"Screw It-I'm Going to Disney" aka trying to plan a vacation in just over a month.
Hi! I'm Christine. I'm 24, a Maine native transplanted to the DC area, and I work as a writer for an online publication. I've been to WDW a bunch of times, but I haven't been since 2007.
My friend Courtney, who posts on here as CourtneyBelle, was accepted in to the DCP Fall Advantage program, and I figured this was as good a time as any to take a trip down to Orlando to visit her and mark my triumphant return to the World.
So, long story short, I got bored one day, said "Screw it! I want to go to Disney," and to my surprise, I found a reasonably affordable flight to Orlando for the second week in September. I then went to Disney.com and saw an $80/night deal for rooms in Pop Century for that week, and realized "Uh, wait, this can actually happen."
After seeing this deal and triple-checking to make sure that my trip wouldn't conflict with any of the upcoming primary debates (the dates I had first considered did, and I was crushed), I emailed my boss requesting the three days after Labor Day off. After an agonizing two-hour wait, she finally emailed back her approval. Awwww yisss.
So yeah--after an eight-year absence, I'm going back to Disney!
Now for the boring intro stuff:
Here's me (and my boss's puppy):
My favorite park is EPCOT, my favorite restaurant is 'Ohana, my favorite ride is The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, my favorite show is Muppet*Vision 3D, my favorite princess is Belle, and my favorite World Showcase country is Canada. My favorite Disney movies are Beauty and the Beast, Lilo and Stitch, Miracle, D2: The Mighty Ducks, and High School Musical.
Anyhow, this will be a quasi-solo trip and I'll be focusing on seeing things that may not be exactly "new," but are "new-to-me." The last time I went to WDW, Disney's Magical Express didn't exist and neither did Magic Bands--so a lot of things have changed!
(Bonus picture of me and my brother from our last trip. He is now taller than I am, and that hat has been demolished.)
I'm flying by the seat of my pants on this and I'm not 100% sure how this is all going to work, but it's going to be a blast. I hope. I'm trying to save money (recognizing that obviously, this is still going to be an expensive trip), so I've been lurking on the budget boards and I'm partaking in No Buy August. Any tips or tricks would certainly be appreciated!
Who: Me! Unless I can convince one of my friends to join. Plus a probable guest appearance from Courtney.
What: Reliving childhood, escaping the "real world" and taking a much-needed break from politics and work for a few days.
Where: Flying from DCA to MCO, then staying at Pop Century for three nights.
When: Sept. 7 through Sept. 10.
Why: Why not?
See ya real soon!
