scooters and rain

My parents are joining us this year and have rented scooters....what do you suggest we pack to cover them in case of rain?

Any other "scooter suggestions" are welcome as I have no experience with scooters at Disney.

I always keep clear plastic 30 gallon bags in the pouch of the seat. When it rains, I put one over the tiller (handlebar area). The battery is sealed, so you shouldn't have to worry. Avoid deep puddles.

I also keep a rain poncho with me. I put it on me & drape it over the back of the seat. It keeps the seat area dry as well as keeping me dry.

If you should stall out - you can put it in free wheel mode (handle is near battery pack) & push it to a dry place (like one of the stores).

Generally u just need a shower cap to cover the console on the steering wheel of the scooter.
Some rental agencies like walker have one attached to the handle bar area on the lever that adjusts the angle of the steering column.
U just put the shower cap over it when it rains then the electronics are fine.

I do recommend the poncho too.

Depending on the season. Since your riding in a scooter and not moving as much u get much colder than those around.
It's not really a factor in the summer, but winter months when it's colder. The scooter and wheel chair people are bundled at a different degree.
So if it's raining and cool, you're going to get colder faster than those walking.

Try and seek shelter if you are caught in the rain; go somewhere's fast inside where you can fit with the scooter; don't keep driving.

There are some places where you can park outside where there is protection for a scooter. For example, in EPCOT in World Showcase under the stairs of the Japan restaurants is a great place to park the scooter away from the rain. There are places where you can park inside like in the Land Pavilion in EPCOT. There are more of these places then you realize. We are use to what places to go if rain is upon us.

For counter service eating I would go to places were the scooter can park inside. The hallways as you enter are where you can usually park for a while. For example, Pizzafari in AK has a nice area inside to park, near the restrooms.

We have a tendency to follow weather reports a lot when we have a scooter. When a rainy day is forecasted, we have a tendency to look at the sky a lot. We're looking for gray skies. If it starts getting windy that can be another tip off. Anyway, if it's looking like something can happen we change our plans to somewhere's inside like Innoventions in Epcot.

I know I'm concentrating on EPCOT, but each park has places you can go.

Using these strategies really work.

I was there in August while Isaac was pouring rain on us. The rep from Apple said to just make sure we kept the controls dry since it was the brains of everything. I asked about the down pours and he said that was no problem, the bottom was fine. We made it around AK during the worst of it.

I used a Disney poncho over the entire tiller, the hood part was perfect to cover the basket but still allow access. I just used a rubber band to snug it around the bottom.

We used the disney ponchos and draped them over but a trash bag would have worked fine too.
