"Screw It-I'm Going to Disney" aka trying to plan a vacation in just over a month.

Hi! I'm Christine. I'm 24, a Maine native transplanted to the DC area, and I work as a writer for an online publication. I've been to WDW a bunch of times, but I haven't been since 2007.

My friend Courtney, who posts on here as CourtneyBelle, was accepted in to the DCP Fall Advantage program, and I figured this was as good a time as any to take a trip down to Orlando to visit her and mark my triumphant return to the World.

So, long story short, I got bored one day, said "Screw it! I want to go to Disney," and to my surprise, I found a reasonably affordable flight to Orlando for the second week in September. I then went to Disney.com and saw an $80/night deal for rooms in Pop Century for that week, and realized "Uh, wait, this can actually happen."

After seeing this deal and triple-checking to make sure that my trip wouldn't conflict with any of the upcoming primary debates (the dates I had first considered did, and I was crushed), I emailed my boss requesting the three days after Labor Day off. After an agonizing two-hour wait, she finally emailed back her approval. Awwww yisss.

So yeah--after an eight-year absence, I'm going back to Disney!

Now for the boring intro stuff:

Here's me (and my boss's puppy):

My favorite park is EPCOT, my favorite restaurant is 'Ohana, my favorite ride is The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, my favorite show is Muppet*Vision 3D, my favorite princess is Belle, and my favorite World Showcase country is Canada. My favorite Disney movies are Beauty and the Beast, Lilo and Stitch, Miracle, D2: The Mighty Ducks, and High School Musical.

Anyhow, this will be a quasi-solo trip and I'll be focusing on seeing things that may not be exactly "new," but are "new-to-me." The last time I went to WDW, Disney's Magical Express didn't exist and neither did Magic Bands--so a lot of things have changed!

(Bonus picture of me and my brother from our last trip. He is now taller than I am, and that hat has been demolished.)

I'm flying by the seat of my pants on this and I'm not 100% sure how this is all going to work, but it's going to be a blast. I hope. I'm trying to save money (recognizing that obviously, this is still going to be an expensive trip), so I've been lurking on the budget boards and I'm partaking in No Buy August. Any tips or tricks would certainly be appreciated!

Who: Me! Unless I can convince one of my friends to join. Plus a probable guest appearance from Courtney.

What: Reliving childhood, escaping the "real world" and taking a much-needed break from politics and work for a few days.

Where: Flying from DCA to MCO, then staying at Pop Century for three nights.

When: Sept. 7 through Sept. 10.

Why: Why not?

See ya real soon!

1. What I've Done So Far

Hahahaha.

I grew up with a super Type-A mother who had my childhood Disney trips planned down to the second. While I made my first Disney trip as an infant, the first trip I actually remember came in either 1999 or 2000 (I think 2000), and we stayed at Dixie Landings for a week. We went back in Feb. 2002 for 10 days at Port Orleans Riverside, and my parents bought DVC membership that trip. We stayed at the Beach Club Villas in 200...5(?) and again in 2007. Between college, sports schedules (we're a hockey family) and other things, we just haven't made time to go back since then.

Needless to say, this trip will not be as meticulously planned as the ones of my youth.

(I'm watching a different Disney movie each day to psych myself up--so far I've watched Mulan, Pocahontas, Lilo and Stitch, Tarzan, and Hercules. I'm thinking Brother Bear for tomorrow?)

So far, I'm thinking of the following itinerary:

9/7: Arrive Pop Century, hang out by pool, go to Boardwalk/DTD/Trader Sam's, relax, have an easy night in.

9/8: EPCOT. I have nothing booked yet, but I'm considering Biergarten because of how they do the communal seating so I won't be the most awkward human alive eating alone. My must-do for today is the new Test Track and attempting to drink my way around the world. (Or at least through Europe.) I'm going to EPCOT to take advantage of EMH as well as seeing Illuminations one last time before its (rumored) replacement.

