30 with the wind chill). Kathy updated on the OR situation. Our son-in-law works for Oregon Dept of Transportation so he is very busy.

Yesterday, 51 degrees.
Today, 6 degrees.

Even the gas pumps froze.

I have to venture out in 10 minutes and then go to work until 2am.

If I don't return, you'll know I froze solid to the ground and someone strung lights on me.

Ho Ho Ho

Hi Angie,

Have fun at DL.:goodvibes

Kathy

Well DH finally made it back home. The police closed the freeway and turned everyone around which I am thankful for. All the tows are busy so it may take hours to remove the 2 semi's that jack knifed.

At least the pups are having fun in the snow. They love it!!

Back later Kathy
