What are your pickup and return locations? Many agencies frequently let customers pickup their car in one Florida location but drop it off in another location without a drop charge.

Otherwise look at the total rental price. A customer who rents a car in the NE but wants to drop off the car in Florida will be putting a lot of miles on the car. Unless the rental agency is looking to reposition cars (seasonally) the agency will want to be compensated for the high miles. Sometimes a drop charge. Sometimes limited (or no) free miles. Sometimes all discounts will be blacked out. There won't be a drop fee itemized but the total price will be high.

TY! looking to drive from Connecticut to Fl. Good advice.

Is it an option to keep it while you're in FL and return it to the same place in CT? Most of the car rental companies I've seen always charge a fee when dropping it off in a different location.

Another thing you may find is if you're looking up a quote for say 6 days, changing it to 7 days for a weekly rate might be cheaper. Sometimes I find the weekly rates are cheaper than consecutive daily rates, even if I don't really need it for a week.

I don't know if this was a fluke or what, but I rented a car in Phoenix and dropped it off in Anaheim, and got an absolutely screamin' deal from National in March. Booked directly through them.

Check for flukes! :)
