Scooter Transport Question

I just got back from hobbling through the worlds on my cane, and am in a lot of pain. The DAS card added to it, because I'd have to hobble somewhere to get it signed for DD and DS, then wait or hobble elsewhere, then double back.

I have only used a scooter once, and it was awful getting it in and out of the rental car. (We use rental cars because our daughter has anxiety issues and can't handle tight crowds a la Disney buses - monorails are slightly easier for her to cope. We try to go "quieter weeks" and off-season to the parks).

How do people transport scooters not using Disney transportation?? I'm stumped.

Portable, travel scooters can come apart. Usually, the scooter will break down to 4 or 5 pieces. You need a car big enough to handle a scooter. Most put the scooter pieces into the trunk. It's not easy getting the scooter in and out of the trunk, but you can do it. For example, we use a Lincoln Town Car. Most of the pieces don't exceed 35 pounds. There are U-tube videos that can show you how this works. You can fit a Pride go-go or a Pride Victory size scooter in a large car. Now, if you need a larger scooter than it becomes more difficult and you may need actual car space to do it.

You do have the option of renting a scooter at the parks if you can make it back and forth from the parks and deal with the resort. You will pay more for a scooter at the parks and you risk not getting one. Usually, if you arrive early at the parks you should not have an issue getting one, but there's no guarantee.

We use a small SUV or Small Van rather than a car. It is easier to lift it up to an SUV rather than up and then down into a car trunk. Gravity helps some when lifting it out of the SUV.

We have 2 scooters when we go to Disney we rent a full size car and put the seats in the back seat of the car this year they upgraded us to a minivan it was much easier just one scooter would have fit in the back we had to put the seats down to hit the two but we will always get a minivan from now on

There were only two of us this year, but I still hired an intermediate SUV for the week (Chevy Captiva). I put the larger 'half' of the rear seat down and the scooter I hired broke down into seat, two batteries (and battery case), rear axle/motor unit and base/tiller/front wheel. I was able to manage all items on my own, but mostly DD (then 20) and I would take a good hold of the front and back bits and do the 'one-two-three-lift' to get the pieces into the back.

I've already hired something similar for next year (but there'll be 3 of us so DD will have to sit in the back next time and cuddle up with it).

I used the monorail a couple of times but it was quiet at the times I used it. The rest of the time we took the resort buses; I was very lucky that we went at a quiet time and I was always the only scooter user waiting.
