Sell me on RV camping in FW! Dec. 8-18th! Is that time still good for crowds?

I'm a VWL lover who has just booked 10 nights at FW. I just got off the phone from upgrading to a preferred site.

I'm nervous about this, as we've never RV camped with the kids (but our kids are super-outdoorsy and tend to dig adventure.) We're staying 10 nights. I have no idea what I'm getting into...any suggestions? Even though we've stayed 8 nights before, for some reason 10 at FW doesn't seem like enough to me.

Sell me on this! That's a good week for crowds, yes? Pleasant weather?

I'm really excited but really nervous too. I have researched the heck out of WDW, but not FW. Are showers nearby? What are good sites?

Thanks!

No guarantee on the weather! Plan on dressing in layers. It can be quite warm during the day and pleasant in the evening, or it can be quite nippy--possibly even rain! I've visited WDW from early December through mid-December a couple of times, and that's what the weather did!

I understand the parks are busier than previously, but I found this a good time to visit WDW. We'll be visiting December 7th through December 17th this year.

I haven't visited Fort Wilderness since 1981! Can't help you with that!

If your kids are outdoorsy, they will love the fort. There is so much to do. Swim (if it's warm enough), biking, fishing, renting a canoe or a boat, the sing-a-long campfire and movie. They definately will not be bored. Our kids, not really kids anymore, 17 & 21 love the fort and have since they were younguns. You will have a great time.

The comfort stations(bath houses) are located in most loops, some loops do share, and are convient to most sites. What type of RV will you be using, sometimes I will just use the shower in my TT, but most times prefer the unlimited hot water the the comfort stations seem to have.

Sorry no offense, but it is hard for me to imagine someone having to sell me on going to the Fort. If someone told me I was going to get to go for 10 days I would be dancing :cool1: woohoo-ing :woohoo: all the way.

Fort Wilderness is so much fun and lotts to do! We have a fw and I still use the comfort stations they are very clean. We went in 2005 and 2006 in early December and the weather was plesant during the day and could be realy chilly at night. I like that time of the year because camper are decorated for Christmas and the crowds in the park are low. What are you campimg in? Fort Wilderness to me is so much fun, If you have down days you can really relax around the Fort or there is always something you can do! I hope you all have fun!

FW is a great place. I wish I could get away for 10 days! During early December be sure to walk/ride around all of the campsite loops. Many of the campers decorate their sites for Christmas. Some go all out! Also be sure to check out the campfire movie/sing along. Even when we don't stay at FW we try to get over for this activity. We'll roast marshmellow, while others even roast hot dogs followed by the sing along, and then the movie. Have a great time at the Fort!

Great time of year to go...not too hot, but it can change from day to day. Comfort stations are CLEAN. Watch the fireworks from the beach. Ride the boat over to CR, WL or MK. Listen to the boat whistle in the early am and get excited about going to the theme parks. FW has so much to offer in itself...enjoy yourself and make a memory those kids will never forget! :goodvibes

Oh my goodness, I am so very excited! Our kids are little (6 and 3) but SO adventurous and they just love the outdoors. They're very outgoing (the types of kids who take over the mike at weddings) so I think they'll love the singalong, and I can just imagine them walking around the campgrounds with a cheery hello for everyone they meet. And the bunnies at their doorstep...if a bunny shows up on my kids' doorstep they're going to think they are in heaven. :)

Thanks for the good sell! 10 nights it is! :) YAY!

Maybe a bunny...or maybe an armadillo on your doorstep! You might even spot a deer! Have a great time.

We Love That Time OF Year And Will Be There December 6-16.

Don't miss the gingerbread house and fantastic decorations at the Grand Floridian. All of the resorts have great decorations, but your kids will love the gingerbread stuff. As others have posted, be prepared for any kind of weather. The swimming pool is heated!

Once you've stayed at FW, you will never be totally satisfied with any other campground ! :cloud9:

It is awesome! :thumbsup2 We went last year Dec 10-16 and this year will be going the
7th-14th. We had a great time. Fort Wilderness is fantastic. The decorations are beautiful. The crowds were low. The weather was comfortable. I can't wait!
I have the feeling we will be making this an annual tradition.
Have fun. Wish I could spend 10 days down there. Someday.

Excellent! We went ahead and booked a second site so we can have some friends and family join in the fun! This is going to be like camp, only with my family and best friends! YAY!!!!!!!

Good for you! It will be fun!

Our season passes start on January 27, 2008 and we are staying ten days. Our second planned trip is sometime around the first of December. Then we're heading back a month later in January '09 again before the passes run out.

The first half of December should be spectacular.:thumbsup2

December is the best time to go. It's cheaper (not including christmas week -OUCH!) FW is the most beautiful b/c most have decorated their site (from tablecloths to blow up mickey's). the crowd's a bareable b/c you aren't dying from heat exhaustion. Take advantage of extra magical hrs. if it get too busy. Watch the electrical water pagent and fireworks on Bay lake. Take a golf cart for a spin or your bike around the loops to see the decorations-bring camera. Resort hop to see more decorations like the gingerbread house mentioned. The Grand Floridian has cheatnuts roasting on an open fire you can try (not my thing but for some it could be). DTD shopping and eating.

I only wish we could go this yr. the kids don't get out for Christmas break until the 20th which is when it's expensive. So we booked for 1/2-1/6 2008-but we're going. Ok, now I'm looking forward to our week in Aug. at the ft. when it's HOT! I'll think December while I'm their maybe it will help-HA!:goodvibes
