I am going to DL in December with friends. The guys are considering the segway tour, has anyone done this? What do you think? One of the guys has cancer and is low on energy, will this be a problem?

From the Cruzin' CA page on disneyland.com:

All Guests Must Be:

* At least 16 years old.
* Accompanied by a parent or legal guardian if under 18 years old.
* Between 100 and 250 pounds in weight.
* Able to maintain lateral — side to side — balance.
* Able to safely step on and off the Segway® Personal Transporter.
* Able to comply with all instructions and warnings.

I haven't been on a Segway but I've read about it, and it uses your "core" muscles to control, basically. I've read that people don't realize how tiring it is, especially in the feet area.

So if your friend is so low on energy that he won't be able to keep himself balanced, or it might exhaust him to be using his muscles like that, he might want to skip it.

We did the segway tour in August and it is great fun. However it does make your feet hurt. You have regular stops to step off and rest, but we needed to have a longer rest once we had done as our feet were really aching. We have done several segway tours now and this always happens. If your friend is low on energy he might want to skip it. Having said that, throughout the tour there is always the option of dropping out if you need to.

I did the Segway in EPCOT and it was a breeze. I did not experience the same "foot ache" as Danauk. My guess it that it depends on the individual and how much standing I one spot they can do at a time. That type of body dynamic is different, as standing in one spot varies greatly on the muscle groups used vs. walking for the same duration of time.

My advice would be to go into Innoventions on the 2nd floor and have your friend do the Segway trial experience there. They let you stand on it and you take it for a spin around a small course set up in a 70x40 foot area. It's a good way to get a feel for what the vehicle does and then you can decide from there.
