Selling My DVC

I agree, but I think most want 1 beds in the fall season when it’s much cheaper points-wise, and I don’t imagine availability is as good then.
Its not as good, but still pretty good. Still lots of choice.

The buy where you want to stay mantra is stated all the time, but not necessarily a good idea for 1 bed people. In summer you can often even get AKV value.
Agreed. We've seen it on here for years, comments that the only available room at different resorts was a 1BR. That is not good for studio people, but if you are a 1BR family with any amount of flexibility at all then the traditional strategies espoused on these forums do not really apply.

This may be an unpopular opinion but wanted to share my thoughts and maybe hear a few of yours.

We have decided to sell our DVC contract for a few reasons. Not because we don’t love Disney and DVC but we want to buy in to a different home resort via resale market. When we bought in we purchased direct (financed) and granted we took a few trips from it but after reevaluating we decided it’s best to sell and buy a larger resale contract at a resort that could bring us more value. Thankfully we will not end up upside with this sale and will profit just a bit. The new resale restrictions don't bother me and loosing the perks of being a direct member don't really bother me to much either.

However will wait a little while before buying a new contract again.

We now want to focus more on traveling to international Disney destinations. This summer we are visiting Tokyo and Shanghai and look to do DCL, Aulani, and Hong Kong next year.

Again - no hate towards our DVC or WDW. We just bought at the wrong time and really wish we did more research when we purchased.

Has anyone here sold their DVC contract and purchased a new home they really loved more?

I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts and feel free to ask any questions :)
Well said. Slow down and take your time. Our closest international travel is having Chinese food from the restaurant down the street... Lol. Good for you.

So true! Thank you for validating what I've been concluding as a newbie member.

OP can get a lot more points cashing out at the Poly and using that money on an AKL resale. Even if 1BR AKL is available, I think it still makes sense for them to sell and buy at AKL.

PS. We just did an add on at AKL. Love it there!

I have sold and then bought again a few times. We bought in first via resale in 2009. It allowed us to the buy BLT when it first went for sale with less points as we were current owners. I then ended up buying BWV via resale and sold off some BLT to offset the cost. When I stayed st VGF I wanted that and sold the rest of my BLT to help. In all cases, I was able to break even and even turn a profit for the sales. The last time was 2 years ago when I sold VGF to put toward the purchase of 500 SSR points because I knew is was retiring in 2019 and wanted to visit monthly. So it probably isn’t a traditional way of most, but I wanted to have what made the best sense for me and in 10 years, our needs and wants changed. So I altered my DVC ownership to best meet my needs!

I did the same - I sold my Saratoga Springs contract a couple of years ago and bought BLT (direct) and AKV (resale). And I now have 3 other resale purchases in the works (BWV and and 2 for Aulani). I liked Saratoga Springs but didn't love it. I always thought in a perfect world I would want to own at Boardwalk and Bay Lake Tower (b/c of the ability to walk to the parks) and Animal Kingdom (hands down my fav). So that's what I set out to do. In addition I stayed at Aulani this year and LOVED it and since we go to Hawaii fairly often, I decided to purchase there as well. I'm very happy with my decisions.

We originally bought AKV through direct sales we quickly realized we like to go to the Epcot festivals and couldn't get rooms at 7 months out so we sold and bought a loaded resale contract for BWV it was the best decision we made! we then added a small 50 pt resale contract at OKW didn't get the same UY but haven't had any problems managing the 2 contracts these are 2 of our favorite resorts I'd like a BLT but we'll be moving west next year so won't be able to go as often.
