Second Star to the Right and Straight on 'Till Morning..to DisneyWorld! Sep13-NEW10/3

WOW! That's a lot of life's challenge this year. Seems to be the trend for 2013. Whilst it is of little comfort, I think this year has been incredibly challenging for a lot of people.

I hope that Laura and your Nunna are well.

Here's to the next 37 days.

Thank you! Yes, Laura is doing wonderful now! It's been so great having her sick-free! And Nunna has been doing better since going in the hospital. They're able to monitor her 24 hours a day, which helps immensly! My mom has said she's regaining some of the strength she'd lost and is getting a lot of rest, which she needed so badly!

So happy to have you still reading along!

Another update coming up here soon today! We're staying in today; John sprained his ankle Friday during his PT test. He rolled it a mile into the run portion of the test! But, it wasn't a serious sprain, so he'll be up moving about in no time! He just needs to take it easy this weekend and into next week! So, I'll have some free time here while Laura naps and such to get an update done! :cool1:

The Good Things! Part 1

I know, I know, I didn't get an update done yesterday! :guilty: Just didn't get those free moments I thought I would!

BUT, no worries, here's our real-life update to catch up on the good things we've had going on in my absence!

First of all, I had written back in November, I believe it was, that John had been reassigned to Ft. Gordon Georgia. Well, in January he was told that a clerical error had been made and he was not being reassigned! So, we have at least another year here in IL! I'm actually relieved to not have to pack up and move again for a little while longer! Georgia would have been really great, but it's okay that we're staying!

We left off at Christmas, officially. Here are a few pictures from Christmas! Unfortunately, I don't have the ones from New Year...I didn't realize it until I went to upload them, but they're all on my Mom's camera, so these are just Christmas and such!

Christmas Dinner with my Mom's side of the family! Including Nunna, Nunu, my Aunt and her Fiance.

A few of my favorite shots from Laura's Christmas pictures that I did

John and I got Buzzy the movie Tangled for Christmas so we had a movie night while she was still home. We wore matching Mickey feetie jammies too!

A visit from Nunna and Nunu in January while we were in PA

February brought Valentine's Day!

Laura and I attempted a little project...Her first hand print! It's a lot more difficult than you'd think! She kept grabbing at the mold and here's the finished product!

Haha! We still had fun and it's now totally unique! I'd like to try it again next year!

We had a quiet Valentine's at home since Laura was still recovering from her infections and John made us a spectacular dinner!

We had bacon and cheese topped chicken, couscous, and his special crab and cream cheese homemade sushi! The plate is slightly messy...I started moving things around before I remembered the picture! Oops!

With Red-Velvet cake for dessert!

In March, my parents and Buzzy came out for a visit! Buzzy was home for a couple weeks during her "spring break" and they all made a trip out! It was a nice visit and great to see Buzzy for a week before she headed back to Germany!

Yes, they are Christmas decorations in the picture...in March...we didn't get them down in a very speedy manner this year...

While they were in town we got out all of my old Disney stuffed animals to set up in our loft, which has become Laura's play area. This is before they were organized! Find the baby!

Aunt Buzzy and Laura

A few weeks later was Easter and Laura enjoyed her very first Easter basket!

She particularly liked the little puff snacks and Mickey Mouse Club House DVD!

We also had a delicious lasagna for dinner, which is a family tradition!

The Good Things! Part 2

The end of May/Beginning of June brought us to our trip back to PA! It wasn't exactly a "fun" trip with Laura being sick and everything going on with Nunna, but it's always nice to spend time with family! While in PA we went to the annual Memorial Day Parade in town! And Laura got some flags that she really enjoyed waving around! She loved her first parade--especially the horses, and was in awe of the fire trucks!

At the parade!

June flew by and we entered July! My parents flew out for two weeks at the beginning of the month to celebrate the 4th and Laura's first birthday with us!

Laura loved her first 4th of July barbeque!

On July 12th we celebrated Laura's 1st Birthday! It was a great day and Laura really enjoyed all the festivities! I can't believe she is a year old already! It feels like we blinked and the past year went by!

We had a Minnie theme (of course!) and Laura couldn't stop staring at the decorations!

Her cake was bought with just the pink piping and writing and then John and I bought the added decorations seperately. We had the hardest time finding a cake we liked for her with a Minnie theme! We wanted something simple and not super expensive, since we were just having a very small family party here at the house. If Buzzy was in the country she would have made the cake herself, but since she wasn't here, we had to find an alternative!

Laura's first cake!

We got a free "smash" cake with the purchase of her actual cake, which was a pleasant surprise!

Laura was initially afraid of the red table cloth we laid down and wouldn't go near the cake for a few minutes. She finally did though and had some fun with the cake!

