Seeking opinion-what to do with a reservation I can't use

I just found out we will not be able to use a reservation for a 2 bedroom this summer, due to a scheduled surgery. These are banked points (190) and from a search of availability, I won't be able to use these points before my use year expires (October use year). I reached out to one of the rental places when surgery was just a possibility, and was told 2 bedrooms don't typically rent well. Have you had any experiences successfully renting out a reservation for a 2 bedroom. (I'm not including the specifics as I'm not seeking renters here, and didn't want to violate the rules).

You can cancel the 2br reservation, then rent the points out for whatever is available between now and September 30th...either through this board or through one of the rental agencies.

I would cancel the reservation and rent your points. There appears to be plenty of availability for studios in July-September at SSR. You can either grab a reservation or two using your points and rent them or you can rent offer to book people reservations using your points here or on Facebook. One of the rental agencies might also be able to help you find a renter or two.

Offer both your 2 bedroom reservation and the points from it as rental. No reason to cancel the current reservation until you need the points for a different reservation. If you can replace the your 2 bedroom reservation with weekend studio reservations they might rent faster.

If it doesn't rent and you can't use it, it would be so nice if you could gift it to a family in need. Since it's summertime, the kids will be out of school. Perhaps you'd need to get someone like a pastor or a school counselor involved. It probably wouldn't work out, but it's better than having the reservation go unused.

Don't wait too long to pivot and rent the points for new reservations. Availability for studios over the summer and before your points expire will dry up if you drag your feet too long. You could be stuck with points you will not be able to rent.

I am curious if who you listed with required a specific time contract or can you rent out the points for smaller reservations whenever you like?

Inventory is nonexistent even into end of September, I bet you will get a taker quickly. Good luck

I just listed the reservation I had, had to send them a screenshot of the confirmation. I did it Friday, hoping they have it listed by Monday morning.

I’m curious - are you also putting the equivalent number of points out for rent with an agency? Seems like why not, as flexible points may rent out faster. You can of course cancel the room and use the points if you get a taker.

I wouldn’t cancel the 2 bed yet until the 31 day mark. Just list points, then modify if someone bites.

Personally, I would love a 2bd during the summer depending on the price…. I would invite family….
