Has the food improved here? We went back I march 2004 and the food was just terrible. The atomoshere was really cool but the food wasn't very good. The only thing that was tasty was the milkshake, so I was wondering if there has been some changes there since we would try it again if the food has gotten better.

::MickeyMo We went in May 2004 and May 2005. DBF and I found both times to be very good. Both times we did go for lunch. The first time DBF had the ribs and I had the ham sandwich. Both were very good. Second time I can't remember what DBF had, but I had the open steak sandwich. It was very good, tender and cooked to my preference. The menu has changed somewhat since then. Why not maybe try it for lunch? ::MinnieMo

Well, we went this month and it was a lot worse than last year when it was okay. We had burnt onion rings, a dried out steak sandwich (open faced with nothing on it) really bad chili, and a chicken ceaser salad that my 9 year old would not eat! Turns out they forgot the dressing on it and it was so dark you could see! The chicken was so tough you couldn't even eat it. The only thing good we had were the shakes we got for dessert.

We were there in June and the food wasn't very good. The kids loved sitting in the car for our meal, that's the only thing that keeps me from giving the place a poor rating.

That's when we did go for lunch so I am just wondering if it is a hit and miss thing with all the places to eat. I am not sure if we will then try it again, there are so many other places to eat it seems kind of silly to repeat the not so good ones.

We were there (for lunch) last in June 2004 and really liked it. Looking foward to going back in December!!
Seems to be a love/hate place with the food? Maybe it depends on who is in the kitchen!

I know what you mean here, I can understand the bad reviews, but we just did not have that bad of a meal here.

Maybe there is a differnt chef on some days because when we went in July 05, we ate there for lunch, DH and I both had the open steak sandwich, very good . The onion rings were great too. We have only eaten here once but would go again.

I think that the more you spend, the more you hate this place.

I have always gotten either the chicken salad, chicken sandwich or burger, and never been disappointed, though others in my group have tried the steak sandwich and spent double the price I did, and came out unhappy.

I think when it comes to Sci-fi, it's important to come at lunch and stick to normal" fare, that is hard to mess up (like a chicken sandwich) and save your steaks for other amazing places.

We went in December and had hamburgers and milkshakes, we all enjoyed this place. After spending so much time reading these boards, I have come to the conclusion that just about every restaurant will on occasion turn out a bad meal. For example, everyone seems to love Ohana's. The night we went, no one in our party liked it! Oh well!!!
Getting back to scifi...we really enjoyed what we ordered.

We've been to Sci Fi 5 times since 2001, always go for lunch, always get basics like burgers, fries and shakes, and have never been disappointed in the food. :)

We went October 5 for lunch with a group of 15, and everyone said it was great. My husband had the shrimp pasta and loved it. My BLT soup and ribs were excellent. My daughter had the ham sandwich, and gave me a few bites. It was very good. My son said his burger (which was huge) was kind of bland tasting, but he eats burgers with absolutely nothing on them. I think maybe he just needed a little salt. We will definitely go back!

We went for dinner 9/28. Food wasn’t as bad as people say. How’s that for a recommendation? :teeth: We had burgers (don't think it was on the menu for dinner), a reuben, and one of the salads. Food not bad, but not great. Dad loved his burger..ordered it rare. Reuben was pretty good..bread a little too toasted...DW said her hamburger bread was too toasted as well. Mom liked her salad. Kids had chicken-strips (or nuggets?), and a burger. Kids enjoyed the theme and I'm glad we went...but now that we've tried it, I doubt we'd go back.

Had to wait 35 minutes from 5:45 ressie. Good table/car…kids in front, then us, the my folks in the back. Good waitress. Grade C+

Don't go expecting gourmet food, that's for sure! The only thing that keeps us going back is the atmosphere.

While there in September for lunch I ordered the Chicken Caesar salad and honestly, I think the salads at Chick-Fil-A are better!

I also ordered the Happiest Celebration on Earth Cheesecake. It was alright, but I didn't even eat all of it and it wasn't because I was full!

One son ordered the Shrimp Penne Pasta and it wasn't served as hot as it should've been, but he ate it all. It must not have been too bad! My other son enjoyed his hamburger, and my DH ate all of his Smoked Turkey Sandwich.

The food is not the main attraction here, it is the atmosphere!

I think y'all have convinced me to cancel our plans to eat here.

I would like to go to Sci Fi for the atmosphere but am not sure I want to blow a meal there. Can you go during an off time and just have a milkshake? Is it all seating in cars or is there a bar where you can get a milkshake?

Thanks,
Elizabeth

You can order whatever you want - just remember to tip your server well. We are among the lucky ones who have enjoyed SciFi for lunch several times a year over the past 10 years. But, we order basics: house salad, onion rings and burgers and, of course, a margarita for Mommy :Pinkbounc

Maybe it's Disney's plan to not have good food here. If you combined actual good food and service with the atmosphere, Sci Fi could turn into another CRT breakfast. So they keep the place mostly filled with the atmosphere alone.

Hmmmmm...... :confused3

Well, more likely it would work the other way around -- there could be little reason to invest in improving the restaurant, given that it operates close to what they consider maximum sustainable capacity.

::MickeyMo I don't think you should cancel your plans based on other people's opinions. I think you need to go and form your own since there are people out there who really enjoy it. You could be one of them, but if you cancel, you'll never know. ::MinnieMo