Laura's smash cake after the smash

Her very first piece of cake, first taste of chocolate, and first scoop of ice cream!

It's a hit!

Mmmmm this is pretty good!

After cake and ice cream, it was present time!

Family picture!

The next day, she just had to check out her new wagon with Pappy!

Over the last few days of my parents' visit, Laura enjoyed playing with her new toys with them!

My dad...trying to get Laura to get over her fear of the tunnel! Not sure if that makes it more or less scary, however....haha!

Now it's my mom's turn! Only she had Minnie on her side and was able to coax Laura through...she now goes in and out of that thing all the time!!

We also took Laura on her first, of many, wagon rides and she LOVED it! That wagon is amazing! I wish we could take it to Disney with us, but I have a feeling it would not only be frowned upon at the airport, but in the parks as well!

Continued...again...next..

The Good Things! Part 3--The final part!

While my parents were still in town, we got out Laura's swimming pool as well!

She was not so sure at first.

But then she started warming up to it!

With a little help from Mommy!

The next day she was ready to go again!

It's hard to get her out of it now!

All in all, the visit with my parents was wonderful and I'm so glad they could be there for Laura's first birthday!

Then on August 5th it was John's birthday! He turned 26!

John and Laura

Laura and I got him his favorite Red-Velvet cupcakes and decorated appropriately! They are some of the best Red-Velvet cupcakes we have ever eaten!

Blowing out his candles

For dinner, I made ravioli and salad...the extent of my cooking skills, I'm afraid, but it was very yummy!

The next day, we celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary!! It was a really nice, chill day! John and I didn't do anything super special this year since we're going to Disney and are using that as our celebration. We did, however, go out to our favorite sushi restuarant, Sake, for dinner!

Our 2nd Anniversary Picture

Anniversary sushi!

And that brings us to today, which is actually Sadie's 2nd birthday! She gets a giant raw hide with bacon around it, because they are her favorite!!! She's still as silly and as energetic as ever!

This is a rare occurrance...Sadie, asleep, next to a toy....

She watches over Laura, like a good dog!

So, there you have it! A round up of some of the great things that have happened the past few months! Even through the rough spots we've encountered, it's good to remember all the blessings in our lives as well!

Speaking of good things:

ONLY 35 DAYS TO DISNEY!!!! :dance3::dance3:

Great pictures of the Good Things and La Dolce Vita.

Laura is adorable. The first year flies; but the next 2 years will go even quicker.

Thank you!! It was very therapeutic writing the recap and thinking of the positives!

Oh dear, as much as I look forward to watching Laura continue to grow, I am certainly not a fan of how fast it will happen!:sad1:

Hello Friends!

We are officially 33 DAYS AWAY FROM THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH!!! :dance3: So, it's about time we get some good Disney plans going!

Let's start with our tickets simply because, these gorgeous babies arrived today!!! :cheer2::woohoo:

I ordered our tickets this past weekend on our base's ITT website (which I found quite handy!) and the office submitted the orders Monday! I got the call that they were in this afternoon! John picked them up on his way home from base tonight!!! So happy to open that envelope and have them in hand!!

I was, initially, pretty worried about ordering through ITT, because I was afraid they wouldn't get here in time...to the point of considering waiting until we were actually in Disney to stop over at Shades of Green and get them, but I'm SO glad I didn't wait and then have to deal with trying to get over there the day we arrive!

We got the following tickets:

John, Mom, Buzzy, and I all have 7 Day Park Hopper Tickets!

Dad has a 3-Day Park Hopper Ticket!
Dad also has 4, 1-Day Park Hopper Tickets. So, he has a total of 7 days!

We got those 4, 1-Day tickets, after our last trip in 2010. My Mom had written to Disney after our trip regarding our one day in Magic Kingdom. We went to the bathroom in Tomorrowland, and it was unusually dirty, with water on the floor, puddling in different spots, and un-emptied waste cans, etc. (it was like the room hadn't been cleaned in much longer than it should have been). Well, coming out of the bathroom, I slipped on a water puddle and fell! I had a bruise on my hip, but was fine otherwise. Mom said something to one of the CMs that day so the water could be mopped up so no one else fell or got hurt.

When we got home, my mom wrote them just to make them aware of the issue—a couple of the bathrooms that trip were just more icky than they had ever been on previous trips. It wasn't a really big deal or anything, just something she felt they should know about. Well, a couple weeks later, she got a letter back apologizing for the problems and they gave us 4, 1-Day Hopper tickets! We were shocked! There was no need for them to send us those!

Anyway, Dad will be the one using those tickets. He's more than likely to want a day to rest...it's usually our Animal Kingdom day he stays back at the room, because he has a hard time with how hot it gets in that park...I have a feeling this year he'll come with us because of Laura, but this way, a day on a 7-Day Hopper doesn't go to waste like it has in the past, if he stays back at the room.

