Here are my experiences regarding rope drop at MK. First, are you truly going to stand out in front of the rail station, or are you willing to wait near the left or right entrance? Standing out in the middle allows hundreds of people to enter the park before you do. Waiting near one of the "tunnels" puts you among the first 50 people that enter park. It also allows you to follow the walking rope down main street as opposed to being hundreds of people back from the rope.
Arrive at the "turnstiles" about 45-50 minutes before the scheduled opening. Plan ahead regarding transportation to ensure you arrive in this window.
Once they let you through the turnstiles make a beeline to the left or right tunnel and wait until they conclude the show. I acknowledge that from this vantage point you will not be able to actually see most of the show.......but you will definitely hear it!
If you are close to the rope and stay to the right of center, you will follow the CMs to SDMT and you will be loaded in the first 3-5 minutes of operation. If you are 100-300 people back from the rope it may take 10-25 minutes to get your ride. If you are 300-500 people back, expect a long wait.
I feel the rope drop strategy will be better than gambling on hitting the ride after breakfast.
Yes, the line builds quickly and fastpasses are often exhausted quickly as well.