9/9: Magic Kingdom. I managed to score an 8:10 ADR for BOG breakfast today, which was SUPER exciting. I had originally booked an 8:45 ADR, but I hit refresh a few times a few hours later and saw an 8:10. While I'm a bit bummed to miss the opening show...I'm going to Be Our Guest! Early! My must-dos for today are the Mine Train, Enchanted Tales With Belle, the new Little Mermaid ride, the Jungle Cruise, and all three of the mountains. Plus Wishes so I can bawl my eyes out.

This was me when I booked BOG, as I had basically given up all hope of eating there on such short notice:

9/10: Hollywood Studios and leaving. I'm hoping to do Toy Story Mania and Muppet*Vision 3D (which never gets old), and whatever else time allows me. My flight is at 7PM, so I have nearly a full day in the parks before leaving.

2. Adulting is Hard 8/9

I had to work all weekend, which means I had to stay home and be on my computer at all times in case crazy news broke. Naturally, my time tended to be more "Disney planning" related than actual work related...whoops!

In terms of actual "planning," I booked an ADR for 50's Prime Time lunch at 12:40--It's my favorite Hollywood Studios restaurant. I'm still waiting to receive my tickets so I can link them to my My Disney Experience profile (my CM friend is getting them for me), so I haven't been able to book any FP+ just yet. Given that the near-unanimous sentiment on the internet is that the parks will be nearly abandoned this week (plus my early-entry ADR to Magic Kingdom), I'm not overly worried. It won't be the end of the world if I don't get to ride Space Mountain.

The last time I went to Disney, Disney Bounding wasn't a thing. I'm not really all that crafty, but part of me wants to try my hand at dressing up as Belle during my Magic Kingdom day. I've been brainstorming ideas on Pinterest. I hope this isn't too cheesy.

Anyhow, I've continued my Disney movie spree. I'm watching Brother Bear right now. It's cute.

Back to the work grind tomorrow...

3. FastPasses, Park Tickets, and MagicBands OH MY! 8/10-8/12

Well then.

So this (planning, being a grownup, etc.) is all very new to me. Plus WDW is *so* different from the last time I visited.

Anyhow.

I finally acquired my park tickets via my CM friend, so I got to experience the lovely world of planning out fastpasses. HOLY CATS was it stressful! I got everything I wanted minus Seven Dwarves Mine Train, but since I'll be in the park so early for my BOG breakfast I'm not overly worried about it. I'm so excited to finally get the chance to play TSM.

My FP+s so far:
EPCOT: Soarin, 9:05-10:05, Character Spot, 10:20-11:20, and Mission: Space, 11:45-12:45.
Magic Kingdom: Space Mountain, 10:15-11:15, Enchanted Tales with Belle, 11:20-12:20 (!!!), and Peter Pan's Flight, 12:20-1:20.
Hollywood Studios: Tower of Terror, 9:15-10:15, Toy Story Midway Mania 10:15-11:15, and Star Tours, 11:25-12:25. (then I go home :guilty:)

I also received my first piece of Mickey Mail! I got my luggage tags and Magical Express info.

and then...my Magic Band showed up today!!

11870797_10204755502466997_8483468234979382875_n.jpg

and I ordered a monogram decal off of Etsy today to decorate it. I didn't realize decorating your MagicBand was a thing until I joined DIS!

I've kept up with my movie-a-night plan. I watched Miracle yesterday to commemorate the anniversary of Herb Brooks' death. I watched The Emperor's New Groove the day before.

I just can't believe how much left I have to plan...and pay for! 26 more days!

4. Odds and Ends 8/13-8/25

Wowzers I've neglected this--but there's really not all that much to report on. We're officially in the waiting game.

Not much has really changed since my last update. I ordered some pins off of Amazon to trade (legit ones, don't worry!) and I'm still waiting on my monogram decal to come in for my Magic Band.

I also received a park guide which told me how to set up my FastPass+...a little teeny bit late on that one I think! :rotfl: It's really crazy how fast the time has flown and how soon I'm going to be there! My CM friend finds out her schedule on Saturday--I really hope we're able to get dinner together one of the days.

My coworkers are officially sick of me talking about Disney. Oh well!

Tomorrow's the day! I'm packing now...and I can't believe this is actually happening.

I leave at 10:15 and arrive in Orlando around 12:30. Then it's off to Pop Century and the parks!