We will not be going to the parks on our arrival or departure day, but we have other fun plans for those days!

When we're going:

Our dates are still the same from before Christmas: Tuesday, September 17, 2013 to Wednesday, September 25, 2013

How we're getting there:

We will be flying this trip! We found an awesome deal on airline tickets!! It was actually by luck that we found them! I just happened to do a quick search on my phone one day when I had a moment, just to see, and there they were!

The flights we had been watching were ranging from about $300-$350 a piece, with a dip to the mid-200s every so often...we were waiting for them to dip back down again before purchasing, since we figured that was the lowest they'd go.

The day I checked on my phone, they had dropped to $195 a person (out of Saint Louis—they were a little more out of Harrisburg for my parents and Buzzy, but still the lowest we'd seen)! We booked that evening! The next day, the prices were back up! It was just a little pre-trip pixie dust!!

We will all be flying Delta—for the amazing in-flight cookies, of course :rotfl: Anyone else love those things? (As a side note—John and I were grocery shopping in the Commissary a couple weeks ago and they were selling packs of the Biscoff cookies!!! I can't remember how many was in the pack (20 maybe?), but they were just as good as those they give in-flight! It was lovely to enjoy some of that deliciousness with my morning coffee!)

But, actually, no, the cookies are not the reason we chose Delta. Delta just happened to have that great deal I wrote about above!

John, Laura, and I are scheduled to fly out of the Lambert-St. Louis Airport on the 17th at 6:00am.

We had originally planned on taking a late morning flight since we won't be going to the parks that day, but we just couldn't pass up spending as much time as possible in the World!

We have a short layover in Atlanta.

And are scheduled to arrive in Orlando at 11:25am!!

Then, for the very first time, we will be taking Disney's Magical Express to our hotel!! I just set this up the past weekend, so we're still waiting on our luggage tags and such!

Where we'll be staying:

Disney's Magical Express will take us to the Art of Animation Resort for our first night!!

I have to say, I'm thrilled we're checking out this resort! Seeing pictures and reading reports about it has made me and the rest of the family very excited!!

We will be staying in a Lion King Family Suite! It was up to John, Mom, Dad, and Buzzy to choose the suite, and I was REALLY surprised this is what EVERYONE voted for. I thought the Nemo suites would win out, but I'm over the moon with their choice! The Lion King is one of my all time favorite Disney movies (tied with Beauty and Beast) and I can't wait to stay in one of the suites!

We were able to book this using the 20% Military room only discount—I actually wasn't expecting any type of discount here, but asked just out of curiosity when I called and they were able to give it to us! :yay:

After spending the night with Simba and the gang, we'll be moving to The Contemporary for the rest of our stay!!!

Ahhh, we all cannot wait to be back there! :cloud9: As mentioned many posts ago, we were able to book an Atrium Club Level Theme Park View Room using the 40% Military room only discount! :yay:

Where we will be eating this trip:

We have confirmed reservations for the following:

Raglan Road on 9/17. SO excited about trying this restaurant!

Hoop Dee Doo Revue on 9/19. One of our favorites, but we skipped it last trip, so it'll be nice to go again!

Tusker House—Lunch on 9/21. Another new one for us!

Yachtsman Steakhouse on 9/23 (our alternative in case California Grill isn't opened yet or we are unable to get reservations). However, if California Grill doesn't open, we might change this to something else anyway...I'm not really feeling Yachtsman at the moment, but that could just be because California Grill is so up in the air yet. Anyone eaten at Yachtsman? How was it?

Chef Mickey's—Breakfast on 9/25 when we leave—this is a trip tradition and perfect for the last day!

How we get home:

We leave the 25th at 5:30pm from Orlando Airport...we'll be taking the Magical Express back to the airport, but I'm thinking I may surprise everyone and schedule a Limo pick-up instead. (This has been a tradition for us for many, many trips, but I need to look into it more. Right now, it's just something I've been mulling over).

We have a layover in Atlanta again and are scheduled to get into St. Louis at 10:45pm.

So, in a, relatively large, nutshell, that is our trip! I'll go more in depth, day by day in the coming posts, but this gives everyone an overview!

Have a great night everyone!

Great looking plans and ADRs. Seems like your trip is coming together. That's a great deal for Delta and I'm so pleased you got it.

This time in 33 days time, you'll be in WDW.....and I'll be in Arizona. :thumbsup2

ETA. It's not quite the second star to the right but I'll be keeping an eye on the skies when in the US......will probably be looking out for Polaris. I'll think of you in WDW on the 17th when I'm star gazing.

