Sea Shells

Does anyone know if there are any sea shells to be found in Nassau or Castaway Cay. (I'm talking about shells on the beach, not to buy in any stores.) The DH and I always enjoy sea shell hunting, but since I've never been anywhere except PC Beach and Myrtle Beach, I wasn't sure what the sea shell supply was like in the Bahamas.

if i remember correctly, the CMs will make several announcements to request that no one take any sea shells or other natural treasures off of castaway cay. it should be left there for others to enjoy....but i didn't remember seeing any pretty sea shells there.

we did collect a few when we were at st. maartens. those shells were as white as can be.

The beach on CC was FULL of sea shells. They were all over...some cooler than others...we didn't do a whole lot of hunting...but I'm sure if we did we could have found some real nice finds. There were even a few conch shells out in the lagoon. Of course we didn't get any of those....however we would have liked to. I'm not sure if the enourmous amount of shells on CC is normal...or if it was due to the hurricane that just went through.

My rememberance of what the shells are like on CC are that they are small and broken up. Nothing that you would want to bring home - unless you live a long way from an ocean - then they might look like real finds!

On our November 2004 cruise, there were a lot of shells in the snorkeling lagoon at Castaway Cay. Some of them were so nice, I suspect that they were placed there. We also found a fair sized conch shell. My daughter picked it up, and it had a big hermit crab in it! There were many announcements to the effect that we were not to take any shells with us, and we didn't. You are supposed to leave them there for everyone to enjoy.

There were no shells of any significance in Dec.

I found some wonderful Angel sea shells on CC..they are yellow, red and white striped (pastel colors) ..I found them whole and I found some cool dead corals.

Was on CC 1-1-05 and was also told by several CM that we should NOT take any shells off the beach. I of course had to take a few anway with some sand in one of those Tiny Bottles...

Sorry but Yes I stole seashells from CC..

Anyway they were very very small and nothing your DD will probably like anyway but I think it does matter what time of year and weather conditions when your trip is.
