I sure answers on this and I hope it doenst get taken down-for obvious reasons

my issue is were booked to go to WDW the end of Jan using our DVC--we have an Aug UY

I had banked last years points since we werent going anywhere--so I had 82 that I banked plus our 100 UY points

so when I booked this trip out of the 182 I used 121 and will bank the 61 by the end of march

so now that theres yet another variant just wondering what we should do with the Jan trip without the possibility of losing any points

we are both fully vaxxed and boostered my DH had covid last nov which increased his issue of rapid heartbeat which he had an ablation for just a few weeks ago everything went great and hes doing good

but with the new variant now were not to sure if we should even go--could disney take pity on us and let us bank the points from this year if we dont feel comfortable going this year

anyone else have to deal with this and what were the outcome

thanks

Call and explain, it’s a serious Common issue for so many people. The CDC Risk rating just Increased, Disney knows this.
most important… No Harm in Asking for Help…some Will say no, to not Ask. However, there are those that Self Advocate and come Ahead…
Wishing you the Best of Luck.

We're going in Jan, variants or not. We've gotten our boosters. Finally got PVB booked and we don't want to miss it. January is becoming one of our favorite times to visit.

Just keep your mask on, wash/sanitize often and enjoy yourselves. Disney remains one of the the safest vacationing option out there. Well, Wally World may be safer, but.....

I see this said fairly often, but I don't buy it. What are you basing this claim off of?

Anyways, I don't think any of us are in a position to advise OP on whether to go or not to go. Having underlying conditions is nothing to shrug off.

One option is to sell the reservation as-is. You could even use one of the reputable re-sale brokers to sell it for you and get some cash in your pocket to take a less risky trip or put towards the next one.

OP, if you are having doubts, I would move the trip. We have gone to disney several times since they reopened last summer. For the first few trips, it felt totally safe and covid free. Everyone had their masks on and were spaced out in lines, on transportation and in attractions. It was great. And attendance was low, which was an added bonus.

Fast forward to our last 2 visits after disney cruises. It was very different. No longer is there any social distancing. People were packed up all around us and we felt very uncomfortable - keep in mind we live in Georgia, where things have been back to normal for 1.5 years and we still felt uneasy. Add to the lack of social distancing the fact that attendance is very high. We have decided to skip the parks on our next disney cruises in January and we have zero underlying conditions plus we are vaccinated. Just too risky for us.

They are no longer making exceptions and I would not expect them to any longer.

So, if you cancel at least 31 days in advance, you’ll be able to still bank all 100 2021 points.

Those 82 banked from 2020 will be use or lose, unless you deposit into II..no longer going to be RCI.

And a reminder to all, we do not allow discussion about Covid.

I would just note that we came back from a trip yesterday, and I was very pleased by the general mask compliance and distancing respect people were exercising when you put yourself in situations to have it (no, the VGF lobby during dinner time near the gingerbread house wasn't exactly distanced :-D).

I only say that to note that maybe a solution, even if you kick the can a few weeks until warmer weather, is a resort heavy stay with limited park time. We did this because we had an infant in tow anyway, but the park crowds were manageable before lunchtime and resort pools/beach/sitting areas were frequently quiet. The to-go/mobile order options help all of this too, even if they keep you attached to your phone a bit.

You have to do what YOU feel comfortable doing. Cancelling a WDW trip is obviously a gut wrenching decision. I mean, it’s not like you are cancelling a night out with friends. These trips take months and months to plan, which obviously builds the anticipation and excitement of the trip. Because of all that, cancelling a WDW trip is not an easy decision. But if you and your husband are truly, deeply concerned about then you have to make the decision that makes you both comfortable.

All that said and since you specifically asked what we would do, me and my family would go ahead with the trip. Actually, we have a trip scheduled for mid February and there is no way we are cancelling due to fears of COVID. Quite frankly, the thought of cancelling hasn’t even crossed my mind. From all reports, the new variant’s symptoms aren’t as severe as Delta (which easily remains the most dominant variant). Over 99% of all COVID cases are related to Delta, so if you were ok traveling before the new variant (when Delta is dominating the COVID cases) why would that change now?

Agree with the prior poster, only you can decide what makes you comfortable and what doesn't.

We went in November 2021, after canceling from September 2020. Delta was/is the dominant variant. Florida numbers were high in the summer/early fall, but dropping. Mask compliance was ok.

If you don't feel comfortable going, cancel the trip, bank the 100 points and then rent out the 82 points (either by booking another reservation or renting out the points). OR see if you can rent out the confirmed reservation and then you only have 60+ points to bank.

I also agree with the two PPs, do what you think you will feel most comfortable doing.
It's only a vacation, don't take any unnecessary risks. You still have options with your points.

Partly it depends on what you feel you have to do and still enjoy your vacation. What would you feel comfortable doing? Can you limit your activity to that at WDW and still feel like your vacation is worth it?

For example: We could decide we want to go to WDW and social distance. We would have a nice room, go on relaxing walks outdoors, eat in or get take out, watch fireworks from a distance, etc...

We had to make a decision last summer when we felt very uncomfortable with Disney's decision to pull back their mask policy while younger kids were ineligible to be vaccinated. That reservation also involved banked points that needed to be used that year. Ultimately, we decided to rent our reservation and put the money towards a vacation in a destination that had requirements in place that we felt more comfortable with (Hawaii). Circumstances changed from the time we booked our trip (mask policy reduced) and I knew that our family, my kids in particular, would have a lot of concerns and I didn't want our first vacation in a long time to be overshadowed with anxiety and irritation. It was the right decision for our family to vacation in a location with stricter protocols and where we could more easily isolate on a beach or on a hike instead of in a compressed line for a ride, but everyone needs to determine their own comfort level based on their own medical or family needs. I would just consider if you think it would impact your ability to have an enjoyable vacation or not.

This thread seems to be drifting in more about covid and not about what to do with points. I am going to close it.
