See you @@ the Finish Line- Our Dark Side Half Marathon Weekend Adventure

After the Star Wars parade we looked to see what fastpasses we could get next. There wasn't many left so we went with the Muppets, which probably didn't even need a fastpass anyway. There's not much to say about the Muppet show other than it's cute but I think it should be updated. I remember seeing that same show when I was in middle school. (ok I'm feeling old now)

When Muppets was over Killian and Becky had to rush over to Jedi training. Liam and I went back to the ABC Commissary for dinner. Since I was racing the next day I went with the kid's BBQ chicken (hold the sauce) and green beans and Liam got the salmon. That kid is a sucker for seafood. When we were done Liam and I went to the Jedi Temple to grab a spot to watch Killian. After Becky came over she took my spot with Liam and I went to sit down. I was trying to save my legs for the next day. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures and I didn't see any of Killian on my photopass for Jedi training when I put in the card code.

Then we walked by the meet and greet for Mickey and Minnie so we decided it was a good time to stop. The line was so slow moving but totally worth it. First we saw Minnie
minnie.jpg

And then we went down the hall to see Mickey. While we were waiting the kids in front of us were being a little rowdy. They were maybe 5 & 7 and the cast member even asked them to calm down more than once. They finally went in for their turn and we moved into their spot. Then we heard "Don't kick Mickey" and "No don't hurt him." When they left Mickey had to take a break with all of his helpers and we were left wonder what the heck just happened?! Thankfully a couple minutes later Mickey returned and we were able to meet him

mickey book.jpg mickey hug.jpg

After that meeting we had some time to kill before Fantasmic so we ran back over to the Launch Bay to meet BB8.

BB8.jpg

BB8 was very worried about Liam's hat. He liked Killian's until he saw his medal. Then he worried about Killian. We were able to convince him that we were rebel spies so he was ok with us. I loved meeting BB8 he was much more interactive than I thought.

It was almost time for Fantasmic but Becky and Killian hadn't eaten yet so they went in search of food and Liam and I went in search of souvenirs for the kids back home. Outside of the store Liam saw some suitcases and asked me to take his picture.
suitcases.jpg

We all met back up and headed to Fantasmic. We had snagged some fastpasses after Muppets so we found the entrance and made our way in. The whole day we debated on Fantasmic or Star Wars fireworks. There was even some crazy talk of trying to do both. We ultimately decided on Fantasmic because Mickey!! Our seats were in the back all the way on the left side. They weren't bad for getting there so late. After the show Becky decided to take the boys to MK via the Express bus. I walked them over to the stop and they made it just in time for the last bus out. I made the responsible decision to go back to the room to get some sleep for the race.

Traffic out of HS that night was insane and I didn't get back to the room until after 10. I set out all my stuff for the race the next morning and tried to sleep. It wasn't too much later when the gang made it back. They said they had a great time at MK and they were glad they went.

Up next: Maintaining a Legacy

So, I LOVE all the pics of Liam in this last post. Insane to think he was thinking of heading back to the hotel for a bit...like most of the day lol! He looks just simply happy. I had so much fun taking those boys around MK. We rode four FP+ rides plus Peoplemover and a little Incredibles! Dance Party action in the 75 or so min we were there. WINNING. The final ride was Jungle Cruise and the Skipper was awesome. We got to sit right by her and she couldn't stop laughing about our shirts, @MommaoffherRocker. The boys were calling out the answers to her puns, but she would always change the answers so they weren't always right! The Kiss Goodnight pics turned out awesome! I'll have to text you some Jedi pictures, can't believe PhotoPass didn't get him (:sad2:)

I forgot about that, he wasn't feeling good that day. I think he was just tired but I am glad he stuck it out, he had so much fun that day.

Love your shirts! Great photos with Mickey and BB8!
Thanks!!

Race day

After 2ish hours of sleep my alarm went off. I quietly got ready and as I was leaving Becky wished me luck. Thankfully our room was right outside of the bus stop at CBR so I didn't have far to walk that morning. I was the first one at the stop but was quickly joined by other runners. About 10 minutes later the bus came and I was on my way to the starting area for the half, the TTC parking lot.

