Thanks for all the well wishes with our binky fairy attempt. Mission completion as the Little Einsteins would say. When she got up it was the first thing she asked for but I took her to the empty basket where she left them all and she found her new Pooh Lego set from the binky fairy. She didn't even want to eat breakfast because she was having so much fun playing with it. She asked for binky several times today but only before nap time was it an issue. She started crying her eyes out when I reminded her binkies were all gone. We used a lot of distractions today every time she would mention it and that seemed to work. By bedtime tonight she didn't even ask for it! So now I don't have to keep track of all our binkies for 3 weeks or ever again. Now a little scared though that she's so easy and well-behaved... does that mean the next one will be a terror?

I have a friend that was trying to have her daughter be finished with binkies, so she got rid of them all except one and then they went to Build-a-Bear and had the binky put inside a stuffed friend for her. I thought the idea was brilliant

That's a really neat idea. I never would have thought of that.

Good luck!!! Neither of my girls were binky girls... we had to figure out how to get rid of the thumb. (fingernail polish worked the first try... but it was almost age four for her!)

I was a thumb kid till I was 7 sad to say. My parents tried everything except for that crazy plastic apparatus I've seen in catalogs. So when Lorelei was young I really pushed the binky when I saw she started sucking on her fingers that way I knew I could take it away.

I'll send you a pm. Funny how we all speak the same language but have really different words. I tried teaching her the thai word for binky but the direct translation is fake nipple and I didn't like saying it.

He didn't even notice... which makes me wonder what else people hand him.

Attention All Daniel Taxi Madeira Tour Members

Just a quick update on supermarkets and PayPal from Eusébia at Daniel Taxi.

1. From the Morrison's link, I presume you're looking for a supermarket. The shopping centres I made reference to, are of the type with several clothes shops and so on, so probably not what you meant. Pingo Doce, for instance, is more in the line of Morrison's. There are two in Funchal, both as part of shopping centres: Dolde Vita and Anadia Shopping. Dolce Vita is closer to Blandy's than Anadia, but is not very easy to find your way inside this place, when you're not familiar with it. In my opinion, Pingo Doce in Anadia Shopping will be better, but, of course, the drivers will make the final decision.


2. Yes, they may choose to procceed as you mention, in relation to drop off and pick up at Blandy's, the supermarket and cruise ship.

3. Yes, it's a good idea for people to bring their Paypal receipts if they have prepaid. Driver should have a list.

on the EBTA we did a private tour with one of Daniels drivers, we ended up at a supermarket inside a mall somewhere in the middleish of town, it was down a couple of escalators. This supermarket had a good selection of adult beverages, fruits, flowers, and other things. NO idea what the name was, our driver had to pull over in a little drop off area on a downtown type street going down a hill and come back for us.

What a fabulous day!

First, my mom and dad called to wish me a happy birthday and we caught up on all the family gossip of the last week.

Then I won a beautiful beaded dress on eBay for next to nothing (which I hope will fit as I've bought several that haven't), perfect for a formal night (anyone know where I might find a place to wear it?).

Later I went to lunch and shopping with a dear friend from my teaching days, who I haven't been able to connect up with for months, and her daughter (who will be able to use some of the aforementioned non-fitting dresses for homecoming, prom, etc). We had a great time and found some really cute shoes to go with the beaded dress.

After that we went to Sam's to pick up the lobster tails and while we were there, some lovely steaks called out to me, so we're now having surf-and-turf for dinner. I also found a fabulous torte (fudge cake, marscapone cheesecake, & chocolate mousse) that just begged to be my birthday cake, and spared me the trouble of baking my own. There were also some yummy little chocolate covered frozen banana slices that jumped into my cart, and my friend and I had to sample them on the way back to her house (her daughter bailed on us after lunch) to make sure they weren't spoiled or anything.

Dennis gave me a beautiful orchid (I told him about the clear pot thing, Claire), and at the moment we are sitting around drinking champagne (yes, actual champagne, from France) after eating a delicious appetizer of portabello mushroom caps stuffed with crab and shrimp that he picked up on his way home from work. We're about to fire up the grill to cook the steak and lobster. The dogs are all cuddling up with us on the couch. Does it get any better than this?

To paraphrase (sort of) Sam in "Casablanca," "This champagne sure takes the sting out of turning 50."

nah havent priced it up exactly, as i know its more than we're prepared to pay. was just thinking that if we can get a verandah for something stupid like a couple of hundred dollars more then we'd go for it, but at the moment they want at least $600 more. not too bothered for that price.

That is the way we are looking at it ..... if there is an upgrade at the port for a decent price we will grab it. Otherwise we are happy where we are

I have a light box like this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Apollo-Go...900?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item27bcd9dc74 and it does the job. They have other more expensive models you could check out too. This year between the light box and switching most of the lights in the house to use the bulbs that mimic daylight, I barely bothered that it was winter. I will probably bring mine along on the cruise as it can also help you get over jet-lag.

Well I had a successful day yesterday shopping for cruise items ..... I won a maxi dress on Ebay which will be ideal for Parrot Cay, very tropical, and when it arrived it actually fitted me and I actually feel good in it

Then I went shopping and had a shoe moment with a gorgeous pair of lime green wedges and even though in all honesty I don't need any more wedges, I do have a bit of a thing for lime green, and so the shoes had to come home with me.

Then in another store I found a white top, ideal for throwing on over swimwear, or wearing with shorts etc, in Marks and Spencers for £2.99, reduced from £39.99 - I actually thought it was a mistake, but when I went to pay it was indeed £2.99.

All in all a successful shopping trip

Sounds like a very successful shopping trip. I was hoping to go holiday shopping with Lee yesterday but he has been laid up resting his foot....for some strange reason his foot hurts more than his toe.

It was horrible yesterday. I said to John it was like October and we sat indoors watching lots of Passport Control or other such TV programmes all afternoon! It is a little like a cool April so far this morning with some heavy showers. Roll on 5 weeks.

Important info re: airport transfer​

so far we've had confirmation (and payment greatfully received) from 12 people out of the maximum of 16. still waiting for confirmation from lionessa and thepicketts (hasnt been online since june which i'm concerned about and hasnt responded to a facebook PM). i'm very reluctant about leaving the booking any longer in case they get fully booked up.

i've gone ahead and requested the booking for 16 people. if i havent heard from the other two groups within the next week, i'll have no option but to take them off the list and open it up again for other people to join in. worse case scenario and we end up with 12 people in a 16 capacity coach, i'll just take the hit on the extra charge, but i hope to be able to fill their spaces back up if needed.

will keep everyone updated as soon as i hear back from them and get confirmation of the booking.
