For anyone who's seasonal and accepted a second CP or PI...

How does the "transfer" work?

Do I need to notify casting that I'm seasonal? Can I just not say anything? I'm seasonal at my old location and accepted the Fall CP (applied for the Fall PI, so this applies either way.) I'm worried about what I should be/need to be doing. I figured it was automatic and I didn't need to do anything, is this the case? I may work during the summer, so want to keep my seasonal status until my CP begins.

Also, when does the transfer happen? Can I work immediately before my CP begins?

Thanks!!

You're right, WDPR Casting Services will liaise with WDPR Internship Recruitment to handle the internal processes related to transfering you between roles. You don't need to take further action in that regard.

However, if you would like to submit Casual Temporary Availability in your current role, you would need to contact Internship Recruitment and find out your transfer effective date. After that date, you would need to utilize Extra Hours Hotline to pick up shifts in your old area.

The general rule in Florida is for transfers to take effect on Sundays, in accordance with the normal work week. As such, it's reasonable to believe that your transfer date would be the Sunday before your Disney College Program arrival date. However, it's still best to check to make sure.

I totally understand your confusion! I went through this recently and it took me about two months to finally get it all worked out.

Official transfers do go through on Sundays, so I would contact Disney to find out since you still want to work at your seasonal location. Keep in mind though that the transfer back to your seasonal status and location is NOT automatic. I assumed this too and was run all over Disney to get it figured out. I won't bother to explain all the crap I went through, but what it comes down to is that you need to do this yourself. If you don't have contact information for a manager at your seasonal location yet, get it now! Also since you are not a CP or a PI yet, talk to this manager about all this now to get their advice.

What I found out I had to do since I was already at Disney for my PI, was that I could have asked my seasonal location manager to put in a requisition form. The manager had to put this through internal transfers to have me go back to that location as a CT cast member. Keep in mind though that most likely your manager will have to contact their leader to get permission to do this. Then transfers will see if it goes through so there is an opening for you there. Once it goes through transfers, they (casting) will contact you and inform you if it went through or not. If this doesn't work then you need to go through Professional Recruitement to make an appointment to transfer to any seasonal positions that are available. For this you need to make an appointment at casting no later than 6 weeks prior to the end of your program.

I hope this was helpful since I didn't have any of this information about the "6 weeks" thing until well past that mark for me. Luckily it all worked out since my seasonal location manager was able to request me back. Also sorry this was a lot!

THANK YOU! I actually am not planning on going back to my location AFTER the CP or PI (since I won't be in school in Florida anymore, and it's going to be more difficult), I'm glad you still gave the information!

So, let me ask you this. If I DON'T plan on working immediately before the CP/PI (say maybe I might get a chance to work in June, but I leave for the CP in August), I don't have to do anything right? It's only IF I want to work right up until the CP (say the couple days before it starts) Right?

Thank you again! (Both of you!)

ok, so I'm applying to be A CP again and I was under the impression that you don't get a transfer date, you get a rehire date and you start over and your rehire date is your first day at traditions...

so i guess one is that not true will be keep out first hire date if its look at as a transfer and if its look at as a transfer do we not have to do traditions again?

Great question! Hopefully some more people pop over to this thread.

I'm a seasonal cast member doing the summer alumni program in May and I was wondering the same thing actually. I know my work location will likely be different, but after the program ends it seems like my seasonal status will be gone. I'm going to talk to my current area leaders and let them know the situation that I'd like to return to CT status with them when my program is over. Would that be the logical course to take?

Also, am I going to have to do traditions and e-learning/merchantainment again (same role, last time worked was in August)?

You only need to take the action I gave IF you want to be seasonal after your new CP/PI. Otherwise, I don't think you have to worry about anything.

As to several of the questions about traditions...when I returned from being seasonal to my PI, I did not have to take traditions again because I was already working for the company. I think they also said if you had traditions within a certain time period then you didn't have to take it again, but I can't remember how long.

Also any of you who currently work for Disney and have a red ID, be sure to ask your new manager if your ID will be excepted for the ENTIRE LENGTH of your internship. I had a red ID prior to my PI and was told it was fine because it was current/valid. Then about mid-November (I was a Fall PI) I found out that my ID would not be accepted as of January 1, 2010 to get me past security, even though my program ended on January 7th. I had to go to Access Control to get a white ID to last me to the end of my program, then go back after to get my red ID back because I was seasonal again...

GREAT information! Thank you a ton. I was actually wondering about the ID too. :) Thanks again!!!

ooh thank you! yaya for keeping my red ID! I love it (though if I get in again I will have to change it at the very and to white and then back to red)

This is very helpful hopfully I wont have to retain at all then if I get in cuz I've applyed for the same area as before.

Here's another question:

I really want to try and sign up for the Candlelight Processional. I know you have to go online at a certain time in August to do so. Assuming that my transfer will go through on the 8th (Sunday) and my CP starts on the 9th (Monday), what happens if the Candlelight Processional sign up is before this date, and I get in? Since I was technically "transferred", does this mean I will still be able to do it? I won't get a whole new account, right? Sorry if that question sounds confusing!

Also, will my hire date be my original CP hire date, or the new one?

Thanks! :)

You will continue to have access to The Hub during the entire process. As long as you don't separate from the Company between now and then, there shouldn't be a problem.

Since Florida-Site Disney College Program Participants are also considered Casual Temporary Cast Members, your Hire Date shouldn't be effected. However, if you were to transition into a Full Time or Casual Regular position after the conclusion of your program, you would receive an Adjusted Service Date, which would be used as a de facto new hire date from that point forward.
