As the title says, I'm a little confused. We are due to fly back from Miami on 30th August and have had our seats pre-booked for some time. I logged on to VA today to do our API and discovered that the seat map for the return flight is showing as view only (no changes can be made). On further investigation, it appears that we now have a different plane (was a 747, now A340-600)

Obviously, the new layout is now 2-4-2 instead of 3-4-3 and we have been split up (DS and I are together but DH is several rows in front). How likely is it that we will have a further opportunity to change seats, i.e. is it likely that this change has just happened and the seat map wil 'open up' again for changes? Or are we stuck with it and will only have the opportunity to change once we check in (online or otherwise)? Anybody know?

This happened to us a few weeks ago. When i went to check our return flight seats from Orlando it told me i had to call Virgin. When i called they told me that the plane had changed to the A330, but the seat configuration was not up yet. When i voiced my concern about being split up the lady reassured me that families with children are a priority to be seated together, and it was very unlikely we'd be split up. She said the best thing to do was to keep checking the config online and check in as early as possible. Anyway three days later when i was checking online, the old seat map was up with our original seat reservations:confused3 Now i check every day, just to make sure.

this happened to us.. keep checking the seating plan.. especially the nearer to your holiday, ours changed a few days before we flew so i was able to change our seats

All those seat plans are subject to change right up till when check in opens due to operational reasons. Used to get this all the time when i worked for va.

Pre booking your seats is not guarenteed anyway so you can change at check in stage ether online 24 hours before, twilight or day or boarding

Yeah it's happened to us a couple of times - on the Miami route VA use both the 747 and Airbus and change them sometimes. Last time we had seats reserved, which we then couldn't change until OLCI, so we changed them then, but at the airport managed to change again for better ones...
