I am selling a used car, book value is 3200. I am the second owner, bought it from the family of someone who has passed away. The previous owner kept meticulous records for repairs & service, oil change receipts etc etc. all the way back to point of sale, with original sales slip and window sticker. It will need rear brake pads soon, and the A/c has a leak, we disclosed all of this in our add, and asked 2500. Its a Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4wd, very nice. I will not be too sad if we keep it for another winter.

So last week a very nice woman came to see it (driving a Porshe SUV by the way) she was very sweet, told me she was looking for something for her teenager and wanted to know how low I would go on the price. I told her I would like 2500, but that I would consider any REASONABLE offer. She said she would call us, never did.

Now fast forward to creepy guy who has been leaving tons of messages for weeks about wanting to see the Jeep. On two occasions he has stood me up for an appointment to see it, and I had decided I was done with him and I stopped returning his phone calls. He started calling several times a day. This past weekend he called at 8am on saturday, waking us up. We let the machine get it. He called all day, up until 11pm. His last message was " I am ready to purchase your Jeep tomorrow" which seemed odd to me, since he had never seen it. He may have driven by it. Now Sunday morning the phone rings at 730 am, he leaves a message, saying he wants to buy the Jeep, he will pay cash, and he wants to see it asap. Now I wanted NO PART of this. I had planned to ignore him. My DF called him back, they arranged for us to go by his "work" to show it immediately.

We get there, he has a Jeep same model, same year, different color. He is in the process of opening a business, a corner store and pizza/sub shop. He offers me 1300 bucks, I laughed and started to leave. Then he offered 1000 and asked me to "finance the rest and he would pay 50 /month" I said no way, and left. I was pissed, he had woken me up all weekend, and then gave an insulting offer. When we get home there are ALREADY 3 messages from him. He is now offering 2k, and will pay cash. I tell my DF not to call him back. My DF wants to sell the Jeep and be done with it, so he calls the guy. The guy explains to my DF that he is interested primarily in all of the records and repairs etc, and that he needs all of this for his business.???? We are not sure what he is up to,but some sort of tax scam or something. ANywho, they plan to meet at 3pm to sell him the Jeep. I print out a bill of sale, plan to sell Jeep "as is" cuz I dont trust this guy. We wash the jeep, vacuum it, armor all, it is now sparkling clean. Meanwhile Porshe SUV lady calls and asks if th Jeep is still available. I tell her I am sorry but it is not. She asks how much we sold it for (weird) and I told her "a reasonable offer" Then guy DOES NOT SHOW and DOES NOT CALL. We call him sevl times, and do not hear back. So now I am pissed because maybe she would have bought it. I go to call her back and realize, they have the SAME PHONE NUMBER. WTH are these two trying to pull? !!!!!!!

I am SO done with this creep. But he has started calling again with force. My answering machine and cell phone mailboxes are full and its only 10am. I think I need to change my phone number. DF thinks we should sell it to him and "be done with it" . I think selling this guy anything is a bad idea, and I want to be rid of him. I really wish we had not given him our cell and home number. I left him a message telling him the deal is off and DO NOT CALL ME EVER AGAIN. He is still calling and calling I think I might call the police.

Never selling a used car again. Def not calling this guy back ever. Will not be ordering any pizza or subs from this jerk. Just needed to vent, the constant phone ringing is making me beserk.

that definitely sounds creepy and I don't blame you for wanting nothing to do with it. I can't figure out what they are trying to pull but I would call the whole thing off too. Maybe call the guy back (or have your df do it)and tell him that it's already sold to someone else and to stop calling immediately or else you will have to file charges for harrasment. Weird.

That is super creepy! I wouldn't want anything to do with that crazy guy either. It can't hurt to call the police, especially if you still have all of his weird messages on your voice mail or answering machine. I hope he gives up soon and stops bothering you.

I think I would definitely be calling the police, that is terrifying!! :scared1:

I would not be selling him your car. Tell your DF in no uncertain terms that you will not be selling this car to this man.

Yikes!:scared1:

I would make a police report out. They know where you live if the lady driving the Porshe was already by. They sound like a couple of  people!

If you sold to them, you still wouldn't hear the end of them!

TC:cool1:

DF is now in agreement that these two will not be buying the Jeep. He just called both their business and their cell to tell them the Jeep is off the market and we are not selling it (since we know they can drive by and see it) .He also said if they call again we will be calling the police.

So they are getting voicemails, they better go away!!!!!! I am calling the police anyway to let them know what is going on.

Tuffcookie-I agree, I do not want to deal with these two every time they need a repair or something!

I woul definately fill out a police report. Sounds like 2 scam artists. A similar thing happened to my aunt and uncle. A lady came by claiming to be a cop and demanding that they lower the price and claiming they were reasonable for getting the car to her house, etc.....turns out the police were watching this (not police) women for scamming people.

I have to say, it has gotten me curious. I really do want to know what they are up to. lol.

I don't know where you live but you may want check to see if there is a lemon law that also covers privates sales. If so, that would be another reason not to trust this guy.

Form the MA lemon law

The Used Vehicle Warranty Law requires private party sellers to inform buyers about any and all known defects which impair the safety or substantially impair the use of the vehicle. The law applies to all private party sales regardless of sales price or mileage. If you discover a defect that impairs the vehicle’s safety or substantially impairs the use, and can prove that the seller knew about the defect but failed to disclose it, you may cancel the sale within thirty days of purchase. The seller must refund the amount you paid for the vehicle, less 15 cents per mile of use.

I wonder whether the laredo is on the clunkers list and they are looking for a car to trade in for $4500 toward a new car. Is that possible?