Just found your PTR; So sorry about your grandmother. We will be in Disney; September 15-23;but staying at BCV. (we are DVC)

Thanks! It really is! John and I keep saying that, after everything and having the trip in question for so long, it's almost surreal to be talking about our plans and KNOW we're going to see them through! It's a great feeling!

Yay!!! And only 32 days now!!!

Aw, you're sweet to think of us, no matter the star! What will you be doing in Arizona? I've always wanted to visit there!

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome!

Thank you, Nunna was moved to the nursing home yesterday and she did well, so it's relieving to know that at least went okay!

Awesome that you're also going to be there that week! Our trips are just so close now!! It's hard to contain the excitement! Have you stayed at BCV before?

Thanks for reading along!!

Glad that your Nunna is better.

Aw, you're sweet to think of us, no matter the star! What will you be doing in Arizona? I've always wanted to visit there!

I'm heading to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Page and Monument Valley in Arizona. Definitely chasing red rock, cowboys and indians!

Ah, yes! I actually have been reading your PTR since I asked you that! Just haven't commented yet, but will when I'm finished reading!!! :-) I think your trip sounds amazing, though!!

ETA: Thank you about Nunna as well, it's been great news knowing she's okay right now!!

Just needed to make a quick post to mark today!

Because I can actually say...

This time next month we will be IN DISNEY WORLD!!!!!! :cool1::banana::banana::woohoo::cool1:

Hooray for only 30 days to go!!!:woohoo:

On another note, my mom gave me a great update on Nunna today! She said Nunna actually recognized who Laura is today! I had sent Mom a few pictures of Laura that I took today and while they were visiting Nunna tonight she showed her the pictures and Nunna went crazy with excitement to see Laura! This is the first time she's recognized Laura in months!

I know that tomorrow she may have no idea who she is again, but to hear she was SO thrilled to see the pictures tonight just made me so wonderfully happy!! Hearing that so far, since she's been in the nursing home, things have been going well is comforting.

It's been a good day!!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!! :woohoo:

Day 1-Arrival Day!

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!

On Saturday, I took our Sadie to the vet for a check-up and a vaccine that she was due for. Also, had to get her Vaccination Records, so we have them when we take her to the Kennel next month.

Sadie, at the vet

She's all set now for her "vacation" next month!

Alrighty, onto some Disney goodness!

First, ONLY 27 DAYS TO GO!!

Today's update is a look at our arrival day-Or what I'm thinking/hoping it will look like-I plan, but I never expect those plans to go exactly how I imagine them.

In reality, our preparations will start the day before we leave. This day is actually my Mom's birthday! Yay! We will be celebrating the next day when we arrive in Disney!

That day, John will have to work, but he should get home around noon-he's been working the “early” shift. This is of course, as long as they don't switch him back to the regular duty-day hours.

While John's working, Laura and I will finish packing-or start packing-it really depends...I seriously dislike packing, even packing for Disney! So, I tend to procrastinate, in the worst way....I actually enjoy the preparation part of packing-choosing the clothes to take and making lists and such, it's the actual act of putting everything into the suitcase that I dislike. I always end up packing and repacking about three times. I also have a little OCD and need things put in. Just. Right.

It really is my goal this trip, to be done packing before the 16th so I can make sure the house is in order, double check all our confirmations and documents are gathered and in my carry-on, make sure all of Laura's necessities are ready to go, and get Sadie ready to go to the kennel on that day.

When John gets home from work, one of us..probably me, because I'm sure there will be a last minute errand or two I'll need to run, will take Sadie to the kennel.

This will be the very first time she will be away from us. I'm a little nervous about how she's going to take being in a strange place for ten nights. She's been socialized with other people and dogs since she was born, so I'm not worried about how she'll interact with everyone there, but just nervous she's going to think we've abandoned her.

So, once Sadie is set at the kennel, I'll come back home to finish preparations here.

We'll probably order out for dinner, since our house will more than likely be devoid of anything edible. Our night will consist of anxiously and impatiently awaiting the coming morning. Laura will have her bath and go to bed at her regular time of 7:00pm. John and I have a hard time going to bed earlier than 10pm, but hopefully we'll have everything ready and it won't be much later than that.

BECAUSE....

Our alarms will be ringing at the much too early hour of 2:45am on the 17th! I normally can't sleep the night before we leave, so it'll not matter much to me anyway! That will give us a little more than an hour to get ourselves ready, get Laura up, ready, and given a small breakfast, load the truck, and get on the road to the airport. We'll need to leave no later than 4:00am, but I'm shooting to be out the door by 3:45am.

It's about a half hour to:

St. Louis from the house and at that time of the morning there usually isn't any traffic, so hoping we'll get there about 4:15am. John will need to park the truck in long-term parking, so that'll take a bit more time than we're used to.

