I read on another thread that they are going to start giving a limited menu to people on the ding plan. But you can pay extra and have more options? Is there any ligitimacy to that? If so I will definately be dropping the DDP off my reservation. We actually usually pay more than we would to pay OOP, but I like the convenience of having the food prepaid. No way will I pay more and get a limited menu. If this is true, where can I find more information on it?

I know I'll be in the minority, but I hope that is the plan. It's one step in improving dining across the World..

The only thing I can think of similar to this is that they are offering a prix fixe menu at some locations that is separate from the regular menu. You can still choose which to order off of, but if you are limited to whichever menu you choose.

Almost sounds like the pricing on cruises. You pay for dining, but when you eat in the specialty restaurants it is a surcharge. I don't know~ I always just figure Disney is what it is and you can't change them. You live with what is comfortable for you and pass what offends your sensibilities

So you can still order off the regular menu?

As for the DDP ruining dining across the world. I totally disagree with that. I think Disney dumbed down the menus to make money, not because they were losing money on the DDP. As I said in my previous post, we usually paid for our dining plan, and 90% of our meals Disney made more money than they would have by us paying OOP. Now free dining may have contributed to the menu changes, but not the dining plan in general.

This was the quote that brought on my question. It was in the "free dining?" thread.....

"From what ive seen it looks like they are thinking of going to a set menu just for the ddp instead of being able to order anything off the menu you wanted and if you wanted something not listed it would be considered an add on. "

As of last week, DDP ordered like everybody else. The "separate menu" rumor is just that... A rumor. And one that's floated around for years.

Some places offer an all-inclusive menu, where you can get an app/dinner/dessert and have it count on the DDP, and those offerings are generally more limited then the regular menu, but they're not mandatory and they're not hugely widespread.

There are a few restaurants that have a prix fixe menu. If you have DDP & want to order that, there is a surcharge. I know Monsieur Paul is one of them, but I don't remember the others without looking it up. We don't use DDP, but I saw it discussed on the DIS recently.

Thank you! Glad to hear it is just a rumor. I haven't been on the boards since our last trip in 2010, and I hadn't seen that one before. I have seen the Prix fixe choices on the menu though. :)
