My oldest enjoys the 2 movies and they don't annoy me that much, only after the bazillionth time they're on. Somewhere between the first & second movie I discovered they were originally books but paid no attention as at that time the first movie was 'ok' and she was younger. DD recently discovered this fact about the books and asked me for them. It was in between paydays so the answer was no, but I started reading the back.......

which brings me to my question-

Are the books really that shallow? The back of the book reads like it's a story about a bunch of shallow, stuck up, pretend to be who we're not just to fit in group of privaliged girls (except for the token 1 of course). Seems so opposite from what the movies portray. If the books are really that shallow DD can get it from the library where she gets her other 'brain candy' books. If they're not that shallow, are they well written? And by well written I mean, interesting plots that actually move the story along, not disjointed paragraphs & chapters that are difficult to follow, characters with depth and dimensions not just surface qualities, and decent grammar in the non conversation parts. (need not be perfect but a subject and a predicate as well as subject verb agreement in a sentence would be nice! lol)

And what happened to the 5th Cheetah? The book has 5, the movie has 4 and of course Raven is always to 'busy' to be a Cheetah unless it's a movie so Disney really only has 3..........

And since I'm going to be jumped on for the brain candy comment - DD is allowed to read brain candy. I just won't buy it with my money. She can buy it with her own but I prefer she not. She enjoys well written books like Harry Potter, Secret Garden, Eragon, Charlottes Web, A Wrinkle in Time, most Roald Dahl, the Little House series and says she can't get into the American Girl books because she likes the stories but they're 'simple' (her words). She's allowed free reign over her library books and what books she spends her money on. I don't say she has to get 1 of this 2 of that etc. She gets everything from novels she likes to non fiction to brain candy like W.I.T.C.H graphic novels or books, the annoying yet funny Junie B, the disjointed Time Warp Trio etc. There's nothing wrong with those books at all, they're entertaining and a fun, albeit short, distraction. We all need that occasionally.

But the question was - Are the Cheetah Girl books as shallow on the inside as they appear to be on the back cover?

My daughter loves the Cheetah Girls too but hasn't read the books. I know that they are in the Scholastic Book Orders that she brings home from school. I'm guessing if they're included in that, they can't be all bad, right? :confused3 Not award winning books for sure, but probably a fun read.