After our bags are checked, we'll immediately go through security. It doesn't matter the time here, the security line always seems long, so we don't mess around between bag check and the metal detectors. As I'm typing this, I'm realizing this will be the first time John has flown with Laura in tow. She and I have a routine down now, so it'll be interesting to do it all with John along!

Once we're through security, we'll find our gate and then more than likely grab some caffeine for John and I and milk for Laura.

We'll hang out at the gate until boarding. We're scheduled to leave at 6:00am, so hopefully we take off on time!

Our flight is supposed to land at 8:35am in....

Atlanta!

This is where the fun truly begins!!

I was able to book flights that matched my parents' and Buzzy's flights! Unfortunately, I can't remember when they land in Atlanta, but I know it's around the same time we do.

We are all on the same connecting flight to Orlando! John, Laura, and I will actually be sitting right behind Mom, Dad, and Buzzy!! So, we'll be meeting up with them at the same departure gate!!!!!

At this point, I don't know what will be greater, the excitement to be in Disney or the excitement to see Buzzy again after six months!! I get choked up just thinking about seeing her and I cannot wait for this moment! I'm sure there will be a few, if not many, happy tears!

Buzzy!

During dinner at Planet Hollywood in 2010

We're scheduled to take off at 9:55am and then land in Orlando at 11:25am!!!!

Love landing in Orlando!

Once we land, we'll head off in search of that Magical Express for the first time!

These came yesterday!!!

(I have to mail Mom's, Dad's, and Buzzy's luggage tags to PA so they have them before they leave, but this was the last piece of the puzzle! Everything we absolutely NEED for the trip, is in hand! )

The Magical Express will drop us at Art of Animation!

(Internet image)

We'll check in and if our room is ready we'll go and get settled in our Lion King Suite

(Internet image)

If our room isn't ready, we'll stow our carry on luggage for the time being.

I'm thinking everyone will be hungry by this time. Laura for sure, will be wanting lunch, so we'll head off to the food court and see what we can find. It will be difficult, but we'll try to eat light in preparation for our dinner that evening!

After everyone's bellies are satisfied, we'll explore the resort a bit and/or get our suits on (that we'll have packed in our carry ons) and try out the pools for a little.

Hopefully, if it wasn't earlier, our room will be ready by the time we're done in the pool, because by then it'll be time to get cleaned up for dinner!

Once everyone's dressed and ready to go, we'll walk out to the bus stop and head here:

It will depend what time it is, but we may be able to get a little shopping in. After we browse a bit, we'll head off to our first ADR of the trip! We have 5:45pm reservations at:

RAGLAN ROAD!!!

This is a first time restaurant for everyone, so we're really looking forward to it! We've looked at the menu and so many things look delicious! During dinner we'll officially celebrate Mom's birthday with cards and desserts and such!!

After dinner, depending on the time, we may browse a little more in some of the shops, but I'm thinking we'll probably head back to the room right away. We'll stop for some in-room snacks/drinks somewhere along the way, as well.

When we get back to the room, it'll be bath, cereal, and bed time for Miss Laura.

She may or may not have taken a nap during the day. I've found when we fly, she will take a short snooze in the stroller during our layover if there's time, but that's usually it for the day!

We plan to let her sleep in the stroller if she gets sleepy in the parks instead of going back to the room. This generally works when we're out and about on a regular day and she isn't the most consistent napper as it is! She doesn't nap at the same time everyday (even though I've tried getting her to), somedays she takes one long nap, and somedays it's two shorter naps, so trying to get her back to the room for a nap she may or may not take is just too much stress and uncertainty for all of us. So, stroller it is! Usually, as long as the stroller is in motion, she'll fall asleep if she gets tired.

The one thing I really like about having the Family Suite is that once she's in her crib that evening, we'll be able to hang out in the main room without worrying too much about disturbing her in the separate bedroom. John and I will be sleeping in there as well...even though we're trying to get my parents to take it...I know they would be more comfortable in the actual bed, while John and I take the pull out couch, but they're not having it. I'll see if I can convince them when we get there. Buzzy will be sleeping on the convertable table bed.

Anyway, once Laura's asleep, Mom, Buzzy, and I plan to Minniefy our nails. Mom found this:

And we'll be trying to achieve the pictured results that evening! I'm not a big nail-polisher anymore, so, it should be interesting to see how well this turns out!

After we're polished and dried, it'll probably be bed-time for the adults so we rest up for our first full day in the World!!

So, there we have our Arrival Day! I'm hoping it goes smoothly with our flights and such. I'm also incredibly happy I've flown with Laura so many times already and that we won't be having our first experience on this trip!

Next up: Day 2-Moving resorts and our first park!

I'll leave you with something we've all been asking ourselves lately: When Laura meets Pluto, will his nose survive??

