Has anyone done this excursion? What are your thoughts about it? Any recommendations for St. Maarten?:chat:

I'm interested in this excursion too.

I booked this excursion for the morning in St. Maarten. I figured we'll do that, then go over to Great Bay Beach in the afternoon, have lunch, swim and do some shopping. I'll let you know how it is when we get back. :)

We did this excuriosn, it was very nice. You get an air conditioned bus ride over to the French side of the Island, the driver being tour guide on the way over showing you parts of the island and such. They take you on these semi-submersible boats. They have a full lower deck with HUGE windows out into the ocean. They have this unique bench seating system, where everyone gets a seat. They bring the boats out to the reef, where a diver goes over with bait to coax the sea life to get close to you. After that fun time they take you to the French side shopping district for a while then back to the ship. A nice, fun excursion.

Mark RG, Thanks for the information - sounds like a good excursion to book. Can't wait:boat:

We did this excursion and enjoyed it! It was really interesting to hear about the history of the island. My dh and dd are really fair and I did want an excursion that would not be in the sun much since we did Coki Beach at St. Thomas and of course Castaway Cay, so this was perfect.

I'm considering this excursion as well but am slightly claustrophobic. Since the boat is "semi"-submersible, does that mean if I start to feel uncomfortable or confined being "under" the water that I can just head back up to the top deck if need be? My sister and Dad are doing this tour, but I wasn't sure if I should try it or not. If not, then I guess it'll be the "Under 2 Flags" bus tour for me! :) Thanks for any replies!

Yes, you can head back up if it bothers you. I am not to keen on small places, but my tolerance point is not that low either. That said, it didn't bother me in the least. It's a reasonably roomy area. It's official name is semi submersible, but it's actually more like a boat with a lower deck, it doesn't submerge or anything. Just get a seat near the stair, once everyone's seated the middle is hard to get out of.

We did the excursion on our last cruise. It was ok. Not anything I would do again. But, I am glad we did it.

I don't know if it was so much the excursion, or just the island itself. You see a lot of the island, and there are large portions that are very poor. That was kinda depressing.

However, the semi sub was fun, and seeing the fish swarm the diver was cute.
