We will be taking our parents in law to disney on our next trip (oct 2016). Now somehow i can't help thinking that staying at the gvf will blow them away. We're bwv owners though and absolutely love our home resort. The main things i love about it are the green and calm grounds (would be the same at gfv i guess), the location (but gfv has mk), the community centre ( does gfv have a nice one?) and i like the slide (does gfv have a wet play area? The one with alice, no?). Most important thing though is to keep ds 6 and ds1 happy :-) can you sell me a stay at gfv? :-)

The VGF building is very small, next door to wet play area. I don't think that there is an activity room. Grounds are beautiful, GF is Disney's flagship resort so you know that GF/VGF is first rate.

Be prepared to buy an add-on for your MK vacations.

My kids (5 & 2) love the Mad Hatter kids water play area. It's a bit intense for them because the big bucket of water is a really big splash. There's also a big slide right next to it that backs up to the villas. We have not been daring enough to go on it. My son has gone on the BWV clown slide before, but the mountain one was more intimidating for him. I don't believe there's a community hall. There's nothing on the activity sheet with info on it. They do still have a pool party.

We own at both and stay at both. The VGF rooms are beautiful and the resort is nice. Distance to MK is a plus for MK days. The biggest drawback of VGF is the best part of BWV - no boardwalk :)

No Community Hall at VGF. You would have to go to BLT which IMO is not as good as the one at BWV.

I am in the same spot. I am a BWV owner who loves it. I've always said the only place that would make me want to give up my BWV is GF. Now that it's here, the economics don't make sense. So buying points is out of the question (I bought BWV at $65 in 1999), plus the points per night is really high. But I will try to get in at 7 months every so often. Got a studio last May, loved it (3 adults)! The room was beautiful, the grounds are beautiful, we had a nice lake view with a fireworks view. Being close to MK is nice, although I think the walk to the monorail or bus stop is farther than I expected it, not much different than a BWV room at the end of the hall. We didn't use the pool, don't have kids but the play area looked fun when we walked by.

You don't give up BWV, you add VGF for your MK vacations and use BWV for your Epcot/DHS vacations. Switching every other year allows you to buy half of the points required or buy the full amount and rent them out to help with your dues.

Not happening. I'm 55 and bought the house of my dreams 2 1/2 years ago. I'm trying to get that paid off before retirement (and hoping not to have to work past 65). Not buying more points, especially for twice as much as I paid for BWV.

I applaud you for your plan. For some staying at the resort of their dreams guaranteed is as important as paying off the house.

I'll roll the dice at 7 months. So far I have stayed at every WDW and DL DVC except SSR (which I have no interest in). Never had a problem at 7 months, although my non-BWV stays are usually in the spring. Got VGC 4 times, May & September studios, 2 August 1 bedrooms week before D23 in 2013 and 2015.

janischa, you mention that you intend to go in October 2016. Just be aware that it is unlikely that you will find a studio or 1BR open at 7 months out at VGF in Oct, absent trying wait list, and even dedicated 2BRs may have some issues, at least for some dates (e.g., for Oct of this year, for which we are now 7 1/2 months out, studios are already almost completely gone for the month, 1BRs are going for substabtial part of the month and even 2BRs are gone at a key time like Columbus Day weekend). Also, BWV including pool/garden view can fill before 7 months out for much of Oct (for 2015 most time is gone already) and thus you should plan on making an 11 month reservation at your home resort and then try to switch at 7 months out.