I put together a meet up for the Dis so when I got off the bus I headed straight to the spot I had picked out, I had made a sign that read "DIS" to make it easy for the others to find me. I stood there for about 10 minutes before @MissLiss279 came up. I was happy to see her, I was getting worried that no one was going to show up. There was no need to worry because we had a good turn out. @MRL214 stopped by to say hi for a minute and then @opusone @cavepig @croach @Mimsy Borogove & @mrsg00fy all showed up :) (I think I got everyone but if I missed someone I am sorry!)
I love Dis meetups the conversation is always great and it helps keep me from getting nervous. After a while everyone left for their corrals and @mrsg00fy stayed and hung out with me for a while. We talked until the race started, said our goodbyes and then headed to our corrals.

I was in the monster corral, F. It was pretty ridiculous. I didn't want to stress about where I was at in the corral because this was a fun run for me so I stayed towards the back. RunDisney did a great job with start of this race, the fireworks were the best starting fireworks I have seen and the announcers were entertaining.

I ended up starting in F6. It seemed like in no time the announcers were counting us down and we were off into the night.

-Continued next post-

As I mentioned in the last post the plan for this half was FUN!! I had a half two weeks later that was my goal race and I really wasn't suppose to be running this one. But how could I pass up legacy status?! As everyone at the meetup knows my goal for this race was EWOKS!!! They were out at the 5k and I passed them up. I had heard they were not out at the half but I held out hope that they were going to be there.

The first mile was dark, extremely dark. The course went out of the TTC parking lot and headed towards World drive. Then we made a slight turn and I saw the first character stop, R2D2. I thought about stopping but it was still early in the race and I have a picture with him from the Force Awakens opening night event at DS so I kept on. We passed the gas station and then mile 1. Around that time some major fireworks went off and I thought that was the last corral going off. So I made a mental note that I was probably 15 minutes ahead of them. Then I did some calculations and figured if I stayed on pace by the end I would be 45 minutes ahead of the balloon ladies. That was a good chunk of time so I would comfortable with stopping as I wanted/needed to.

I made my way on to Bear Island and the sun was starting to come up. Then I heard blasts and started seeing lasers and explosions off in the woods. It took me a minute but it came to me that this was the battle scene from Endor!! How cool was that! Then I got really excited because that meant Ewok right?! Sadly I didn't see any around. I thought they had missed this opportunity but I kept going. A little while later I saw a line of runners. I ran passed them and looked over and there they were the EWOKS!! Heck yeah! I jumped in line. I don't normally stop for characters at races because I have always been afraid of being swept but today I was confident that I was not getting swept. The line felt like an eternity but I timed it and I spent 5 minutes waiting so not bad at all.

Ewoks.jpg

The next couple of miles were uneventful. The course was pretty much the back of the marathon that I had run in January which was nice because I knew the course. There were a couple of pace groups on the course that I played leapfrog with for what felt like an hour because of their run/walk intervals but I finally got rid of them right before AK. I noticed they had set up the trash compactor scene out on the backside of AK and I thought about stopping but I didn't want to take that picture by myself so I didn't stop. Because I knew the course I planned a bathroom break at the real bathrooms in AK, right before EE. After that I got back on course and before I knew it we were out of AK. In the backstage area there were some people from the 501st that you could stop and take pictures with. I was tempted but decided against it and kept on. I really want to stop for the red Storm Trooper I had seen the year before and I was hoping since he wasn't there he would be else where on the course.

In the parking lot they had the other scene setup that I saw last year, the Wampa cave. I really wanted to stop for that one but the line was soooo long. I had already lost 15 minutes from ewoks and a bathroom break so I let my nerves get the best of me and I kept going. The next couple highway miles were also pretty uneventful. I saw some people wearing some Maryland flag running gear so I chatted with them for a minute since I am a fellow Marylander and that was where my half was going to be 2 weeks later. By then the course was feeling very crowded and narrow. They did have screens set up along the route that played scenes from the movies and that was a nice distraction.

At mile 9 the course went up a ramp and onto Buena Vista Dr. we were approaching HS. That is when I ran into them again, another pace group. I don't know if it was the same one from before or if I had come up on another one but this one seemed even bigger. The course was coned off to one lane and traffic was going by like normal on the other side of the cones. The group took up the whole lane and there was no passing them. Some people did try but I didn't want to risk going out in traffic just to save a few minutes. I was stuck but thankfully I was not running for time so I waited until the course opened back up and then I passed them. I ran into HS and up the hill by Fantasmic. During the marathon they gave out delicious chocolate at the top of that hill but sadly they don't do that for half marathons. They also had the 501st out at that spot last year but they also were not there :( I was sad because I thought that meant there was not going to be anymore on the course. Then in a blink of an eye I was out of HS. But photopass did get manage to get a picture of me

half HS.jpg

Next it was along the canal between the Boardwalk and HS. So crowded!! This time we got to go around the Boardwalk to the right instead of the left, this was the first time I got to run it that way. Almost at the end of the boards I noticed some more 501st people!!! I was so excited, especially because there was the red Storm Trooper

redblack.jpg

I snagged this selfie with him and the black one that were standing there.

