Selling higher end items?

I have a couple of higher end purses that I need to sell, I just don't know what the best way would be. Ebay comes to mind, but I've heard horror stories about sellers being ripped off by buyers claiming the item was damaged or lost in shipping. Plus if it doesn't sell I'm out the fees, right? It's been years since I've been on ebay. Are there any other credible sites?

Guess it depends on your definition of high end. I've sold several better bags - Louis Vuitton, Coach, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs - without a problem. I do only sell within the US, though.

I document everything...multiple photos on the auction listing, plus photos of the item as I'm wrapping it for shipping. I always use insurance for anything I'm selling over $200, and always require a signature upon delivery.

As far as fees go, I'll list the item at auction once (with a reserve), and re-list it for free if it doesn't sell. If it still hasn't sold after that, I set a flat price under a Buy It Now listing. For the most part, the items sold within 60 days.

The fees don't really bother me, because I look at it as if it's found money, for things that I no longer use.

Best of luck if you decide to go the eBay route.

I have 2 LV purses that I had planned on putting up on Ebay but I first thought I would try to sell a watch . Yes a watch : ( So needless to say my Tag Heuer watch sold but I am waiting on payment and Ebay wont help me till Sunday because they gave the bidder who had 0 feedback a week to reply after the 24 hour deadline for payment. I have to pay fees if I relist it before the week she got . Maybe I misunderstood them but I think that is what they were saying .
I didnt put a reserve on the watch and she got it for 700.00 so maybe it just wasnt meant to be . I felt like I should have gotten more for it anyway .

I am not a regular seller on EBay so maybe I need to learn a lot more before listing anything else . But those purses will be going to the shop LOL::yes::

FYI- You can usually talk the consignment shop into a better split on higher end handbags. They may initially try to get 50%, ask if they can do better. You can also try craigslist.

Ok you will have to open a case in the resolution center to get your final value fees back. They could be as much as 10% of the selling price. Open the case now. By any chance were there other bidders? If there were you could offer a "second chance offer" to other bidders. Pm me if you would like more help. I have been successfully selling high end handbags and designer items for 7 years on eBay.

It is very difficult for new sellers to sell items that are highly replicated. If I were in the market for high end designer items feedback would be a huge factor for me. I would check your history and if there were no designer previous listings I would not buy from you. It is hard to make a name for yourself. In addition as pp have said. There are many scams dealing with Louis Vuitton handbags in particular. Be very careful and follow all the rules with PayPal or you may not be covered.

I agree with everything everyone else has said. But I also wanted to add that you can set your seller preferences to not accept bids from sellers with zero or negative feedback. I think the option is right there on the sell your item page.

Thanks for all the advice. The brands of the bags are Chloe and Coach, I think I may look in to consignment stores to see what options I have there. I am not new to ebay, I think I had my 10 year anniversary last year?? But I do not sell often, and never anything that I felt I had to insure. I may still investigate that route but I do understand buyers being leery of someone suddenly selling expensive bags, regardless of having perfect feedback.

I have sold Coach, Louis Vuitton, Dooney & Burke. Each sold for several hundred. Now this was a few years ago---there is definitely more glut on ebay these days.
Scroll through what is on now & see if it is worth it.
I hit Coach's outlet store last January & picked up a $400 bag for $100...I was thinking I could hit the store twice a year & sell them on ebay. Nope, prices just aren't what they used to be:confused3
I did get some grief from ebay about an LV wallet...somehow they tagged it as counterfeit. I found that weird--I had sold a few things before, and only sold a few bags, all different brands, all used. I had to state my case about where & when I bought it (receipt long gone) & they did let me relist. I get it if you have a new seller who is suddenly selling a ton of designer bags...but, c'mon...

There are some reputable online consignment stores that sell high end items. Maybe contact them? I think ebay could would be a hassle if you don't usually sell those items there. You could end up with a scammer saying its a fake and returning a fake while keeping the real one. You could also end up with people afraid to bid because they don't want to end up with a fake. A consignment with a good reputation for authenticating such items might be a better choice.

I opened the case like you said . THANK YOU ! I may have questions for you as it goes on . Thanks again for the help .

Thanks for all the advice. The brands of the bags are Chloe and Coach,
I wouldn't bother trying to sell the Coach bag unless it is a hard to find bag or vintage. It also matters if it is an made for outlet Coach or a full retail bag.

The Chloe bag may sell as long as you have clear pictures and the condition is like new.

Designer bags sell better when you are very clear in the description. Use the bag name and color in the title.

Don't overprice your item. If it is in GUC you can't expect more than maybe 30% of the original purchase price, less if it is an off seasonal color.

But I also wanted to add that you can set your seller preferences to not accept bids from sellers with zero or negative feedback. I think the option is right there on the sell your item page.

Not true. There are no blocks for zero feedback buyers. You can set your preferences for buyers who have received a certain number of strikes against them within a certain amount of time but there is no way to block someone without any feedback.

Actually, it is true. These are the blocks I have on my account:

Block buyers who:

Don't have a PayPal account
Have received 2 Unpaid item Strike(s) within 6 month(s)
Have a primary shipping address in countries that I don't ship to
Have 4 Policy violation report(s) within 6 month(s)
Have a feedback score equal to or lower than -1

I'm pretty sure zero falls into the 'lower than 1' category.

It isn't "lower than 1" it is "lower than negative one". So essentially someone who has no positive feedback and negative feedback. So actually zero is the larger number

The other snag you might run into with selling designer goods on ebay is restrictions on your account relating to how many designer items you can have listed at a time and Pay Pal holding your money until after the buyer receives the item or leaves feedback.

I'd look into a local consignment shop, especially one that swaps!
