Semi formal night dress

Is there is definite increase in "dressiness" for semi-formal night, or do most dress about the same as regular, casual nights? We were assuming that DH and DS would wear suits, but our dilemma is more with myself and my daughter. We have several dresses, but they seem to be more on one end or other of the "formal" spectrum -- fairly plain and casual or long and a bit flashier (ankle length, not with a train or anything!)

I would like to take the opportunity to step up and go with the more formal wear, but don't want to do so if most of the group will be back to wear khakis, polos, casual capris and tops.

Can someone tell me, if they recall, how the majority seemed to dress when semi-formal is the requested dress? (Are Mickey and Minnie out and about on formal night for pics and, if so, how are they dressed? That might give me a clue.)

Thank you!

We found that semi formal night was another occassion for everyone to put on their best outfits! Not many folk chose to wear their usual casual stuff. Nat:Pinkbounc

I think you would be fine in the dresses you described. Plenty on women had on dresses that could have been described as formal. I think you would fit in just great.

I was suprised/dissappointed in the lack of formal wear, compared to other cruise lines. One of my favorite thing to do is get all gussied up in my long new sparkly dress (usually a new one for each cruise), because there are so few occasions to do so in our lives. Anyhow, I was dissappointed in the fact that many women thought "Formal and Semi-Formal" meant sundresses, or a skirt and blouse. I have no complaints, would never put anyone down for how they are dressed, but, there were probably about 10 women that I saw on our cruise in "real formals" or even "really dressy dresses". Those that did looked spectacular, but we few were definitely in the minority! It was dissappointing more than anything.

On Semi-formal night, you could not even tell it was a special night. Mostly women in sundresses or skirts, men in khakis and polos.

On DCL, feel free to wear what makes you comfortable, everyone else does, I wore my long shiny dress.

You're never wrong for dressing more formally - go for it! :)

Just back from the May 1st Eastern Magic ...

Formal night ... the large majority of people seemed to be really dressed up ... some men in tuxedos, most in dark suits; ladies in everything from dressy evening gowns to cocktail dresses

Semi-formal night .... this night seemed to be a great mix from what i could tell ... a majority of the men were in dark suits, but there was more of a variety (more men in docker-type pants and button down shirts); the ladies and girls were certainly not as dressed up as on formal night ... some (including myself) were in cocktail dresses, a good number were in more casual sundresses

Wear what you want and what makes you most comfortable ... there will be people both more and less dressy than you are ... the range of clothing seen in the restaurants was amazing.
