Sensor Cleaning Saga continues - you won't believe what happened

I am surprised Wolf would take 4 weeks, cleaning is fairly simple.

wolf/ritz is a large chain with few repair centers, ,, many repairs going to a few centers means a camera could sit for 3-5 weeks , while cameras received ahead of it are worked on..the standard time given to customers is 4-6 weeks, that way if the actual time is less customers are happy

That is exactly what they told me. 4 - 6 weeks.

OT -- But I sent in a cell phone for repair via UPS on Wednesday and received it back on Friday! I was told it would take 10 business days. Now that's service.

I've been following this thread and it's great you got a new camera. Now I have probably a stupid question. I have a Sony DSC-H5. Is it only DSLR's that will need sensor cleaning? I bought it last June and didn't get the extended warranty. Circuit City has sent me another opportunity to purchase it and I'm debating whether I should or not. I think it's probably a good idea but it doesn't cover accidental breakage. I have one on my camcorder where I can take it in for annual cleanings. Does the H5 need any preventative maintenance? (I know, another dumb question!)

Now I could be VERY wrong here - has happened in the past once or twice but I *think* that unless you change lenses your chances of getting dust/dirt on your sensor are pretty slim.... therefore you probably don't need to worry about that part of it.

I have never purchased an extended warranty on a camera in the past - until I got my first dSLR - but then again I never spent this kind of money on one either.

It really is a personal judgement call. How hard are you on your camera and if something happened to it -would it "hurt" to replace it?

I have only had to clean my sensor once and I did it myself with the proper tools. Swabs sealed indiviualy dust free and the special cleaning fluid.
I noticed three or four realy big spots on the first day of a WDW vacation and had nothing to clean them with!

Any zoom lens will move air in and out of the lens during movement. The chance of dust getting in depends on your environment. It would be good if there was a filter to catch any dust.
