Just read this on Allears -- so thought I'd pass it along --

Seasonal Pricing Returns May 24 - July 11, 2009 at these locations: 1900 Park Fare, Akershus, Biergarten, Boma, Cape May Café, Chef Mickey’s, Cinderella’s Royal Table, Crystal Palace, Garden Grill, Hollywood and Vine, Liberty Tree Tavern (dinner only), ‘Ohana, Trails End, Tusker House. Prices will increase $4 for ages 10 and above and $2 for those 3-9.

Just an FYI, this is not a new policy--they did this last year too, for about the same time frame: it's a reminder that Disney is a for-profit business. They'll charge whatever they figure out people will pay. Apparently enough of them paid the surcharge last year since they're repeating it this year. As PP said, good reason to use the DDP - surcharge doesn't affect the price with the DDP:thumbsup2

Yikes - No big deal if your on the DDP, but yikes if your not!

And this is one reason why I am not a fan of the DDP. Without that program, we would not see this increase, IMO.

Also I have found that many of the restaurants are increasing their prices more than $4. I called about the Crystal Palace and Garden Grill and each of those are $6 more than the normal prices. We were going to eat there on this trip, but not now. Those are some ADR's we won't be using.

They didn't do it last year in late June when I was there. We ate at Crystal Palace and Garden Grill (lunch before they stopped doing it there) and there was no surcharge. This is the first year they have done this for a regular summer day. They used to only charge extra for actual holidays.

Don't know how you missed it...it was there. Click on the link below, and scroll down to post #8 by Disboards moderator TDC Nala on these very Disboards from last year detailing the dates & info on the holiday surcharge in 2008:

Yeah I don't know how we missed it either, but I looked back on our credit card statements and we were not charged a surcharge. It averaged out to about $19 a person for our lunches at Garden Grill and Crystal Palace. Don't know what happened there.

Supply and demand. I have absolutely no problem with this... why wouldn't they do this??? It's the same reason why it costs more to stay at a Disney hotel on December 25th than January 25th.

It's not nickel and dime because it's $4.

How many adults; how many children; and are you sure the base price hasn't increased from last year (many have)?

It's Disney's way of trying to get everyone on the dining plan IMHO.

For us (family of 6 with 2 adults 2 "disney adults" and 2 children) it just doesn't make sense financially to do it. So I won't. We are not doing all the character meals we normally would do. I am biting the bullet and paying the surcharge for CP. Just because we've never eaten there and I want to try it. But other than that - no thanks.

And last year we were there the same week are going this year and the surcharge was in place- we didn't eat at any buffets at all that trip. (guess our protest didn't work lol)
