Scotland ABD questions for Outlander fans

Hello,

I am considering a Scotland ABD trip for 2017, but I noticed that there is not a visit to Culloden Moor anywhere on the itinerary for the days in Inverness. As a huge Outlander fan, I cannot imagine going all the way to Inverness and not seeing Culloden Moor. Has anyone who has done this trip been able to take some time away from the group and gone see Culloden or anything else on your own? Maybe in place of the farewell to Inverness dinner at the hotel?

Are you talking about the Culloden Battlefield (I haven't read Outlander)? I and some other folks arranged through the Adventure Guides to get dropped off there on the way back from Rothiemurchus, I think it was. They arranged for a car to pick us up a few hours later, and drop us off in town in Inverness. There was plenty of time. But they have re-arranged the days a bit.

I just noticed they've replaced the Balmoral with the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. It's at the other end of Princes street, closer to the Castle.

We did the same thing as Sayhello during our 2013 Scotland ABD, although it was less organized. The Adventure Guides did arrange for us to be dropped off at Culloden on the way back from Rothiemurcus, but there was no transportation arranged back to the hotel in Inverness. There were about 8 of us who got dropped off. We called cabs from the Culloden visitor center, but one group of 2 got stuck for a while waiting for a cab. Sounds like this led to a change of the Adventure Guides arranging transportation back.

We were on the same trip with Calfan. I imagine if you let the guides know ahead of time arrangements can be made to be dropped off at Culloden. I am pretty sure you wouldn't be the only one that wants to visit.

No this was "on your own time" and the drop off at Culloden was in lieu of being dropped off at the hotel.

I'm not sure there'll be such time in the newest itineraries.

Thank you for the responses! I am waiting back on a response from the ABD rep, but it appears I would have to skip an activity or a dinner in order to squeeze in it.
