I asked the nurse for a prescription for the patch, when I picked it up, it was for Scopace pills. I get really sea sick. Do the pills work as well or better than the patch? Any experience or opinions would be welcome. I can ask them to change the prescip. if necessary.

I would also like to know if anyone has had experience with the pills. Alternative motion sickness remedies such as ginger and meclizine don't work for DD, but she's always done well on the patch.

Because I am a patch user, I just did a little research online about pills vs. patch--I am interested in this question too! The main difference I read that made sense was that with the pills, the drug wears off in 6-8 hours, which means that you don't have the medication in your body the entire cruise if you don't need it. I only need the patch on the first night and the last night. With the pills, you have control over the dosage.

Also, you won't get the fingers to eyes reaction with the pills. They are other benefits I read, so I think this is what I will ask the doctor for next time!

(Of course, you should also check with your doctor or pharmacist!)

I have and use both. I use the pills almost exclusively now. The only time I use the patch is if I'm on a boat/ship overnight and the seas are really rough. I like that I can take more or less of the oral medication, depending on how I'm feeling. It has the same side effects (dry mouth, tiredness) but I feel much better on the pills than I do on the patch.

Good news! Thanks! I will request the pills from now on. I always felt a little off with the patch, but not enough to sail without it!

I get very, very motion sick on boats and ships. I used Bonine on my first cruise (Carnival) in 2004 and woke up in the middle of the night sick as can be and swearing I wouldn't cruise again. It was my fault though because I wasn't taking it as often as I should have and it obviously wore off. We decided to do DCL in 2/2005 and booked a midship room with a balcony. I used the patch and it worked great but I did get blurry eyes and a dry mouth. This past May we had a very forward room (4th from front) with a porthole and I used the patch. I had no side effects but got very sea sick the 2nd night out at sea. You could really feel the motion in our room and our bed faced backwards which constantly made me feel ill when I looked out and saw the waves going backwards. I took the patch off and used Bonine the rest of the cruise with no problems. Our next 2 DCL cruises we went back to midship with a balcony and I'm using Bonine.

I just recently went on the Wonder and I had the patch. If you are taking any other meds ask about contraindications. The patch made me kind of "loopy" and I felt actually dizzy, but not motion sickness dizy, if that makes sense. I had no sickness at all. I tried the patch on my Dr. reccomendation because I have an inner ear disease which sometimes makes me dizzy on land! After the 1st patch wore off and it was time for another patch, I used Dramamine. It worked well and I didn't feel so out of it.

Let us know how the pills worked after your criuse.

Thanks for all the answers. I'll give the pills a try. I do worry about them wearing off while I'm asleep or something. I like to stay ahead of the sickness.
