Anyone ever get paid to scrapbook? I'm thinking of starting to do this on the side for extra money. I have done several wedding and anniversary books as gifts and could use them as samples to show my work. I'm not sure how much to charge or even how to start to get business. I have 2 LSS's but I am not sure if they would let me out anything up and agree to buy supplies from their store. My biggest problem though is what to charge. Do I lump all supplies and labor into one group or should I charge by the page/number of pictures?

My LSS is holding classes this month with this specific topic. She is providing handouts of sample contracts, pricing sheets, etc. I am attending later this month. I would be happy to pass along what I get.

Another avenue to look at is eBay. There are a few people who sell premade pages, all the buyer has to do is insert their own pictures. I have bought two beautiful layouts from a lady who does phenomenal work. Her Disney pages are fantastic!

She gets around $25 for a 2 page 12x12 layout, plus shipping. Sometimes the bids go higher.

I took a look at some of the premade pages on ebay and a lot of them were cool. I don't think I'll buy any of them, but I think the layouts are going to be a great (free) source of inspiration.

Once I get better at scrapbooking (I'm relatively new), I'll be inspiration only! :thumbsup2

I thought her pages were sooooo clever, and the castle is one of the best elements I have ever seen. I just love it! She also did a Haunted Mansion set that had the "stretching" portraits that actually stretched! I wish I had just an ounce of her creativity.

Thanks, I'd appreciate it

I checked out that seller's layouts on Ebay. They certainly are nice, but I wonder if she's going to run into a problem. She's using a lot of Disney copyrighted stuff and I know Disney is big on enforcing that. It's one thing to come up with your own designs - it's another thing to use the actual paper they sell in the parks.

Really? I had no idea! Oh my goodness, I hope I didn't cause any trouble...

So, as an extension then, wouldn't almost anyone that sold pre-made pages or custom scrapbooks be infringing on copyrights? I'm sure Jolee's and most other big suppliers would have copyrights on their products, right? Heaven knows I couldn't make the papers!

Wow, that's scary!

I don't think that Jolee's would have a problem with it. Most people are using those as embellishments on their pages even if they are selling them. Jolee's is making the money either way because the scrapper/wholeseller has to pay them for the stuff in the first place.

Disney, I think, tends to be more overzealous with protecting items they have created.

These legal issues are interesting. Someone I know had told me that Stampin' Up had copyright issues with people selling cards and such made with their products on ebay a few years back.

At what point has a company selling crafting products made their fair share of the revenue?

Could you sell scrapbook layouts with items made with the Mickey and Friends and Mickey Font cartridges?

Shauna, please let us know if your class covers the legal aspects of this topic.

Sure thing! And I was off on the date. I'm going on August 22.

I found it interesting too, some things are made with a Cricut cart, and the copyright on that is specific "things can not be sold on the internet"...only at local craft shows...I checked. So, there are going to be a few people on Ebay that are going to get the little "copyright" letter, and have their things pulled if Provocraft gets wind if it.

So, using cricut diecuts on a layout and selling on ebay, that is copyright infringement...sticky issues....

What about fonts - are Microsoft going to coe after everyone for that too?;)

Hmmmmm... do they have the copyright on those things? :confused3

I know I had something on ebay years ago, was a bracelet...counted points like the Weight Watchers ones...next day it was pulled and I get a letter saying it was copyright infringement. If I tried to relist I was going to lose my privileges.

I also had something pulled that was listed as HP (hand painted). The HP computer people were getting crazy about their copyright of the "HP"...I couldn't believe it. Relisted as "Hand Painted" and it sold...

That's why when I got my Cricut I checked the angel policy, and it said no internet...and I took that to mean ebay too.

In their information about becoming a Cricut retailer, it says that sales on any internet auction site is strictly prohibited. There are lots of carts and machines on ebay from people who are obviously retailers without a "brick and mortar store".

They must not be too strict about the copyright as far as layouts online, because I've seen people advertise on their message boards that they are putting something they've made up for auction.