:lmao:

What a great first day plan. And how fantastic to be having dinner at RR.

What a great first day plan. And how fantastic to be having dinner at RR.

Thanks!!:thumbsup2 I cannot wait for Raglan Road! Can. Not. Wait!!:hyper:

Also, I've added chapter links to the very first post to help with navigation!

Should have our Day 2 update done within the next couple days!

26 DAYS TO DISNEY!! :dance3:

Have a great night everyone!

Good morning friends!!

Hope everyone's weekends were wonderful!

Just wanted to make a brief post to say:

WE GOT CALIFORNIA GRILL RESERVATIONS!!!!!

party:

I hadn't planned on getting up to see if reservations were available online at 5:00am (central time) since I'd already set it up with IPO to do it. BUT, I woke up at 4am, then again at 4:30am, and was nervous about waiting to hear from IPO about whether or not we got the ADR. I dozed off again until about 5:15am, gave up trying to sleep, checked here on the DIS and saw that reservations were being taken online! So, I got up, went downstairs and was able to book our desired day and time!!

So, instead of Yachtsman Steakhouse on September 23rd, we have reservations for 5:30pm at CALIFORNIAL GRILL!!!

A quick picture of my Dad and I before dinner there in 2010...

This is how I feel right now: like giving my inner waking-up-before-sunrise-reservation-making-muscles a celebratory flex!!

So happy right now!! :woohoo:

I'll have our Day 2 plans up later today as well! :thumbsup2

So, this update is coming to you a bit later than I planned! After watching Laura show some symptoms of a possible ear infection this weekend, I ended up taking her to Urgent Care this afternoon (her Doctor wanted her seen today, but had nothing available until Friday).

Unfortunately, we were right, she has another ear infection and is back on antibiotics...for the fourth time since January. We can't get in to see the ENT until after we get back from Disney, so we have to get her through this one before we leave...hopefully it's her last. I feel so terrible for her. Gosh I hate seeing her sick :sad2: But, she's in bed now, sleeping peacefully, and we can do no more for her tonight.

So...

Day 2-To the Contemporary and our first park!

Plans for September 18th! Our first full day in the World! pixiedust:

After what I'm hoping will be a good night's sleep, we'll wake up and get ready. Mom and I will probably get up about 6:30-7:00 and probably go for a walk around the resort...Mom has done this for as long as I can remember, but I started joining her a few trips ago. It's turned into a nice tradition. While we're gone, Buzzy, Dad, and John will start getting up and around.

I'll have John text me when Laura wakes up and we'll head back to the room, if we're not already back, that is.

Now, we are not generally rope drop people...we like our leisurely vacation mornings. But, we do like to get to the parks at a decent hour. If we're at a park by 10:00am, we're happy!

This day; however, we'll want to get a bit of an earlier start since we've got to get over to the Contemporary before we hit the parks.

So, once everyone is dressed and ready to go, we'll head down to check out, and leave our luggage to be transferred over for us. Then we'll go get some breakfast in the food court!

When we've eaten our fill, we will say good-bye to Art of Animation, and catch a bus over to the Magic Kingdom. Here we will either walk or take the monorail to the Contemporary. I really want to walk from Magic Kingdom, but I know Dad will not want. I have this thing where I like my first ride on the monorail to be TO the Magic Kingdom...I know that may be weird, but it's just this little quirk I have. So, if no one else wants to, I'll walk with Laura to the Contemporary and then meet everyone else in the lobby. I'm hoping we'll be at check-in there by 9:00am-9:30am at the latest. That's the time I've given IPO, so we're really gonna shoot for it!

Love walking into this:

I'll check us in and get our keys to the world. We've chosen to forgo the Magic Bands this trip.

If our room is ready (that's a BIG if), we'll go and make sure we have a crib and a refrigerator—I got a letter in the mail Saturday saying we may not have one, but when I emailed IPO about requesting one because of Laura and the need to have milk on hand during the night, they emailed back saying all the Club Level rooms have them. So, hopefully everything is good to go!

THEN, we will head to the Concourse and take the monorail to the wonderful Magic Kingdom!

We'll disembark and head into the park!

We will first take that Magical walk down Main Street USA. I'll get totally teary eyed, like I do every trip. Only this year, will be even more special as I'll get to experience it with Laura for the first time. Oh it's going to be so amazing!

Of course there will be a few pictures in front of the castle:

This was John's first trip, in 2005! We had just graduated High School and Buzzy was going into 10th grade! She makes me laugh in this picture! (I found a few pictures from that trip...I don't have digital copies of them, but was able to take a picture of the pictures and upload them!)

And then we'll walk through the castle and into Fantasyland!

Our first ride has previously been:

So that will more than likely be our first this trip, as well! Laura will definitely love this!