Then I took a selfie with the Tie Fighter pilot

tiefighter.jpg

They were all so awesome. I thanked them a thousand times and kept moving. About then I got a text from Becky that they were on there way but I told them not to worry about it because I was so close to the finish line and I didn't think they would get to there on time. So she agreed we would just meet back at the room.

Around world showcase I went, past the ball into backstage Epcot. To my surprised when I reached that point there were even more 501st people!! So I grabbed a couple more pictures with them.

2troopers.jpg bounty hunter.jpg speeder.jpg

These guys were just as awesome as the first set and I thanked them and ran off. Only .2 to go! In no time I came up on the finish line and crossed at 3:16:33.

These people even made a frame for me :)
frame.jpg

After I finished I got my medal then grabbed a drink, the volunteers insisted I take two because I looked so hot, my snack box and a cooling towel. I took a quick I did it picture

I did it.jpg

Then I headed for the buses and didn't have to wait before I was on my way back to CBR. Much different than last year!

I always feel like lines take forever too since you see everyone running by, but I was looking at timestamps on pics and my Darth Maul 10k pic which I thought was a longer wait turned out to only be 3 minutes.

Because I knew the course I planned a bathroom break at the real bathrooms in AK, right before EE.
Smart in pre planning, that's what I do too!

All your photos are great & glad you got the Ewoks! Your 501st selfies are awesome! I love how they were out there in multiple spots! Great recap and race!

The Final Hours

At check in for CBR I asked for late check out on Sunday, I normally do this on race mornings so I don't feel rushed. They granted the request and we were allowed to stay until 1:30pm. This will come into play later.

When I got back to the room after the half the boys were relaxing and watching Mickey cartoons. They had been trying to do that all week and we kept getting on them because you can watch cartoons at home! :P
So they finally got some cartoon time. Becky also got Liam to do some of his make up from school which was AMAZING!!! I ate the contents of my snack box and relaxed for a minute while telling everyone about the race. Becky told me that when they were going to come see me finish around 9am mousekeeping was knocking on our door. She said she let the lady know we had late check out and we would not be leaving until 1:30pm. I thought this was odd because it wasn't even regular check out time yet and in all the years I have been asking for late check out I have never had that happen. Actually I have never had mousekeeping knock on the door on check out day even when I check out at regular time. But now they knew so it shouldn't be a problem right?! We decided we had a couple of hours to kill so we took the boys to the main pool. I love the pool at CBR and it was probably one of the reasons we chose that resort.

By the time we got there it was sort of crowded so Liam and I decided to chill out in the hot tub. I thought if I did that I could head off any soreness that might develop later and it seemed to work. The hot tub ended up being pretty crowded too so we didn't stay long.

After the pool we went to the room to shower and get ready to leave. At this point we are still an hour before our check out time. The mousekeeping lady seemed to be lurking around our room all morning and we noticed her cart was next door. Back in our room the phone rings, I answer it and whoever was on the other end hung up. I am pretty sure mousekeeping was calling from the next room to see if we were still there. We went about our business getting ready to leave and walked out of our room at 1:30 exactly with the mousekeeping lady waiting outside of our room.

We went from there to Disney Springs. Becky had read they did a drawing class at DisneyQuest and Killian loves to draw, so that was our first stop. She had debated on going there or AoA since they had drawing classes too but the times for AoA didn't work. When we got to DQ we realized you had to pay to get in for the class. A manager happened to be at the turnstiles and when he heard about our confusion he told us we could attend the drawing class for free. He lead us to the elevator and told us where the class was going to be. :tink:Another awesome cast member!!

We got to draw Steamboat Willie during the class which was awesome but it was on screens instead of paper and that was disappointing. The screens were hard to draw on and Liam gave up after a while.

