First of all, I'd like to apologize in advance, as I'm sure these questions have been asked and answered a million times before. We've never done Universal, and it sounds enchanting, so I'm researching the possibility of a trip maybe this summer. So, I'm hoping some kind sould will answer the following:

• How long does it take to do both parks?
• What's the transportation like if you're staying at RPR?
• How far in advance do you have to book a room in RPR?
• What's the deposit policy room only?

Hello Mort

Ideally, you should allow two days to properly see both parks.
From the RPR you can walk to the parks in ten minutes. You can also take a boat or a bus. The boat takes about 5 minutes but they run about every 15 minutes or so.
Booking the RPR depends on the popularity of the season. To get a good deal, though, you need to book a few months in advance, the are many good discounts available.
You need to give one night's deposit, which is refundable if you cancel within, I think, 24 hours.

It looks like people are getting the best rates for second half of August if you can travel then. If you don't already have one, you may want to get an entertainment book so you can qualify for the entertainment rate.

I guess I should also apologize, since there's a separate forum for Resort questions, I probably should have posted my RPR questions there Well, now that I have the important info, there only remains the difficult task of convincing DH and DS to do a theme park vacation in August.

I would leave three days if possible for the two parks so that you can go back the third day and hit any shows or rides you missed or liked. The slow season has the best hotel rates, and you should book them as far ahead as possible as discount rates go quickly. The entertainment card rate seems to be the best I have heard of, and I recently booked a room at the RPR for $119/night during the week of 8/23-8/27. The cost rose to $152 on weekends. Prices in the peak summer hours when I called were anywhere from $170-210.
You can walk or take the water taxi to the parks. It takes less time to walk and is a nice, relaxing, scenic walk.