After that, we don't have set plans...it'll depend on wait times and what everyone wants to do at the moment. We're pretty much play it by ear park-goers and it's always worked for us...we just don't stress out about it!

So, keeping that in mind, these plans are based on the way we've seen the park before. These are no way set in stone, but I did take a quick look at the map before writing this and it makes sense this way, so we'll see. Again, it's always worked for us...that may or may not be true this time, but then we'll change things accordingly.

Once we're done on the Carousel we'll head to:

Then we'll move onto The Mad Tea Party

My Dad is particularly excited for this! When Laura and I were in PA in May, this is all he could talk about! He cannot wait to take Laura on for the first time—but not spin very fast, of course. Mom and John will sit this one out...Mom can't do anything that spins and John just does not like tea cups of any kind.

2008 ride!

After our ride in 2008! He's so excited

We'll head over to the new Story Book Circus area after we've spun ourselves silly! Buzzy's favorite Disney movie is Dumbo...she and Nunna used to watch it every single day when she was little. I'm not exaggerating, either. Every. Single. Day. Laura has not seen the movie yet, but one of her favorite books is Dumbo. She loves to look at all the pictures while I read it. So, I'm pretty sure she'll enjoy this new area quite a bit!

We will ride Dumbo and then see what time it is...we may be able to meet/greet the characters over at Pete's Silly Sideshow. If not, then we'll continue on through New Fantasyland.

Our next stop will be the new Little Mermaid ride!

At this point we'll more than likely be ready to eat lunch. If everyone is in agreement, we'll attempt to have lunch at Be Our Guest depending on the line. Are the lines still crazy here? Or has it settled down since the opening?

For the sake of the flow of this PTR, we'll assume we got in to Be Our Guest for lunch.

After we're done with lunch, we'll see about trying Enchanted Tales With Belle. I am not sure this is something Laura would really be interested in...has anyone done this that can give me a little more info on whether you think a 14month old would like it? Is it something we might consider just skipping and try when she's a bit older? Thoughts on this?

Once we're finished in New Fantasyland, we'll continue on to the rest of Fantasyland including.

We actually really like Small World, even if the song is then stuck in our heads for the following month!

As long as the line isn't an hour...we've gotten lucky at least once a trip where the wait time is pretty manageable, so I'm not worried if we miss it the first day!

I know my Mom and Buzzy really enjoy this, so I'll sit it out with Laura and possibly take her back on the Carousel or Small World or walk through a few shops while everyone else is inside. I enjoy the show, but I'm okay sitting it out as well. I think last time John was there, he and I didn't get to see it, so he'll definitely go in!

To be completely honest, I'm actually looking forward to possibly having this alone time with Laura. I've been dreaming about taking her to Disney since before she was born and she only gets one first trip! I want to really savor that. Even though she won't remember it, I will, and it's very special to me to be able to share this experience with her.

So, that will bring us to the end of Fantasyland....from there we'll move onto Liberty Square.

Here we have

A personal favorite

I'm a little nervous about taking Laura on this....She's still at the stage where she's not scared by a whole lot, but I really just don't know. If we do take her through, we'll skip the stretching room—that's possible, right? I thought I read here on the DIS that you can do that...I think she'd be fine on the ride itself, but the lights going out and everything in that room might just be too much for her.

Anyone have any thoughts or experiences with little ones and the Haunted Mansion? If she doesn't ride it's not a big deal, but if we can all go on at once, that's a plus!

Something we may or may not go through is the Hall of Presidents...we did it last trip for the first time since the 90s, I believe (so LONG time), and we liked it. I think Laura will just be bored...so that will be one for another time...

OR if everyone else wants to go in (John hasn't seen it), I'll take Laura over to

because I know this is not a favorite of anyone else.

Laura on the other hand, LOVES the Country Bears. We have the Disneyland Sing Along DVD and she thinks the Country Bear Song is the best thing ever...she just lights up when it comes on and dances along! So, Jamboree it is!

I'll have the rest of our group meet Laura and I outside Country Bears and I'm hoping by this time it'll be right around 3:00pm so we can catch the Parade! We'll find a spot to watch and then I'll go in search of the amazingness that is the Frontierland turkey leg! These are still sold there right? We'll then settle in to share a couple turkey legs and watch the Parade!!

When the parade is over, we'll head further into Frontierland. This is where we'll probably get a Fastpass for Splash Mountain or Thunder Mountain depending how long the lines are. Last trip, neither Mom nor Dad rode either of these, but if I remember correctly it was because Mom wasn't feeling well and Dad stayed with her while Buzzy and I rode. If they want to ride this year, we'll utilize Rider Swap.

