Seatbelts on ME?

Does anyone know if the buses being used for ME have seatbelts? If they don't, can someone calm my concerns about having my children ride for 20 miles on the highway without them?!? I have never been on a larger touring bus, not sure how safe they are. Much thanks!

No seat belts. Buses are designed to protect the occupants in an accident without using seat belts.

Tell that to the parents from Newton, MA whose children died on a school trip to Canada (on a charter bus) a couple of years ago.

That being said, I would say that they are designed to offer some protection, high, padded seat backs for example. I wouldn't worry about the charter bus, after all school buses don't have seatbelts, and we put our children on those without a thought. While it makes me nervous not to use seatbelts, I try not to let my self worry about the bus. Buses are involved in much few accidents than cars.

As you can see from my user name I have done a lot of work in the occupant restraint field.

Buses are designed differently than cars. Yes seat belts on buses would be great but I doubt you will see them on most buses.

There will always be accidents where someone didn't survive. It's a shame but until more people demand seat belts on buses you won't see the transportation companies doing anything about it.

Do the school buses on which your children ride have seatbelts?

My children do not ride school buses yet. In fact, they are both still in car seats. So as you can see this would be a big jump for me, from car seats to no seatbelt.

As far as I am aware, most taxis do not have seatbelts readily available either. So a bus designed to protect its occupants would probably be our safest bet.

Seat belts should be available in taxis but most times they are broken or stuffed under the seat. The bus would be your best bet.
