I have my AAA trip tik that I got online, but I'm looking for some real world, been there/done that advice here -- like info on where to stop on Friday to spend the night, how often and where to stop on the rest of the trip to Orlando on Saturday with kids this age, etc.!
I will be traveling with my two sons (7 and 2) to Orlando for Spring Break, meeting up with my 17 yo niece in Nashville on a Friday evening about 7 pm Central. The goal was to continue driving to somewhere near Chattanooga that night so that we could start out fresh Saturday morning and drive through mountains (want the boys to "see" the mountains) and then get to Orlando by Saturday evening.
This will be the 9th trip to WDW for the 7 yo and the 4th trip for the 2 yo, but all have been flying - until now. So I know we'll need to stock up on Redbox videos, have plenty of snacks handy in the car, etc. But I'm still trying to figure out the best plan of attack on the logistics of the travel.
How bad is the traffic along I75 during Spring Break? We'll be going through Atlanta on a Saturday on the way down and a Sunday on the way back. I'm guessing that doing this on a weekend makes it easier to get through downtown Atlanta? (My thought is just to take the HOV lane and "go for it".)
Should I stop every 2 to 3 hours to let them move around a bit to try to avoid meltdowns or brotherly squabbles or press on longer at a time to get there sooner?
Thank you!
