Thanks for the info.
Do you know if you can turn the 50% special needs and companion tickets into the 7 day anytime tickets as well???

Did Seaworld state how you go about getting the 50% off tickets? Do you need a drs note? I ask because my dd has high functioning autism (the so-called "invisible disease") so her issues are not something that is readily visible on the outside.

Thank You.
:thumbsup2

Just my OPINION, perhaps someone else who has actually been to SeaWorld could also comment:

By law they can't ask you for a drs. note.
I would ASSUME that you go to a ticket window and simply ask for a handicap ticket as well as a companion ticket.

I did this this last spring at Marineland (Canada) and the person looked at my DD and said "well, shes not in a wheelchair". I then nicely told her that no , she is not in a wheelchair but she is a special needs individual, therefore able to purchase this type of ticket. From there, there were no problems whatsoever.

It might help if you email seaworld , tell them your childs issues and ask them is she would be able to purchase the 50% off ticket. Then they will email you back the answer. You can then print out the email and take it with you in case you run into any difficulties when purchasing tickets.

I believe the criteria for the 50% off ticket is not diagnose based, but needs based similar to the GAC at Disney. Basically, if the speical needs person may not be reasonably able to enjoy the attractions, it is my understanding that they would qualify for the ticket. As you are well aware, an ASD individual may suffer a severe meltdown as soon as they walk through the gate, therefore, the family may have to leave for the day. It is this reason the discount ticket is available for ASD kids/companions.

Perhaps someone who has been to SeaWorld with an ASD child could comment???

When we went last year I just told them I needed 4 tickets and pointed out my 2 daughters that are in wheelchair and we got 4 tickets at 50% off.

We just went to sea world in San Diego and they did ask for proof because my condition and my friends are invisable and we both showed our Handicap placards and they gave us a discount I am not sure how much it was because he paid.

I was told it was for people travelling in a w/c because they could not be expected to reasonably enjoy all the attractions. I found it strange as Sea World has many accessible shows and attractions and very few "rides" so I'm not sure why someone in a chair can't enjoy the park and/or need a discount. This is the reasoning used at WDW- people in a chair have many things to enjoy besides the rides so there is no discount.---Kathy

I was at Sea World in February with two special needs adults. One of them is autistic and the other is bi-polar with mild MR. Neither of them uses a wheelchair. I do not think that many people would recognize that they have special needs by looking at them. If you started up a conversation with either of them then you would notice. (My autistic guy loves to ski and is so good at it that some of the employees at the local ski resort wanted to know if he would be an instructor! His staff had to explain that he was autistic and did not talk very much. The employees were shocked.) I had no problem getting the discount. The person at the window just asked where the two individuals were and I told her right behind me. She did not question it at all.

Do you think that this would be applicable to Sea World San Diego as well? I am going in less than 2 weeks and DS has autism, it's not readily apparent unless he is in meltdown mode.

Mel yes we just went there but it was just me and an adult friend that is Bipolar with schizophrenia. We are both adults with invisable illnesses (I have fibromyalgia) and we asked for the discount and they asked who was disabled we said we are and they asked if I had anything that says I am disabled on it so we showed them our DMV handicap placard. (the part that has our names) and an ID. Others have said that you don't need it but they seem to really have wanted it in california which we did not mind showing no biggy. Also at Knotts berry farm you have to have some proof to get a GAC there. So maybe the laws are a bit differant here? Give them a call and find out just to be safe. I hope you have fun while you are there.

I went to Seaworld San Diego. We had four people in wheelchairs and my Dad. I have a trach and feeding tube also. The companion gets a 50% discount if the person with a disability cannot fully or safely enjoy the park alone. My Dad has to do my food, meds, suction, and help me in the bathroom. So he got the discounted tickets. We got the San Diego 3 for 1 tickets. We actually got our tickets at the San Diego Zoo. We got 50% off there, too. We went to the zoo 2 days and Sea World 3.

Autism, Alzheimers, schizophrenia, etc qualify. They do ask what kind of assistance/limitaions you have. And they ask the caregiver how they help.

If you're in a rented chair (my Grandma had one-severe arthritis, heart disease, macular degeneration) or are not 'visably' disabled you get a bit more scrutiny.

To get the tickets go to Guest Relations. You cannot get the tickets online or at the ticket window. You can only get them at Guest Relations.