After we're done on these two mountains, we'll stroll toward Adventureland! Unfortunately, we won't be able to see

the “back side of water” this trip since Jungle Cruise will be closed for refurbishment, but we'll still go on

and The Magic Carpets of Aladdin.

We'll go into the Tiki Room (I'm SO excited they changed this back to the original!) as we leave Adventureland! I'm not sure about the Treehouse. John is not a fan of heights, so he will definitely not being going up. It's not something I HAVE to do and Dad doesn't go up either, so it'd just be Mom, Buzzy, and I. It'll be up to them if we do it or not.

We'll then cross in front of the Castle and over to Tomorrowland! I love Tomorrowland. Love. It! I think it's my favorite of the lands. I just have so many fond memories there. Once there, we'll check the line for Space Mountain and grab a fastpass if there's any left or we'll catch it another night. I'm not worried. We'll then ride the Wed Way (aka. Tomorrowland Transit Authority)!

Everyone will probably be hungry again when we are done, depending what time it is. We will probably eat at:

We seem to end up here for dinner the first night just about every trip!

Funny story! The year John was with us, he got a chicken sandwich there, ate it and never said anything about it. At the end of the meal, Mom asked him how it was. He said it was “okay, but would have been better if it wasn't so dry, or if they provided mayo or lettuce, or something....”

We all just pointed behind him to the GIANT condiment bar....I still can't figure out how he missed it! We walked by it at least three times as everyone decided what they were ordering! Haha! He jokes about this ALL the time, too. If something in a restaurant needs ketchup or mayo, he'll make a big deal about looking around and asking if he's just missing the condiments!

After dinner, we'll finish up with some Tomorrowland attractions including:

One of our favorites!

I'm not sure what time it will be, but it'll probably be getting close to time to find a decent spot for Wishes. This night they are at 8:00pm, so we'll start looking for a spot probably between 7:00-7:30pm.

I love Wishes...and I'm pretty sure I'll get all teary-eyed...like I do every time. I hear Jiminy Cricket come over those loud speakers and I'm a blubbering fool. I'm really hoping Laura's okay with the fireworks...I'm hoping the music will help any fear that could be induced by the sound of the fireworks themselves. If she's not handling it well, I'll just take her back into one of the Main Street shops until they're over.

I'm not ready to just say we'll go to the room and watch from the balcony, because I think as long as she's not afraid of the noise, she will be in total awe of the whole show and enjoy it. So, I'm willing to try them out and see how it goes, but am still nervous.

We'll look for a spot around the closest shops to the castle...at least that's what I'm hoping, so I can duck into one if necessary without having to wind through a ton of people trying to enjoy the show.

Once the fireworks are finished, we'll start heading out of the park...I'm sure we'll stop in a few shops on the way.

We'll get on the monorail and head “home.” Since the park closes at 9:00pm this night, we'll get to enjoy some desserts in the Club Level lounge! Yum!

After Laura's in bed, we'll hang out in the lounge for a bit.

John and I are considering bringing our baby monitor with us. We have a Tommee Tippee with the camera and it's got a 1000ft range on it. If our room is close enough to the lounge, it'll be great, because we can hang out in there until she falls asleep and still be able to keep an eye on her. If it works, great, if not that's okay, we'll come up with something. This is where I will miss the family suite. But, we'll make do, I'm sure.

I've been looking into some white noise generator apps that I can put on my phone as well for Laura at night. We really aren't a quiet family, no matter how hard we try! Usually the harder I try to be quiet, the noisier I am-I get this from Mom!

We have a cool-mist vaporizer in her room here at home that runs constantly, and it's a great source of white noise for her. Its not loud at all, but it does dull the sounds in the rest of the house, which is really helpful. Hoping something like that may help at night in the room. Anyone have any tips for sharing a hotel room with a sleeping 1 year old?

So, after we've had some desserts, we'll retire to the room for the night, and try to get some sleep!

I will mention, that if our room isn't ready upon check-in, we'll run back to the Contemporary to settle into the room briefly once it is. Hopefully, our luggage is there around the same time, so we can unpack quickly before going back to the park. This may change how we see the park, but I won't know until we're there and doing it!! Also, hopefully, Laura naps in her stroller during the day...we'll see how that goes and adjust accordingly!

Have a great night everyone!

Up next, Day 3-MGM-(aka Disney's Hollywood Studios)! Yes, I still call it MGM. It will always be MGM to me!

GReat plans for Day 2.

So sorry about Laura's ear infection. My DS went through a similar thing when he was a baby. His Eustachian tube wasn't wide enough to drain the fluid out properly and any fluid in the ear was just picking up bugs/infection and also creating pressure against the ear drum.

We ended up putting in grommets in his ear and never looked back after the op.

I hope the ENT sorts it out for you and Laura; and I hope it is something simple!