Here is mine on the screen

and then the cast member printed them out for us along with diplomas for completing the class

paper mickey.jpg

After the class we were starving so we headed to the other side of the springs. I really wanted a burger like I always do after every race. So Liam and I decided on D-Luxe Burger. Killian and Becky decided on woodfire pizza from Blaze.

I had never been to D-Luxe Burger before but the menu looked amazing
Burgermenu.jpg

I ended up with the seasonal burger which was the bacon and bleu burger

burger.jpg

So. Very. Yummy.

And Liam and I split a S'mores milkshake

milkshake.jpg
It was amazing!!!

After eating we strolled through the shops for a little while. Liam asked me to take his picture with the Lego mural outside of the Lego store.
lego wall.jpg

Time was flying by and before we knew it Becky and Killian had to get to the airport :( But first we decided to make a little detour. There was a Disney outlet nearby that we had talked about checking out. I thought we had time so I drove over. I had been to this outlet before many years ago but don't remember it being spectacular. Boy was I wrong!! The deals were amazing this time. They had Tsum Tsums for $.99 and they were B2GO free. Both of our families love them so we grabbed those up. Then they plates that were over $12 in the parks for $3. Becky found some mugs that were a couple bucks. We could have spend all day in that store but we were seriously running out of time (I did go back a couple weeks later and grabbed $60 headphones for $10)

We rushed over to the airport and said our goodbyes at the curb. Becky and Killian caught their plane and Liam and I made the 2 hour drive home. It had been one epic vacation!!

That's so funny!

Thanks! I liked that they were in multiple spots too and I felt like the spots had more room this year than last year which made stopping much easier.

:sad2: I think we had to even check because they'd never let us know? Or something. Odd, some of this trip is a blur in my mind LOL

watching Mickey cartoons
oh my gosh. It was always the SAME DANG ONE! Also, it's ruined that newer animation style for me (well, it's not new, but it's the current "popular" Mickey on a lot of prints right now, bags, etc. Dislike.)

Becky also got Liam to do some of his make up from school which was AMAZING!!!
Haha I totally cracked the whip! He actually complied like right away. I was impressed he got it ALL done! I think he enjoyed getting to talk with us about all the topics, and I loved hearing him read me his stories, because he's such a good writer, very imaginative and so much detail ;) SO much like Killian

mousekeeping was knocking on our door.
She seemed annoyed that I was still there! I said we had late check out, and she sighed, then asked what about the room next to us?? ummm....:confused3:confused3:confused3

It had been one epic vacation!!
UNDERSTATEMENT! We had a few groups of friends who have gone in the weeks since we went...oh my gosh we were 100% insanely lucky. Killian and I keep saying how it's amazing we got to do so much, we really never waited in lines. I mean I think the longest line I can remember was for Olaf or Sorcerer Mickey! (poor guy) So amazing. Thanks for roping me into this @MommaoffherRocker :goodvibes

Also, I can't bring myself to update that ticker, since they automatically reset... :( :( and I have nothing planned yet! HOW is that possible?
Lightside is 232 days away, just saying :D

This trip sounded like the perfect trip. So many things went right and there was so much pixie dust from cast members it might be hard to top it. Thanks for sharing!
I know, it will be hard to top with all those great cast members!! Thanks for reading :)

Whew! Finally caught up. What a great TR so far. Huge score on the lotus popcorn buckets – we did ROL on our last night and saw lots of people walking around with them and they are so pretty! I also love your idea of putting your race magnets on your front door. Great place to see them and remind yourself of all the good times and races. I usually keep my most recent two race magnets on my Jeep (though I still haven’t put up Light Side/Dark Side yet) and put the others on the side of the fridge. I usually buy two magnets for that reason and also in case someone steals one off my car (I’ve lost a couple this way).

Love the 5K recap, I’m sorry about Liam’s illness. But you both did a great job! Bummer about the defective medal, and double-bummer for having to go back to the expo, but yay for runDisney making it right!

I LOLed at your hanging baskets photo – perfect! And the Toy Story group photo is wonderful, as was your “gets” for the Star Wars show, great candids of the characters!

Thanks for hosting the meetup before the half marathon, it was a lot of fun and nice to put faces to screen names! The race was so fun, and you had a lot of great photo ops with the 501st!

Score on the animation class, so nice that they give you a print-out like that. I like the outlet, too, but it's hit or miss for me. I did get a Nightmare Before Christmas Dooney there for $35 which was the best sale I've ever experienced. :)

What a great TR, thanks for sharing it with us!
