Hello! I reserved two queen beds at Park Vue for late June 2020. We don’t like dingy motels, but the reviews for Park Vue were almost universally positive. I mentioned to a friend recently that we’d be staying there and the friend wrinkled his nose and said, “All those motels across the street are disgusting.” Now I’m worried. Was it a mistake to reserve Park Vue? Any thoughts or recent experiences? Thanks!

None of the motels across the street are in any way disgusting. (The exception being the buffet at Captain Kidds.) They are close, the are convenient, and some of them have been more recently updated/upgraded. Sounds like your friend has champagne taste. For those of us with a beer budget, the hotels along Harbor are just fine.

I don’t think they’re disgusting. But they are motels and I just can’t do motels anymore. I don’t think I’m a hotel snob and I’m cheap. But I get signed up for rewards programs with credit cards. We’re staying for free at Homewood Suites.

I have not had a bad stay at any hotel/ motel near DL (usually motels). I have not stayed at Park Vue but it sounds to me like your friend is making assumptions without knowing the truth for themselves.

Sounds like you need new friends 😉. To each his own, but as I walk back to my Harbor motel and see everyone dead exhausted sitting on rock hard benches waiting for the shuttle to take them to their newer, nicer hotel, and am not the least bit sad that I will be tucked in bed in a perfectly clean room before they ever even board that bus! That was a really long sentence 😂, but you get my drift. You will be fine!

The Park Vue is great. Request two queens towards the back of the hotel on the second floor. Your friend is wrong. We’ve stayed there 7 times since June and the only room I didn’t like was the queen with a bunk. I’m a hotel snob. I’d book the Grand Californian every trip if my husband would let me, and we are perfectly happy at PVI.

I would rely more on the online reviews than your friend. Especially if he has never stayed there. I myself have never stayed at the PVI, but I have read lots of good things about it here on the dis and that along with online reviews would make me feel comfortable staying there. =)

I've stayed at three different motels across the street on Harbor (but not PVI). None of them were disgusting in any way, although they are motels, not fancy hotels. The convenience outweighs any wishes for greater luxury in my book. And my feet always thank me by the end of the trip. :)

Never stayed at the Park View but at other Harbor Motels, and I would 100% choose one of those directly across from the entrance vs a nicer hotel a little farther away. We couldn't get the Desert Inn for our last stay, so we stayed on points at the Hilton Convention Center, and yes, it was a nicer resort, but we missed the closer walk so much that we immediately booked the Desert Inn for our next trip, even though we weren't sure we could even make it.

That said, we do park open to close, and don't use any of the amenities. If we were spending more time at the resort than we do, I don't think I would stay at one of the motels as they don't have the usual amenities we prefer in a hotel.

Can I ask why you didn’t like the queen with bunk room? We have a 2 queen with bunks reserved because of our need for that many beds. Is there a location with this configuration that I should request? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies! Follow-up: To get a room in the back, do I request that now, closer to arrival date, or upon check-in?

They have this configuration at homewood suites convention. We liked it. There are 2 twins and a twin that rolls out from under the bunk.

I think Springhill suites convention and courtyard Marriott theme park entrance have bunks.

I didn’t like the room with one queen and the bunks because those are located closer to the front of the motel, and they seemed older and smelled older. I think that’s the original building. If that makes sense. We had room 110. We just spent the weekend there with my parents and had room 148, which is the big suite. It’s three queens in two rooms and it was great. I just think the back part of the hotel is “newer” and it just seems slightly nicer. I would call and ask where the two queen with bunks are located. Feel free to DM me with any questions once they give you the location.

That being said, we would still stay in one of the queen rooms with a bunk if that was the only option. They are not dirty or anything.

Request it now.

You cannot beat the location. We’ve stayed at the “nicer” hotels off Katella once and the walk Quite frankly sucks. It’s park Vue or bust for us, unless we splurge at the GCh.

We stayed at Park Vue Inn last spring. It was great. Enjoyed the free breakfast. The parking was free. And the walk to the main gate was SO SHORT! 5 minutes, if that. Room was very clean.

It's a motel. With exterior doors, no interior hallways. And the pool is in the parking lot. So don't stay there expecting a 5-star hotel like the Grand Californian Hotel...with in-house restaurants, a bar, pool cabanas to rent, and room service. But if you need a clean & safe space to sleep that is super duper close to the main gate, it totally fits the bill.

I have never stayed at a hotel/motel across the street. We did stay at BW Raffles or something like that like 10 years ago. We would not stay there now because we like different amenities and usually stay on site or Hilton or Homewood( on points). The Park Vue gets a lot of good reviews on this board. All the motels across the street seem like they are clean, close and offer breakfast. Most people just use them to sleep.

Even though we prefer a Hilton or Marriott I would never make a comment to a friend about their hotel choice being disgusting.

I've stayed at a couple different off-property places, including Park Vue.

While it's definitely a basic motel, Park Vue is, IMO, a very nice one. The room was surprisingly large, the beds VERY comfortable, and the location unbeatable.

I guarantee you your friend hasn't actually stayed there.

When was the last time your friend stayed at any of them?
I was going to ask the same thing -- or, rather, has the OP's friend actually stayed (with proof, please) at any of the hotels across from the parks recently or ever? Also, the OP's friend needs to define "disgusting" -- compared to what? Buckingham Palace? (Where the Obamas found rodents, by the way!) Well, at least we now know that the OP's friend won't ever be booking a room at any of those properties, which means one more room available for DISers!
