can anyone give me a review on this place? Do they really play old scary movies? I don't think my 4 year old daughter will like it if they do. How is the food? We have a reservation there but after reading some of the reviews on here I am thinking of cancelling it and going with the 50's diner

No, it's not really scary movies at all. It's campy old sci-fi clips, mostly silly. The food is okay but we eat there purely for the atmosphere, the food alone is not worth it. It is fun to eat in a "car."

Movies are clips from things like Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Them! -- those kinds of silly 50s and 60s black & white horror films. It has never scared my kids even when they were younger. Personally, I don't like it because I think it's too dark in there - part of the theme though!

My kids DS5, DD11, and DGM think this is a must do!!! They love the cars and the camp films. The food is just okay to me, but the milkshakes and onion rings are to die for. The movies are not scary, in fact kind of funny when you think about the technology and special effects. I think your kids would enjoy it.

thanks for the reviews ladies. I am so up in the air between this and the 50's cafe!!!! ugh..descisions...descisions

The Sci Fi setting is so much fun; we've eaten here about a dozen times. But the food is much better at 50's PTC.

We love this place, great burgers and reuben sandwiches and the movies are pretty Sci Fi (hence the name :rotfl:) but we have seen kids of all ages mesmerized by the movies and there is a Tom & Jerry cartoon in there too.

The Sci-Fi is a must do for us. The type of food is about what you'd find at a Fridays or Chili's but a little better. I love their grilled chicken sandwich and onion rings. My DH loves their chili and burger. I think the food is better than 50's but that is probably because the last two out of three times that we've eaten at 50's we've left very unhappy and unsatisfied.

Our kids have been going to Sci-Fi since the oldest was a toddler and he's now 8. :) He's never been scared and he thinks the large syringe they show during one clip is hilarious! (twisted sense of humor) This is one of the few places where the boys will sit completely entranced during a meal watching what is going on.

We can't wait to show our friends Sci-Fi when they go with us in December. :)

I personally didn't really care for Sci-Fi. The eating in the car sounded fun, but my mom was really put-out that she had to sit in front with no one next to her and had to look around at us to talk to anyone during the meal. Oh well, it's part of the theme! It was VERY dark, and the food was just so-so for us. DD's microwave cheese pizza was just gross, but she did eat it.

The movie clips are just that-quick clips. I haven't read of anyone's kids getting scared from the clips. I'm sure your DD would be fine with that!

Now I may be giving a bad review, but I also would say that since I've only been once (AND forgot to sub o-rings for fries, which I meant to do!), take my review with a grain of salt. Before we went we were excited to experience the theming (which is one of the things I LOVE about Disney dining!). It just turned out it wasn't for us. You might be one of the families who LOVES it! It's definitely worth checking out at least once for yourselves. So though I didn't care for it, I say GO! :thumbsup2

We have been going to WDW for years and just "discovered" the Sci-Fi a couple of years ago. It is now a must do on our list. As previously mentioned, the food is OK (we do burgers and milk shakes), but you don't go there for the food. It is all about the atmosphere!

My husband loves this place! We took our daughter back in 2008. She was 4 years old at the time and LOVED the clips. They were not scary at all. We are planning on going back in August 2010!:goodvibes

I went to 50s Primetime and was actually looking forward to the antics that I've heard so much about. I did let my 4 year old know all about it so that she was prepared, but the antics were so minimal that I won't go back based on the antics! The food at 50s was ok. I had the fried chicken and it was a LOT of food. My husband (I forgot what he got) wasn't impressed with his meal at all and didn't want to go back during this trip. We are trying Sci-FI for the first time in January so I can't comment on that.

We ordered dinner, and the food was terrible. Worst I've ever had on property. From what I've heard the milkshakes, burgers and onion rings are the only decent items on the menu. The film clips are really short and played on a loop. You will notice them repeating, which I thought was kind of lame. The cars are really cramped, and it's dark in there. I would say go once and have the experience, some people like it.

The films are played on a 45 minute loop so not a ton of repeats. My kids were 3,4,6 last time we went and they LOVE it. Eating in a car was so cool to them. Got to admit it was teh most peaceful dinner we have had a WDW. The kids are so into the movies and cars and everything they behaved PERFECT. We always plan it for late in the trip when we know a nice quiet dinner would be needed.

PS - My kids love Tom and Jerry so that is a movie highlght for them.

Our family LOVES Sci-Fi, and it is a must-do on every trip! We've been to 50's many times also, and in our opinion, the service and food have gone way down-hill there in the last few years. The spinach and artichoke dip at Sci-Fi is delicious, as are the onion rings...to be honest, I don't know why people say the food isn't very good...we've never had a bad meal there. To each his own, I guess, but you can't beat the theming at Sci-Fi...we love the campy movie clips they show..."I DON'T want to grow anymore!!!" lol

Both the shrimp pasta and the mango glazed tofu were pretty good but not outstanding, about the same quality as you'd expect at Chili's or Applebee's (as opposed to a really nice restaurant). The onion rings were very good and the milkshake was outstanding. Dessert was also very good, DH had the apple crumble and I had the cheesecake with caramel corn and M&Ms, which sounds weird but it really worked well together, I was very impressed with whoever thought that one up.

The movies are of the "used to be considered scary but now just ridiculous" type like Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, mostly they are the trailers from the movie and that's all. There are also ads for silly things and a cartoon, as someone said.

Our waitress was incredibly good, service was timed exactly right and she took some great pictures of us.

It was a really fun experience and we're glad we did it once, but I'm not sure we'd do it again. But we'd happily recommend it to anyone else, or go if we were with someone else who wanted to. (But it may also be that our meal was somewhat marred by the fact that DH's sister had had a life-threatening accident a couple days before and he spent most of the meal trying to get a hold of his parents, who live in the UK ... as does his sister, for that matter.)

Both my kids love this restaurant. Not one of my favorites, although the oreo milkshake is to die for!
The movies really are not scary and the atmosphere is cool.

DH and I LOVE this place!!

The atmosphere is awesome and is not scary at all. It is really fun.

We really like the food, too. We have always had a good meal there and go there on every trip!! We go again in December & have ressies for our 1st night!
