Scuba Diving Requirements?

I just received the excursion booklet in the mail. I've booked the 2-tank dive in Grand Cayman, and according to the brochure I'll need to show my certification card and must have dived in the past two years.

Do I have to show proof of having dove in the past two years? Like a log book or something? I've never been one to log my dives. Or do you just tell them you have?

Yes, that means you need your logbook.

It's a good idea for anyone that has not been diving for a year or more to do a refresher dive.

Honestly, I would not dive with an operator who let someone in the water without verifying their background and experience. It puts everyone on the dive at risk.

I know everyone thinks they remember, but I've seen every level from open water to dive masters get in trouble because they blanked on something simple. Better safe than sorry.

I dive regularly, so a refresher course isn't needed. It's just that I don't keep a log book (call me lazy). I dive a lot with family on their boat, so I've never been asked to show a log to anyone.

Would it look to fishy (ahem) to buy a log and fill in my last couple years of activity?

I would fill it in the best you can. Even better is if you were diving with any DM's that could sign off on those dives. I used to just carry just my computer with me, as it logs all my dives, but in the past few years I've been asked for my log book more and more. I'm lucky to have a live in PADI Instructor that can sign off all my dives though.

Hi Scott,

You will love diving Grand Cayman. We did it last year with disney. You will be asked for your cert and log. Log what you can remember.
I love my log book. It helps me recall details about my dive. Fond Memories.
You will also be offered ,(for a price of course), a dvd of your dive with you as the star.
