We are traveling on Saturday for a 7 night cruise and my mother asked me if there is anything other than Dramamine that she could take to prevent sea sickness without causing drowsiness. Is there a shot that Disney has that they can give to you? Or should we purchase some Sea Bands? and if we sould get them, where do they sell them.

Thanks

Jordan

Take Bonine. You can do a search on it and get different responses on what to take.

You should be fine. If you are doing an Eastern Cruise take one tablet on Sunday just to be sure and that way you can get use to things. Easterns are more rocky than westerns. The westerns you shouldn't need much if anything @ all. If for some strange reason you or your family needs more the Medical Center posts information to help prevent sea sickness.

The best thing I have found is the non-drowsy dramamine, and sea bands.

The ship is so smooth though...she may not need them. I have terrible motion sickness, I take dramamine in the morning before going to the port, and have only had to put my sea bands on once..the very first night we ever sailed.

Hi Joe- We are sailing at the same time. I ,too, was worried about the motion sickness. I also have it on the little boats. I never needed anything on the Magic last year when we were on the Eastern cruise. From what people say above, the western is smoother??!! Sounds great to me!
They do provide meds on the boat if needed.

There is Bonine (Meclizine), also called Non-Drowsy Dramamine available outside the first aid center. I always take it the night before the cruise to make sure it has taken effect. Sometimes the first night, crossing the Gulf Stream, can be slightly rocky. I stopped taking it after that.

Dramamine turns me into a sleepy zombie, but I do fine with the Bonine.

For an all natural remedy try "ginger". You can purchase it at health food stores - read the label --- I tried it, being queasy by nature,
.....and it worked. Not drowsy. I don't know how the actors managed during Herc, as the ship was rocking side to side. And, just like the parks, when it rains and the ponchos are everywhere, as soon as the rocking started, the wrist bands showed up.

Anyway - Ginger worked for me but you have to take it before you feel sick. I saw Ginger Altoids (sp?) at Target - wonder if they will work. Ginger Ale is touted by some as well...

I love ginger Altoids, but they don't seem to help me.

This is my source for ginger - The Ginger People

A bit of their ginger juice in some 7up (regular soda with sugar) really helps. If I'm not sick and I'm just drinking it for maintenence, I drink it with Diet 7up and a little pineapple juice. :drinking1

Between drinks, I prefer the Gin-Gins and my DH likes the chews.

My family and I did the patch that you get by perscription. You put it on the night before and it lasts 72 hours then has to be replaced by another patch. It is non drowsy. My DH and DD had no problems with it. I had a problem after the cruise with still feeling like I was on the ship for 2 weeks.
There are a lot of choices out there so do some research and decide what is best for you! :flower:

I got back Saturday from my first cruise. Started taking Bonine on the day before we left on the ship. No side effects and no illness to report. Of course I don't think I was ever prone to motion sickness. I will tell you however I became ill on the 12 metre Regatta. Never saw it coming :(

Found them in my drug store (Longs Drugs). Haven't tried them though. Also, I guess they have a web site, but don't know if you'll be able to receive them in time. Hope this helps.

The best treatment we have found is a combination of Dramamine2 and ginger pills.
