We are in the middle of redoing all our schools. The new high school building may not be ready so those kids may still be in the old high school where they are moving the middle school kids to.
The latest rumor running through town is that the middle and high school kids will need to do split shifts. High Schoolers 7am-1pm and middle school kids 1pm-6pm. DS will be entering 5th grade.
What are working parents suppose to do with their middle school children in the mornings? I can see everyone of them being dropped off at the library!
How are these kids suppose to have after school activities and still get their homework done? Do homework in the morn when there is no adult supervision?

Sounds like you have a school predicament, that's for sure.

When I was in high school, my freshman year we had to attend in split shifts. I went 6:30 am to 11:30 am. I loved it. I had the whole day to do my homework and goof off too :)

But having an 11 year old having to deal with this is another story. I hope they figure something out that takes into account working parents.

Now that summer is over:

Ready or not I am dropping my kids at the front door on August 5th

Will you drop them off in the Ratmobile? Or does the Ratmobile only hold 2 people?

Wow...I can't imagine having to go to school from 1 until 6, if I was still in middle school or ever. It would be too hard to get used to doing my homework for the day in the morning before school- that would just be weird.

The elementary school (Kindergarten to 3rd grade) in my town was closed the entire last year for renovations. Since the middle school (4th grade to 8th grade) could not fit all kids, they set up about 15 trailers in the fields of the middle school instead. Each trailer held two classrooms. Even though no one originally liked the idea of kids in trailers for a year, it worked out just fine.

With these trailers, split sessions were not necessary. :)
