I've read that a benefit of staying at the WDW resorts is that you can buy things in the parks and have them delivered to your room. Has anyone done this? I'm just wondering if it is a courtesy they offer, or if there is a charge for this. I'm thinking this would be neat for stuffed mickey's, t-shirts, etc.

We use this service all the time. It is free and the packages are usually at your resort gift shop ready for collection the next day.

They will leave a message on your resort telephone when the items are available to be picked up in the Gift Shop of your resort, usually the next afternoon. You will need to show your original receipt. This is a complimentary service for resort guests. You can not take advantage of it on the day before check out, because of the fact that it is not available at the resort until after noon the next day.

I love this benefit. We use it all the time as well. You don't have to worry about carrying your packages around, losing them, having them stolen etc. You don't have to worry about not buying something (because it is too heavy to carry around all day). You don't have to remember where you saw that special something and going back to buy it later. I believe they are delivered by 10 am the next day.

We do this every trip. I even send back small things like post cards and shot glasses for our collection so they don't get bent or break. Most of the CM's in the shops will ask if you want to use it. It is a great service!! :thumbsup2
We have never had any problems with it. When we first started going to WDW, they would deliver it right to your room, but the last couple of trips you have to pick it up in the resort's gift shop.

If you are staying concierge, they deliver it to your room. If the bed is made, they leave the bag (unopened) on your bed. Otherwise, they'll put it on a dresser or table or something.

If you are staying in a regular room, they are left at the gift shop. They'll leave you a voice mail on your room phone (the red light blinks when you have a message). They say you have to bring your receipt, but I lost one and they used my room key to identify me.

Downtown Disney, Epcot, MGM, and Animal Kingdom take 24 hours to deliver a bag. The Magic Kingdom, for some reason, says it takes 48 hours. Sometimes it DOES take 48 hours, sometimes it is 24.

If you want to have the store deliver it to package pick-up, you can pick up your bag when you leave the park. Never did that, don't know how it works.

OR, if you buy a bunch of stuff in one store, you can have it delivered to your home address. This actually works out well, because you don't have to pay tax, so the shipping charges are basically offset. They do an unbelievable job wrapping stuff. They used 12 feet of scushy-protective-wrap on one of my little tiny things I bought in Mexico.

Yes, I'm a PDS - Professional Disney Shopper! ;)

We returned last night after a great stay at the WL. We used this service for the first time this trip and really thought it was great. Just be sure to check your package when you pick it up. My DD bought a plastic picture holder of Tink and when we got back to the room, DD found that Tink had lost her head and a wing :(. The shop at the WL exchanged it no problem - thankfully they had one there, too :tink:. All the other times we used it all of our packages were just fine.

When I've gotten stuff delivered to my room (regular, not concierge), they've told me they can't guarantee it before 1 pm the next day.

I've also used this service and it is great. I bought my son a mini version of California Screamin' from the RNR giftshop and had it delivered to the resort. I told the CM it was a gift for my son and when I got the phone call that it was at the gift shop to be picked up, I found that the CM had wrapped the box in all black very nicely so that my son wouldn't be able to see what was in it.

Can they do this for the pictures and frames you buy at the rides? Like if you buy a splash mountain picture and frame. Our pics at DL got a little bent carting around all day.

Yup! :goodvibes

I wondered about this service. We're staying at the Pop and I'll have to remember this. It seems a lot better than trying to carry something all day or trying to remember where you saw something and going back to the place. :thumbsup2

This one of the things I LOVE about WDW! It's great just to have purchases sent back to your resort and not have to worry about carrying them around all day. I remember one trip when I didn't know about this wonderful perk...or they didn't have it yet...not sure which...but SO many times I would see things and think "Oh, I'll get it later, I don't want to lug it around all day." and then I either couldn't find it later, couldn't remember where I saw it or didn't feel like going back to wherever I saw it to buy it.

It's free and I don't think I've ever had to wait more than 24 hours for my stuff, even things from MK.

Another thing you can do, besides shipping your items home from the shops, is to ship items home from your resort gift shop. There is a fee for doing this, but it is very reasonable...it goes by the cost of the items, not the weight or size. This way, you can wait until you have all your loot, then decide what to ship home and send it all together and they do a VERY good packaging job.

On our girls only trip in October I was going to buy DH a bottle of wine in Italy at EPCOT only to find out that alcohol may not be sent to the hotel. It was still early in the day and I wasn't going to lug it around and end up breaking it before we got home. Unfortunately, DH didn't get his bottle of wine (late ADR in Norway and shops were closed when we were finished). We used it for many other items and it works like a dream. pixiedust:

No food can be shipped to the resort or to your home.
FYI

This service works well. We used it for our purchases at AK, MGM and DTD last Oct. We got everything back and in fine condition.

A word of caution: I stood in line for about an hour waiting to pick up our packages from the POR gift shop. It was the end of the day and everyone was exhausted and cranky, including the CMs. If you decide to use this service, I'd definately reccomend going to pick up your packages at an off-time when everyone is at the parks.

I too remember an issue with alcohol. They WILL ship it to the exit and you can pick it up on your way out but (please someone correct me if I'm wrong) they won't ship it to the International Gateway. :confused3
