Hey guys,

I loved the review of the Sunrise Safari. We spent some time at AKL last fall and LOVED it.

Would you think that the Sunrise Safari was worth doing a split stay for? At the moment, we're booked at GF RPC for the week, but your review sort of makes me want to spend a night or two at ALK Concierge, just for the safari.

Caveat: we're going in August, so we're not going to be spending a lot of time on the surface of the sun (DAK)

Thanks.

This is just my opinion, but I would book a night at AKL concierge just to be able to do Sunrise Safari again. It was so informative and enjoyable. Getting a chance to do the regular Kilimanjaro route with the benefit of being able to really stop and soak in the view and the animals is priceless (and the breakfast is pretty darn good as well). Keep in mind that Sunrise Safari is only done on certain days (I think Thu and Sun), so take that into account when planning.

We did it two years ago! I guess it wasn't an official 'split stay' since we stayed at AKL the rest of the week, but we did have to check out and check back in to a non-concierge room. It was totally worth it! They offered us the opportunity to stay in the same room (they would have just given us new room keys that didn't have access to the 6th floor), but we asked for a different room because the one we were in had a terrible view. Everybody was hugely helpful and never gave us any grief about switching rooms.

We also had a few minutes to ask the animal guy (his name was George) about the animals at the lodge itself. We spent the rest of the week checking the savannahs for our favorite Ankole cattle 'Bubba'. He had an inner ear infection and was walking around with his head tilted to the side. He was pretty easy to spot! That's just one way the Sunrise Safari 'plussed' our visit. I'd pay almost anything to hear George talk about his animals. He knew absolutely everything and it was clear how much he cared about their safety and well-being.

HTH!

My Sunrise Safari experience was in 2003, and I would absolutely book concierge to do this again. I'd also want to try the Sunset (Wanyama) Safari (with dinner at Jiko included) if that is still offered.

Add to me the list of people who love it! We did the Sunrise Sarari last year and it was worth every penny.

Do whatever you have to so you can experience it. One night at AKL concierge is a great idea to gain access to the safari. Have a great time....
